Anyone not like Eddie Lacy? (3 Viewers)

I've always heard that 3rd down or change of pace backs tend to have higher YPC. I'm not sure the validity of it, but It makes sense. Defenses are more willing to give up the run in obvious passing situations. I'm not saying that Starks is a bad back, but looking at his YPC and saying that him and Lacy are on equal footing seems like terrible analysis.

I don't think you can just dismiss what he's done this year. He looks slow and his YPC show that. It would be different if Lacy's YPC wasn't very good, but when Lacy is at 5.5YPC and Starks is at 1.8YPC, that's a pretty sizable difference.

Just looking at the last game, Starks was 12/33. Lacy was 11/81. Lacy had 48 more yards on 1 less carry.

I don't think Starks is all that great. Even last season, his YPC was the same as Lacy's. I'm not running out to pick up Starks and I have Lacy on 2 teams.
No one (at least me) is dismissing Starks' performance this year -- had even mentioned it in my post.

But I think your focus on a single game, or just YTD, is a little too myopic and fallible in that it wrongly discounts what Starks has specifically done in relief for Lacy when he was out. If your focus is purely on YPC, a just as compelling argument is that Starks is not much different than Lacy, with only 0.2 YPC difference over the course of their career. That approach has just as much fallacy to it as looking at a single slice of data from the whole -- Starks is no Lacy, never has and never will be.

If I were to reframe this in terms of probabilities, there are a few options going forward:

a) Starks can't hold Lacy's jock at all -- he's looked slow and worthless and can't pick up the slack

b) Starks will show what he showed last year when Lacy was out - he's capable of carrying the full load and be successful doing it

c) somewhere in between

If we were allocating 100% across these options, I put more more probability in b than a -- Starks has proven himself before, and I can forgive him looking slow against the Giants who, aside from their game against the VIkes, have been really stout against the run -- 9th in rushing yards allowed per game, seventh in least fantasy points allowed to opposing RBs, only 3 rushing scores td.

You choose to put more probability in a. I think history (outside this last game) has shown differently.

I think not having Starks as a cuff to Lacy is unwise just because he's the only guy there who can carry the load if Lacy is out for any extended period of time (Ripowski is surely not that guy). If you have other options, great, but I don't think it's a stretch to say that Starks -- even if he is pedestrian compared to Lacy -- is a great snag given his ability to carry the load (and his ability to do it well in the past) if Lacy is out.

At this point I don't even care. Lacy is one of the reasons my dynasty team sucks. I drafted him last year in the second round of our startup draft and he's been a giant turd ever since. First it was a season of his poor conditioning. Now that he's got his body and head back in place, the Packers consistently misuse him.

The best hope is that the Packers don't resign him and he goes somewhere like the Ravens.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Eddie Lacy's ankle injury is "good."

Lacy remained limited in Thursday's practice. "That's what he's telling me," McCarthy said. "Had a good day yesterday, we'll see what he can do today." With James Starks out until at least Saturday with a personal issue and perhaps longer because of a knee injury, the Packers need Lacy to play. It looks like he is trending in that direction. Eddie Lacy (ankle) is unsure of his Week 6 status after getting in limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday.

"It's going to come down to Sunday," Lacy said. "I'm going to do everything in my power to be able to put myself in the best position when it's game time to go out there and play." Despite those words, Lacy was generally positive Thursday. The tea leaves suggest he'll be ready to go, but perhaps we won't know for sure until pre-game warmups. The Packers and Cowboys kick off at 4:25ET.

so which is it?

They did not activate Jackson from the practice squad today which seems odd. Good news for Lacy owners, but worrisome for GB fans. Are they going to go with Montgomery and Cobb as backup rb's?

I've been reading people say Starks may go on IR?

If so, Lacy value goes way up as he'll start catching passes. True bell cow?
Would have to think he will be used quite a bit going forward. this week is a tough call because of the ankle, late kick off, but certainly going forward. This will show us quickly if his conditioning is really up to par. He's going to have to stay in more than usual.

Report I just read stated Lacy is starting and Cobb is the backup.
With Starks out possibly a few weeks...and them not making any roster moves adding another actual RB...must not be all that bad.

With Cobb getting more work in the backfield...I wish I had thought ahead on this (and its hindsight with the results Thursday) and put in Cobb ahead of E.  Sanders.

Other odd questions...how many snaps does Cobb need at RB to get RB eligibility in leagues?  I won't need it...just wondering if he ever gets enough to qualify or what rules are in some of the leagues out there.

So frustrating to own this guy. 1st and goal at the 2, just turn and hand it to the guy. Instead he's not even on the field, McCarthy goes to the spread and calls a qb draw. Might want to hand it to the fat guy with tree trunk legs at some point when inches from the goal line.  Geez.  Gonna have 30 years with Favre and Rodgers and only 2 SB's?  Get a coach in there.

Agree.  Another classic case of coaches trying to get cute.  There are a lot of people saying the packers have something wrong with them and they don't look right.  It's standing on the sideline.  Just makes no sense to game plan the way they do.  Sometimes you just need to do what makes sense and is efficient.  The packers seem to always take the hard road.

Looked like a fat guy wearing spanx today.
He looked pretty damn good for a guy with a gimpy ankle.

Ran with power...hurdled people...nice footwork.

Situation with being down and the ankle limited things...but he still looked pretty good.

Going to be tough with the turnaround to the Thursday game though.

What are people doing with Lacy this week? Short week, gimpy ankle, crap offense.

Lacy looks good this year, but that offense currently doesn't seem to favor RB's at all.

I think I'm gonna go with Tevin Coleman vs SD, but even if I had lesser options I would be tempted to roll with them over Lacy right now.

I owned Lacy for 2 years, no more, and this is why. The situation was and is great, but the execution stinks. It wasn't the fatness or his lack of elusiveness, it was McCarthy, total senselessness. He was OC in NO for the Saints for many years with Aaron Brooks. That's a long time ago now but he wasn't considered a genius or likely SB coach by anyone here.

Hard to say. I didn't think he looked bad last game. But the GB offense is a mess right now.

I don't know if weight is the issue or not. He's been running the ball well this year.

I  have said before the season started and I'll stay say it now, I don't believe Lacy's weight is an issue.  I and several others keep going back to a Jerome Bettis comparison but it's a good comparison.  He is an agile and nimble big guy.  I think he always will be.  He takes on a lot of contact, runs hard and has an incredible spin move.  He is a talented big bodied RB.

I like Lacy, just not on the Packers.

Will be interested to see where he winds up next and gets a real shot at 20+ carries and goal line work each game.

I agree. He's averaging 5.1ypc this season. That's the same as Ezekiel Elliott. However, Lacy is averaging 14 carries per game compared to Elliot's almost 23. Just give him the ball more.

thats pretty bad if you can put on that much weight DURING the season.  For the amount of practicing and working out these guys do he must be eating pretty bad.

Per Schefter, Lacy going on IR:

Packers do not know if RB Eddie Lacy's upcoming ankle surgery will be season ending, but he will be placed on IR today.

RB Eddie Lacy needs foot surgery and Packers will place him on IR today, per source

The ONLY reason he's staying on my dynasty bench is because he'll be a free agent after this year, and there's decent chance he'll take his talent to somewhere that will actually use him.

Droppable in re-draft, right? Earliest he can come back would be Week 15.
Just did...wish this had come out earlier today.  I would have held on to Knile and dropped Lacy for Gillislee to cover if McCoy is out.  Instead I dropped Knile and can't get him back til waivers clear (Says Saturday, but once he plays tonight plus Jackson, Id be in a weird spot to be able to do so).

Ended up dropping Lacy for Jackson as a speculative add tonight.  Being the Packer fan in this league...perhaps the others will be dumb enough to think I have some inside scoop and won't touch Davis.

Wow - that's crazy - cracked bone requiring surgery is what they just sayin on NFL network.

Knile Davis should be the man at some point. Kinda kicking myself for not spending my waiver claim on him.

was holding out hope for a high ankle sprain, 4-week timetable.  News of Andrews, surgery and now IR with Minny on week 16, makes him useless in redrafts IMO.  Fortunately I was just able to drop him for Gillislee!

So I got an awkward question about Lacy for every one of you guys that play at Yahoo.

I got that owner (who I already got a couple "team management" issues with) who claims that the reason why he got Lacy in his starting lineup yesterday was because there was no injury notification on his team page (besides Lacy's name) yesterday morning that would've led him to think that Big Eddie wouldn't play.

At Rotoworld they had him officially Out for the game Wednesday around 4p EST....

Can anyone tell me if Lacy was also ruled out at Yahoo yesterday morning?

Thanks from a desperate Commish...!

I play in a yahoo league and I believe that Lacy was listed as either being out or doubtful. With that being said--I don't think that matters at all in regards to your situation.   It's up to every owner to manage their own teams and to check/double check the status of their players.    It's not your job as a commish to baby sit owners and act as a safety net when they don't do their due diligence.

This is exactly right. You could basically put what is in bold in an emailed response to the owner in question.

Well, thing is, he's not the one complaining. It's the other members, who are kinda tired he doesn't get his things straight like everyone else...

His career could be over...   I know his numbers were better this year,  but watching the games he is like a poor man's Blount in reality.  His weight is reportedly back up to 265 again.   Sure he breaks tackles,  but he is soo slow that he can't avoid contact.  He is agile for a big guy but...  Not good.   He also isn't versatile enough to make GBs offense less predictable.

If you can get anything for him in Dynasty I would probably take it.  I can't see Thompson bringing him back and I don't think he makes it through another training camp if he has to earn his role in a competition.
