Are you buying the high-flying Falcons? (1 Viewer)

This team now has Harry Douglas, Julio Jones, Jaquizz Rodgers and just threw 42 times in the first half last night (3rd preseason game).

Was this just trying to get a 'full game' in for Matt Ryan with his new weapons (in his one half of play)? Or has this team really switched philosophies?

The falcon running game is a known quantity, but the receiving corp is different this year, and since it was preseason it is the best time to practice a lot of various pass plays. I'm not reading anything into it.

It was only a matter of time before Turner started his decline & Ryan took over to become an elite fantasy QB. Unfortunately many FF guys weren't patient enough to wait on him. And lead to a bargain last offseason for people like me. So I thank you folks.

For 2011, no more having to force feed guys that can't get open consistently (Jenkins/Gonzalez). I think 2012 is the year that Ryan enters the Top 5 QB's.

Quizz may not be fantasy relevant this year, but I fully expect him to have a huge impact on the Falcons out of the backfield.

:goodposting: They certainly won't pass that much in the regular season but this is a team clearly shifting to the pass. Turner is falling off a bit and the defense isn't good enough to grind out low scoring affairs.

This. To a certain extent. There's no doubt this team wants to air it out more this year in line with the natural progression in skill and confidence that Matt Ryan is experiencing as a QB. That they now have Julio Jones/Harry Douglass instead of Michael Jenkins/Brian Finneran is an obvious indication that they will air it out more this year. Just heard the local radio guys talking about this. The Falcons were out of sync and they decided to go now huddle/speed up the pace. Since it was working they kind apparently kept using it. But this isn't gonna be like the run 'n' shoot days. With Mughelli at FB, and turner/quizz in the backfield, this team will also do it's fair share of running. But wow do douglass and jones look great. Jones is as good as advertised, and Douglass seems to have that fifth gear, whereas last year it seemed like he only had 3.5 gears. Guess that's what we always say about the second year after a major knee ligament tear, but this offense is gonna put up some points this year in bunches.

I disagree. I don't think Turner is anywhere near done. He had low mileage coming in, and has had a few heavy load seasons. But he isn't going to be relied on to carry the rock as much as in the past. Between quizz and snelling he'll have a more manageable workload. But I don't think the's any doubt that Turner is gonna get the GL work. That and this defense should be better too. A lot of 1st and 2nd year players starting, so it might take a lil more than the abbreviated preseason to fully el, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this D sniff the top 10, but more likely be in the 10-15 range, but with definitely startable weeks against the panthers at the very least.

FWIW NFLN is replaying the game at 4:00. I missed the most 1st half (golfing) and heard the last 6 minutes on the half on the radio. So I am going off what I've heard so far.

The first three weeks they play pretty stout defenses (Chicago, Philly, TB, Green Bay week 5). The Falcon's passing attack will be a good test for the Eagles secondary. After week 5, they play some real suspect D's.

You can't fight the clock - Turner is 29 (turns 30 in February) and coming off the lowest YPC of his career. Not saying he's done - should have a couple good years left in him - but the end is near.

Should wait to pat himself on the back until after the season has actually played.

Bad matchup this week, so I'm holding judgement. Bears can make even the Packers passing game look pedestrian.
