Anyone notice this on the onsides kick last night? (1 Viewer)

Whitner better be running stadiums for just lackadasically (sp?) strolling toward the ball allowing the cowboys to recover.

My hat goes off to the ST coach in Dallas. It seems as though the DAL guy intentionally kinda head-butted the ball forward instead of trying to make the catch directly. When you think about it, since the ST team that is kicking the ball is already running in the same direction as the ball once it is kicked, it makes sense. For the defense to recover the ball, it means that they have to change directions 180 degrees. If it was intentional, it was brilliant.

Absolutely brutal. That was the first thing I noticed, but didn't realize it was Whitner. What a pathetic excuse for an effort.

Can't be worse than Roy Williams' effort after the Newman INT. When Jay Ratliff outruns you, blocking down the field and recovering a fumble, as you loaf down the sideline watching all of this happen...

Why did the Bills allow those 2 short completions at the sidelines? With 13 seconds and 0 timeouts the Bills probably should've defended that a little better.

Early in the game Roy Williams hurt his shoulder/bicep or something, It effected his play.

Jay Ratliff = speed

I saw it too, but im pretty sure it wasn't due to lack of effort. I thought it was more out of confusion since he, and myself, initially didnt think the ball went 10 yards before the Cowboy player head butted it, therefore the play would be dead automatically. I can't think of any other reason, since Whitner is one of those guys who seems to be giving 100% effort all the time.

Nope.It was Sam Hurd, and he dove for the ball and had it in his hands about 10.1 yards after the catch, but he couldn't hold on. Not intentional, but definitely a nice play by Hurd, and nice hustle by the Cowboy who got to the ball, and indeed a horrible effort by the nearby Bill (I guess Whitner) who didn't even try to get in the Cowboy's way.

Pretty sure it wasn't intentional. It looked like he tried to grab the ball, deflected it back towards himself, and had it ricochet off of his helmet- meaning he was actually knocking it back towards him, it just took a lucky bounce. Also, intentionally knocking the ball downfield isn't without its own problems. For instance, it looked like Buffalo had a couple of other players behind the initial line of defense so you'd just be knocking it into their arms (I suspect that's designed to counter just such a tactic, although it didn't work this time).

Anyone else notice that play where Roy Williams went for his trademark horse-collar tackle but his hand slipped off? He should have been flagged and he should be fined for that too, since he tried to do it. Why does that guy continue to do it week after week? Who is the loser that taught the guy how to play football, that this particular technique is now hard-coded into his brain?

Ok, I did see that and noticed it. I think you're being a bit too hard on him given how quickly that ball changed direction. His best play would have been to hit and fall on Witten to prevent him from recovering it, but that would have meant that he had a perfect reaction in a split second to a very quickly changing play. Witten had the advantage of already moving in the direction of the ball anyway.

You're right, it doesn't look too badly in this highlight. The angle from down on the field made Whitner's effort look much, much worse.

After watching the clip, maybe it's not as bad as I seemed, but he definitely should have tried to dive onto the ball

That's my reaction. He's sort of playing safety back there, holding to a position. The ball darts right past him, and he's forced to turn around and generate speed to go after it...which he does. I just don't think he was fast enough, but it didn't look to me like he was loafing around at all.
