I thought all Yankee fan's were frontrunners.
I moved from Jersey when I was 10 months to FL. My father is a lifetime Yankees fan. I've been to Yankee Stadium around 10 times. Before the Marlins, the Heat and the Panthers, Jai Alai used to make the front page of the sports section in South Florida papers during the football offseason.I don't consider myself a frontrunner. They pretty much sucked when I was young. The Mets were much better.I have a friend who moved to Fla when he was 3, but his dad and brothers are such big Yankees fan from living up here, he is a fan. He's never been to Yankees Stadium, but he goes to Legends Field quite a bit.
Hey what do I know, I'm a Cub fanI thought all Yankee fan's were frontrunners. There are a few of us on here who were raised with Yankees Baseball through their darkest hour (late 60's/Early 70's & Late 80's/Early 90's).

Yes, and it's quite pathetic. ... and their uncle made them a Duke basketball fan, sister-in-law made them a 49ers fan in the 80's while their cousin made them a Cowboy's fan in the early 90's. Then there was their childhood friend, whose father was friends with a security gaurd at the United Center who convinced them to be a Bulls fan during the Jordan era.
And those are the only ones I have respect for.ThisGuy said:Wrigley said:I thought all Yankee fan's were frontrunners. There are a few of us on here who were raised with Yankees Baseball through their darkest hour (late 60's/Early 70's & Late 80's/Early 90's).

What about the old man who grew up idolizing Mickey mantle? Or the kids like my son who idolizes Derek Jeter? You can't blame a person because they grew up around here while the Yanks were winning. And those are the only ones I have respect for.ThisGuy said:Wrigley said:I thought all Yankee fan's were frontrunners. There are a few of us on here who were raised with Yankees Baseball through their darkest hour (late 60's/Early 70's & Late 80's/Early 90's).
As long as they stick with them through the bad times. What about the old man who grew up idolizing Mickey mantle? Or the kids like my son who idolizes Derek Jeter? But for you Yankees fans, don't you feel at least a little bad knowing that you can get practically any free agent out there knowing that his price won't be too high (in most cases)?
But for you Yankees fans, don't you feel at least a little bad knowing that you can get practically any free agent out there knowing that his price won't be too high (in most cases)?Ummm why would we feel bad about that?
I feel lucky to be a Yankees fan. Steinbrenner is dedicated to winning (although some of his moves might hurt more than they help). You gotta love that. But for you Yankees fans, don't you feel at least a little bad knowing that you can get practically any free agent out there knowing that his price won't be too high (in most cases)?
Better question...True Yankee's fans, do you feel bad that because of all the people around the country that have jumped on the bandwagon, being a fan of your own team is deminished?shadyridr said:eoMMan said:But for you Yankees fans, don't you feel at least a little bad knowing that you can get practically any free agent out there knowing that his price won't be too high (in most cases)?Ummm why would we feel bad about that?
I don't let that bother me. I find it funny because those punks wouldn't last 10 minutes here. What does bother me is the affect HipHop/Prison culture has on today's youth. As for bandwagoners, it happens. No matter the sport, the team that is currently winning is the most popular.Better question...True Yankee's fans, do you feel bad that because of all the people around the country that have jumped on the bandwagon, being a fan of your own team is deminished?shadyridr said:eoMMan said:But for you Yankees fans, don't you feel at least a little bad knowing that you can get practically any free agent out there knowing that his price won't be too high (in most cases)?Ummm why would we feel bad about that?
Yankee's apperal has become as much of a fashion statement as it is support for your team. Rappers, wanna be gangsters, and bandwagon riding #####es all over the country make a mockery of being a Yankee fan in my mind.
Nothing pisses me off more than seeing a 13yo kid in Baltimore walking around in baggy jeans, a XXXXXXL white t-shirt and a crooked Yankee's hat.
That's just it. Haven't seen a Cardinals hat, White Sox shirt, Angels or Diamondbacks anything over the past years. Locally or on TV. And not to take a low blow, because I know the Yankee's continue to have positive win seasons and a winning tradition, but I wouldn't say they are currently winning.I don't let that bother me. Then they are definitely frontrunners for a non-winning team. That settles it.And not to take a low blow, because I know the Yankee's continue to have positive win seasons and a winning tradition, but I wouldn't say they are currently winning.
I honestly dont give a #### what anybody else doesBetter question...True Yankee's fans, do you feel bad that because of all the people around the country that have jumped on the bandwagon, being a fan of your own team is deminished?shadyridr said:eoMMan said:But for you Yankees fans, don't you feel at least a little bad knowing that you can get practically any free agent out there knowing that his price won't be too high (in most cases)?Ummm why would we feel bad about that?

No. Just like you hate putting up with idiot Yankees fans you come across, so do I. I don't see why that should affect my rooting for the team. A weird analogy, but it's like asking someone who is religious if their faith is compromised by the actions of some of those in their religion. You'll be hard pressed to find someone who says it affects them.Better question...True Yankee's fans, do you feel bad that because of all the people around the country that have jumped on the bandwagon, being a fan of your own team is deminished?shadyridr said:eoMMan said:But for you Yankees fans, don't you feel at least a little bad knowing that you can get practically any free agent out there knowing that his price won't be too high (in most cases)?Ummm why would we feel bad about that?
I am a traditionalist. I have, in my life, only owned 1 Yankees hat that wasn't navy with a white NY logo, and that was when I was younger. What you have to understand is that NY has just as much cache as the Yankees, so when Puff Daddy wears a red Yankees hat, it's almost like he's just wearing a red New York hat. Similarly, many passive "fans" in or from Boston and/or Chicago will wear Red Sox or Cubs hats, not because they are diehard fans, but because for them it represents the city.Yankee's apperal has become as much of a fashion statement as it is support for your team. Rappers, wanna be gangsters, and bandwagon riding #####es all over the country make a mockery of being a Yankee fan in my mind.
A lot of famous rappers are from NYC. They're emulating that. Those kids want to be Jay-Z. When I asked a friend why anyone would wear a red Yankees hat, he said "Who would kids rather look like, Puff Daddy or Lou Gehrig?"Baltimore just needs to step it up in the rap game, and you'll get more Orioles hats on wannabe thugs.Nothing pisses me off more than seeing a 13yo kid in Baltimore walking around in baggy jeans, a XXXXXXL white t-shirt and a crooked Yankee's hat.
Where are you from, Utica? It's more of an Albany thing.I'm pretty versed in pop culture terms, particularly the sports kind, but I've never seen "frontrunner" used as common nomenclature for what I tend to call "bandwagon fans." Maybe that's not a Northeast term?

NOTHING pisses me off more than those damn Ruth/Gehrig bandwagoners. They piss me off SOOOOO much! Also, I'm a lifelong Yankee fan, third generation I suppose, as my grandfather was a fan and frequent attendee of games during the Gehrig/Ruth years. (Perhaps he was a bandwagon fan then?)Poseur fans don't bother me much.
