Anyone else tired of fantasy sports buzz words? (1 Viewer)

.....or "he's athletic" when referring to African American player and "he's very smart" when referring to a white player.
No, no, no... white players aren't "very smart", they're "deceptively fast".Seriously, has any black WR ever been described as "deceptively fast"? Of course not. It's just the Eddie McCaffreys and Joe Juriviciouses of the world.
Along those same lines, almost 100% of the time when a TV personality mentions that someone is "articulate," they are referring to a black person. As if it's a huge shock that the black person in question isn't offering up a soundbite which is reminiscent of Leon Spinks. It's a given that ALL white people are articulate, so it's especially important to point out an articulate black man when you can manage to find one.If you think I'm nuts, pay attention to whom they are referring when you hear that word in the future.

I'm Johnny Whitebread, and that stuff pisses me off.....
Agreed. All joking aside about the "deceptively fast" thing, but there really is so much racial stigma in the NFL. Rush Limbaugh goes off on Donnie Mac because he's a black QB, the media goes nuts for Brock Forsey because he's a white RB. I live in Florida and get a lot of Jaguar games, and they're ridiculous. The commentators always feel the need to point out that Byron Leftwich is a great pocket passer- because, of course, all black QBs are supposed to make their living by scrambling- and that Matt Jones is incredibly fast- is he even the fastest WR on his own team? I mean, a 4.4 is great, but there are tons of WRs who beat that, and announcers don't spend all day talking about how fast THEY are...
just to clarify, I believe Limbaugh was trying to make the same point you were, by insinuating that the media was going out its way to puff up McNabb because he's African-American.

You can guarantee when someone is referred to as having a "non-stop motor" they are a white guy.

Has "shark" jumped the shark?
I may be one of the few guys in here old enough to know what that meant!
The actual jumping of the shark might have taken place a long time ago, but the phrase "jump the shark" really only entered into the lexicon within the last 15 years. I've never seen an episode of Happy Days in my life, but I still know what "jump the shark" means and how it got that meaning.
Besides, this is the internet, if you don't know something you can find out in about 30 seconds

1. Most of the terms mentioned here aren't even "fantasy" buzz words so they should not have even been mentioned in this thread (not the topic). I never really heard the terms "Athletic", "smart", "fast", etc. being used for fantasy purposes.

2. Many of the other terms, though overused, are simply quick ways of sayng things that we all understand. Words such as "upside", "sell high", etc. will always be used. Those who mention these kinds of words, what would you replace them with? Whatever word(s) you choose will become the next catch-phrase, so you can't ever escape it.

3. That said, I agree with the original p[oster, its not the words themselves, its how they are used.

4. These are some of the things I wouldn't mind never seeing again, either becuase they are rude, unclear, trendy or or simply existed beyond their shelf life:

"...down?"

:11:

:lmao:

:blackdot:

QB who audibilizes = izes unnecessarily when he audibles

RB who can 'pick his hole' = (a) needs to bathe more often, or (b) has a lot of biatches to choose from

WR with 'great athletic ability' = he can't catch the ball but would do a helluva end zone dance if he ever did catch the ball

PK who 'are a different breed' = (a) weird, or (b) hermaphrodite. I'm hoping for just weird.

'Has raw talent' = headed for NFL Europe, then cut soon thereafter

'Linebacker mentality' = (a) mean and stupid, or (b) Lions GM material, or (c ) all of the above

'Shutdown corner' = plays against QBs of the AFC West

Any player who gives 110% = bad at math
