There's not a lot of interest in him as an under-sized OLB, but in the 3-4 he's the right size for ILB. It also wouldn't hurt to bring in a guy who just won a SB ring.

I think AJ is pretty set on using Wilhelm and Cooper with Dobbins as a backup. They will be looking for more depth in the draft, but I don't think they are looking for starters. I suppose if June came at a good price they could make the fit though.

227 pounds, despite the success of a smaller player like Donnie Edwards, is not the ideal size for any ILB, certainly not a 3-4 ILB. June has easily been blocked by crappy WRs like Reggie Williams in recent seasons and would get killed by interior lineman. June's only fit is as a WLB on a team that can keep him free to pursue on most plays. IMO, it's not surprising that he hasn't seen much interest yet, even in a league not afraid to overpay for mediocrity and questionable fits -- see Kevin Carter, Derrick Dockery, etc.The Chargers have three solid ILB prospects they've already invested in -- they don't need LB help, they need safety help.

I'm mainly looking at him coming in for cheap since there's not much interest. June obviously isn't worth breaking the bank for but I don't like the idea of Wilhelm replacing Edwards, but maybe I'm wrong about his ability as a starter. June isn't much smaller than Cooper either (235 vs. 227) and while it's better to have bigger ILB's I don't think it's necessary in the 3-4 if you have a guy who tackles well.

It's true that ILBs and MLBs are getting smaller and quicker. Those guys need elite leverage/strength or must be quick and instinctive enough to elude bigger blockers at the point of attack. June didn't consistently do any of those things as an OLB against smaller blockers. Cooper isn't a stud in those areas either but he's shown big improvements as an all-around ILB over the past two seasons.I'm not sold on Wilhelm either BTW but he's been okay in limited time.
