Anyone have a feeling about Deuce (1 Viewer)

I just acquired him in a trade and in our league we have a rule that if a player retires we can drop them and not have to pay them their exitsting contract and since Deuce is still carrying a very heavy salary I would love to be able to do so. Does anyone know anything on his situation, maybe someone from the Louisiana area hear anything on local radio or news reports? I know he is loved down there and he turned down the $1 million bonus for now......I don't know I think there is a chance he hangs up the cleets.

If anyone could help me ewith this I'd appreciate it.

This is all I could find

Saints, RB McAllister Agree To Delay Bonus

Mike Triplett, New Orleans Times-Picayune - [Full Article]

The New Orleans Saints and tailback Deuce McAllister agreed to push back his $1 million roster bonus from March 15 to April 15, giving the team a better chance to gauge his health before making any financial decisions. McAllister tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans at the Superdome last season. When he had surgery to repair that knee, he also had a microfracture procedure on his right knee to clean up some of the damage left over from when he tore his right ACL in 2005.

don't see why you think he will retire? I highly highly doubt he would file retirement papers this year, if his knee is still really screwed up he will just sit out this year imo...

I don't know anything, but my feeling is that he will come back sometime by mid-season (it will be a PUP decision up to the deadline). However, by then Thomas will own the position in RBBC with Bush, and Deuce will be the backup.

He will be released around April 15th
That's what I think also. I think he is regarded as such a professional and good person in N.O. that he doesn't want to take the $$$ if he isn't healthy enough and once he tries to prove he is healthy he is going to show how injuried he has become. I just can't understand why he agreed to put off that bonus a month ago.

Because, maybe He's fine and wants out?

I have heard very positive comments about his rehab on New Orleans radio as well as personal interview reports in the Jackson newspaper. I think that the delay of the bonus was a joint decision between he and Saints ownership. Some have said that he had to take the delay or get released and that is possible, but I believe that both sides want him to play this year. The Saints offense lost a lot when he was unable to provide the power running game. They finally had some success later in the year with Stecker (till injury) and the last game with Thomas, but that part of the offense was not nearly as effective as in 06 and previous years with a healthy Deuce. My opinion is that he is rehabbing and trying to get prepared to play and when April 15th comes the decision will either be made to pay him the bonus or not or delay it again (if possible). If another delay is possible, I think both sides will agree to it giving Deuce every opportunity to return if possible.

Okay seriously, it took me 3 reads for that to make any sense, and even so I couldn't figure out if you were being sarcastic or serious... proof read jr. Here's my take on McAllister... based off facts, not speculation "maybe he's fine, maybe he's not, maybe he's faking it"- He turns 31 this year, old for a RB- In the past 3 seasons (two as a RBBC), he's only been able to play a total of 23 games- Tore his R ACL in 2005- Tore his L ACL in 2007- He came back from his first ACL and put up some mighty impressive numbers.- It takes roughly 10-12 months (and that's pushing it) to come back from a torn ACL. He tore his in September, it is now 7 months post-injury... - Aaron Stecker filled in very nicely last season, posting 3.9 yards per carry (also his career average ypc)- The Saints AND McAllister pushed back his bonus in an agreement to see where he's at mid-April before making a commitment- He makes a hefty sum this seasonThey've got a fine backup in Stecker, and can even draft a RB on the first day to go RBBC if they want to stick with that system. Bush seemed to do just fine last year... he could have done better, yes, but it was his first time taking the entire load in how long? Now if McAllister is cut, do I think he'll catch on somewhere? I'm sure. A place like DAL might want him behind MBIII, NE might take a shot at him to go with Maroney RBBC... there are some teams out there that could use him. His fantasy value is probably shot. 2 ACL tears in 3 years... that's brutal. He's on the wrong side of 30 in December and there are always a lot of younger RBs flooding the league. He's in the same boat as Ricky Williams, minus the pot and the years off from football... a team will take a fliar on him but soley as a backup or RBBC sort of deal to have him as a change of pace back. Watch where he lands and keep an eye on injury reports because this guy could be valuable if whoever he's running behind is hurt. Now I'll say this- I have NO idea what the Saints' salary cap situation is, so I can't say that he'll most likely be cut. If they can afford to keep him, they just may. If salary is an issue, then you can almost certainly see him being cut.

A couple of things...If he's showing progress in his rehab then the Saints won't cut him. Both parties want him to stay. The last time I checked, the Saints have plenty of cap room. They have a full stable of RBs, so they can afford to wait for his complete recovery. He may indeed be placed on PUP if he's showing that he's less than 100% by the season's start. They know what they have in Thomas and want to develop him. Stecker is on a 1 year contract and will likely retire at season's end. He was pressed into duty last season but isn't capable of shouldering the full-time load. The pressure is on Reggie, though. This is why his offseason training is in NOLA for the first time with the team. The team kind of imploded those first few weeks with all the pressure and expectations. Brees, imo, carried the team last year and was the only reason they could even consider a playoff run after the 0-4 start.

If he is I think he'll sign there for less money.

Good post, but you should also mention that he is recovering from microfracture surgery as well. linkTo answer the original post, retirement is extremely unlikely IMO. It just wouldn't make sense. He has been working very hard on his rehab.

I still say hes released this off-season... Even if he agrees to not get paid the $1M roster bonus; hes still on the books for $3.6M this season.

Deuce is back in NO for this season at least:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AvL6...p&type=lgns

Saints running back Deuce McAllister, coming off the second knee surgery of his career, will remain with New Orleans for at least one more season.

A member of the team with knowledge of the contract negotiations confirmed the agreement to The Associated Press on Monday night. The person did not want to be named because the team hasn’t made an official announcement.

McAllister, who was due a $1 million roster bonus by April 15, worked out the deal that cleared the way for him to remain on the roster. McAllister is traveling out of the country and was not available for comment.

McAllister suffered his second season-ending knee injury in three seasons during the second quarter of the team’s home opener last season. He landed awkwardly after catching a short pass from Drew Brees. Although he walked off the field on his own, the Saints’ all-time leading rusher missed the rest of the season.

Days later, he underwent surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Five games into the 2005 season, McAllister tore his right ACL during a run at Green Bay. After reconstructive surgery, he returned to rush for 1,057 yards in 2006, helping the Saints to the NFC South title and starring in their playoff victory over Philadelphia.

McAllister was drafted by the Saints in the first round in 2001 out of Mississippi. He’s rushed for more than 1,000 yards in four seasons, the first Saints running back to accomplish that.
