Anyone worried about Braylon's foot? (1 Viewer)

Granted, this is from CBS sportsline, but, still... if he were to miss 1 game because this gash is deep, who's to say it won't reopen on any contact. Why oh why didn't you put the cleats on dude. :goodposting:

Braylon Edwards, WR CLE

News: Braylon Edwards offered no guarantee he will recover from his lacerated heel in time to play against the Cowboys in the season opener Sept. 7, reports the Ohio News Herald. Edwards was spiked on the back of his right heel by teammate Donte Stallworth on Aug. 9 while running sprints. Edwards was not wearing shoes. He has not practiced since the injury and has been instructed to stay off his feet. Asked if he'll be ready for the Cowboys, Edwards said, "Hopefully. That is the goal." Coach Romeo Crennel did not sound like Edwards will be back soon, either. Edwards definitely will not play against the Lions on Saturday and it is unlikely he will play against the Bears in the final preseason game. "We're trying to keep Braylon off his feet so he doesn't reopen that wound," Crennel said. "The wound is healing, but we're going to be a little cautious because at his position where he runs and cuts, the thing that we don't want to happen is we don't want him to break it open. He'd have to miss more time if it gets to that point."

What is the normal amt of healing time needed for something like this? I thought hands and feet healed quickly??

he's going to be fine, that's why he's not playing saturday so it doesn't reopen.

and yes, if he gets a staph infection, i'm going to completely lose it.

Depends on the nature of the laceration -- how deep, injury to other structures, location, etc. Skin sutures can come out anywhere between 10-14 days in most cases, but the tissue underneath takes another week or so to strengthen. His injury happened on August 10th, so there shouldn't be any issue with him returning to play in Week 1 unless the media reports about the injury being nothing more than a cut were incorrect. That assumes no complications of course -- re-opening of the laceration before healing, infection, etc.

I drafted BE but would not mind if he sits out W1 against my Pokes. I have a pretty decent group of WRs and would rather have him for the duration of the year.

Thanks Jene.FBG have BE and Fitz virtually even...could be the issue that tilts in LF favor.

I don't understand. Cuts, even ones involving stiches, don't take too long heal. This cut must have been really deep for him to be out until Sept. 7.

there's no rush so why hurry?also i believe it was more on the side/bottom of the heel, so running on it would definitely cause it to heal more slowly. therefore, no running for several weeks at all to let it completely heal.

I understand that there's no rush but the injury happened on Aug. 10. Sept. 7 is almost a whole month away. 1 month should be sufficient time for a cut to heal....even one on the foot.

I'm not worried. To me this reeks of a case of "I don't really want to practice or play in the preseason"
while that's certainly possible, it was a pretty good cut by everything i've read. Cribbs actually wrapped his shirt around Edwards foot to stop the bleeding when it happened.and if you've ever seen a pratice or preseason game, Braylon is one of those guys, like Winslow, that go hard all the time.

aww damn...I have to turn in my keepers today and I have to keep a WR. Its between Braylon, Housh, and Colston....I was going to keep Braylon...this shouldnt change that right?

C'mon, guys.....this is a hangnail of an injury for a football player. If the games mattered they'd stitch up a cut at halftime and play on. Much ado about nothing.

I'd be more worried about Derrick Anderson's health for Braylon's sake..if DA doesn't play well ( if at all) this season, you're stuck with Brady 'first time starter' Quinn against a b-r-u-t-a-l schedule. :DI hope for your sake, DA is ready to roll come opening day..I'm not a fan of the Brownies this season, but you'll need DA to get good numbers out of Braylon, IMO..

Somebody let the Browns know it's OK to rest him for week 1!

The Cowboys are good enough they don't need BE or any of the Brownies hurt.
We don't want him hurt. We want him to rest.Big difference and classier wouldn't you say. :goodposting:

This is the key here - location.Had there been a worse cut anywhere else on his body, no concern - not nearly the level of risk of reopening the wound upon return since you wouldnt be pounding on it with EVERY step, stretching the skin and doing potential harm, and the fact is it doesnt affect you to have a slash on your arm hurting some as compared with the pain and effects of having to run on a cut with every step. When I get a small injury to my foot it is usually far more debilatiting (sp?) than a far worse injury to another part of the body.

I don't believe it's significant long-term...but if it doesn't heal correctly, the Browns won't risk extended the recovery period by playing him. That could cost him a game, which considering how closely lumped I have some WR grouped together...could knock BE down 2-3 places in the rankings.

Based on the Browns' medical history, I would expect his foot to be amputated within a few weeks to prevent the spread of an infection.

Well, the positive thing if they amputate is that he won't have to remember to wear cleats during practices anymore.
