Application for Message Board team (1 Viewer)

If you need a replacement let me know.

I've had the pleasure of playing against "experts" in FFWebmasters. I got to play against TC, Kellogg, Houston, Kadlec, Bouyelas(Doc), Grey, Simon, Nazarek, Quintong, Pappano......and I had always wanted to match wits with those guys, it was a real treat. I'm applying as a replacement because I don't want to cheat someone out of a similar pleasure with this league. (If I was accepted, of course) It was a rush for me and .....if only we all had a chance to play against "experts". However, when someone doesn't show up in a chat room on draft day it can make a whole wonderful experience turn sour. If you landed the first available guy, he could stink and throw your whole team out of whack.

I'd put my FF record up against anyone. I've played in 33 redraft leagues over the last 14-15 years and won 28 of them. Only twice did I not make the championship game. In FFWebmasters, played two years, made the championship both times. (Both at MFL if you want to check)

If you guys usually look to Joe and David and co for advice and will understandably be skittish on this day, you can PM me. I'll help all I can.

My friend that worked with me on my site, got invited to play in Xperts League and had the best regular season record ever with just two losses. Got a link here but it's messed up somehow it's only at week 10. http://www.fantasycraze.com/modules.php?na...=showpage&pid=9

Anyhow, I'm hopeful his success means I can give some good advice.

I spend alot of time around here, as much or more than most of you. Just like you guys, I enjoy this board tons and respect the staff of FBGs tons so anything I can do to help, you let me know. Otherwise, I'll be rooting for ya

Mike,Congrats on your selection as captain. I've read several of the posts and I am certainly impressed (shocked?) by the level of education, etc. of some of the applicants. I'm not going to try and impress you with my resume (masters degree, years of fantasy experience, winning my local league x times, etc.), but I will try to appeal to you via how you know me in the Greek Leagues. I am one of your most avid players, maybe the most avid. I have played in the Greek Leagues the past 2 years with multiple (6-8 teams) each year. This past year I competed under the team names of Artic Freeze, Seadogs, Tackling Dummies, Hokies, Mighty Ducks, Red Raiders, and Mustangs. My success spoke for itself by finishing in the money in over half the leagues, winning one (championship), one regular season, 2 points totals, and a couple 2nd and 3rd places. Finishing in the money in these type of leagues is not easy as you know so I trust you'll remember my track record. I also enjoyed the running commentary during your drafts where I would often try to help you move things along with some well placed comments aimed at "indecisive" drafters.I have also excelled at nationwide contests, particularly salary cap games from CDMSports and Wall2Wall. My criteria is to make money so I will always invest enough time and effort to acheive success. I have always made money in these games and have come very close to winning the contests a couple times (top 5 nationally out of several thousand teams). My draft strategy can be described as a "highly adaptive selection process" based on my pre-draft homework and the progress of the draft. As you might recall from the Greek Leagues I love to trade draft picks (or players) and in many cases I prefer this to test my adaptive abilities during the draft. Adjusting to the changing environment is what I like most about a draft or auction.Hope we will join forces on this team, but in any event I am looking forward to the phenoms leagues this year.John

With so many quality candidates and so many words having already been written I will use my words sparingly. 1. I don't believe in VBD and much of the other statistical gimmickry and overkill advocated by so many at this site. 2. I live and breathe Football, Sunday NFL Ticket, high-speed Internet access, self-employed, hate to lose at anything type. 3. Have been making FF owners cry since 98. For instance, joined UFFP 2 years ago, advanced both years and now poised to win title in 1st year of eligibility. 4. I know what’s most important, who is good and who isn't! 5. I take my RB's early and often and my QB's late. 6. I am 1 lucky SOB. 7. I am FBG's worst nightmare,,, why? See #'s 1 & 2. 8. I have read the rules. 9. I'm rested and I'm ready.10. Lets light this candle :HellToup

The long awaited moment that all the FBGs feared has come. ffweasel is submitting his application to become a part of the MB Survivor Team

Experience:

The two larger leagues I participate in...

NGFFL - Halas:

This is a keeper league that has/had notables such as FBG Ken Maxwell, FBG David Shick, Terry T.C. Cannon, Greg Kellogg, and our message board's own Switz. I am not counting Magnificent ******* as he doesn't exactly have the greatest reputation around here. Not only have I dominated the FBG's by making it to the championship game the past 3 seasons (winning 2), but have led the league in scoring those 3 years as well.

NERFF:

This is an IDP dynasty league that has/had notables such as FBG Clayton Gray, Terry T.C. Cannon, and Brian Hulett. Not to mention the several other excellent coaches that may not have the name recognition. A very challenging league with a starting requirement of 1QB 2RB 3WR 1TE 1PK 3DL 4LB 4DB. I have not dominated this league, but have been near the top in scoring average the last couple of seasons. Been in the championship game 2 out of the last 3, losing both of them.

Drafting Theory:

Not totally dissimilar to standard drafts, I like to acquire my RB1 straight out of the gate. This of course is dependant on the scoring and draft position. If I were to be in a 16 team league and drafting near the tail end, I may pick up a Randy Moss. More than likely though I'd take a RB and grab my RB2 after the turn. I am more of a stud RB theorist if you had to place a label on me. The rest of the draft consists of taking players where I think they have the most value to my squad. I am very mindful of trends and usually avoid the positional runs. The trick is to stick to your gameplan.

Rankings Preparation:

Once again, not too dissimilar to standard drafts. It always is dependant on scoring rules and starting requirements. Obviously in this particular league they will take the highest scoring players only so making the decision on whom to start is not necessary. With the bonus points for receptions it would skew things more toward the pass-catching RBs (dual threats) and the top few TEs (which receive 2 per Catch). Without getting into specifics, I do a fair amount of projections looking at past history and present day changes that may affect a players performance. I then rank them by position. I rely on my own gut instincts as to when I should draft a particular position and do not use VBD to any great extent. My instincts are usually on the mark.

Writing Skills:

2003 FBG Blogger Survivor Draft (1st 4 picks. Rest are available upon request)

FAD Guest Writeup 1

FAD Guest Writeup 2

FAD Guest Writeup 3

I have written for KFFL.com (3 years ago), but was unable to locate a sample for viewing.

Final Pitch:

I love this game. I have been involved with Fantasy Football for about 11 years or so. In that time I have played against some of the more recognizable names in this sport. Not only have I played against them, but I have consistently performed better. I have been a Blogger Reporter going on my second year and have been visiting this site since it's inception as cheatsheets.net a few years ago. As a matter of fact I was the first non-FBG to sign up for the old yellow board (Member #4). I have no fear of competing against FBGs. I am a free-thinker and draft by gut and instinct. Of course I sprinkle in my own projections and rankings etc.. I am confident I would not let this Message Board down. Now I am sure that the FBGs don't fear me, they are more than likely saying, "ffweasel who?". Give me the chance to let them know who I am. You won't regret it! They may.
