@BeTheMatch has been on top of this.

This seems too important not to be discussed.

I have faith we can stay on track on not getting too finger pointy politically.

Please share info as you hear it.

The state senator who survived was shot 8 times. His wife, who also survived, was shot 9 times. She apparently laid on top of their daughter to protect her and keep her from being shot.

Developing in last half hour is that the shooter's vehicle has been found abandoned on the side of a rural highway in the same general area of his house that police have been at since yesterday morning. The cowboy hat was laying on road too.

Seems weird that he's still in Minnesota and would go back towards his house when he has to know they know who he is. Now they're starting to search house to house in that area. But very rural farm country. Houses will be very spread out. Almost wonder if that's a decoy to get them to waste time there while he goes somewhere else.

Starting to wonder if he's getting help.
No real update so far this afternoon. Multiple swat teams and K9 units searching area where car was found.

Again, it's a large rural/farming area with plenty of woods. Will take forever to cover ground out there.

For frame of reference, not that anyone cares, the area they are searching now is about 40 minutes west of me. Well outside the suburbs of Minneapolis, but not really that far. It just quickly turns rural out here in that direction.
Does law enforcement have the folks that live out there on lock-down?

Not on official lockdown, but have urged people to stay inside with doors locked.

Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman was shot and killed at her Brooklyn Park home early Saturday morning, according to a report from the Hennepin County medical examiner. Her husband Mark was shot at the home and died at the hospital. State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were shot and wounded roughly 5 miles away at their home in Champlin.
Short story is that psycho dude impersonated a police officer to gain entry into their homes early morning on Saturday (around 2:00 AM), including a patrol car looking vehicle.

He had a hit list of about 60 people and apparently left some sort of manifesto.

Hortman was a recent speaker of the house in MN.

Local news is reporting that law enforcement sources have confirmed that the hit list included every Democrat in the state legislature - the party in Minnesota is known as the DFL - as well as both US senators, the lieutenant governor and governor.

And at least one US Representative.

What confuses the issue is that he was appointed to a as a private sector representative to the Minnesota Governor's Workforce Development Council by former Gov. Mark Dayton. He served until 2019, when he was appointed by Gov. Tim Walz as a business member on the Governor's Workforce Development Board.

(I'm just saying that HIS politics appear a bit confused.)

No they don’t. But there’s an information ecosystem certainly trying to make it seem that way by pointing to the workforce commission appointment as opposed to the literally everything else known about the suspect.
Okay. I'm really saying that there will really be no way to make sense of this guy's nonsense.

In that light, I shouldn't have even posted that part. My bad.

Speculation and questions from me:

1. It seems highly unlikely that the shooter would have stashed a backup vehicle within walking distance of the site of the second shooting where he had a shootout with police. No way he was expecting to be stopped there.

2. He fled the area on foot. And then was seen in Minneapolis not that long after. That is not walking distance at all.

3. Then later that same day/night, he's all the way back in the area they are searching now in another one of his vehicles.

So that really, to me, seems to leave only a few reasonable possibilities:

1. He stole a car and then drove to where his other vehicle was. But where's the stolen car? And, ok, maybe he had another car stashed near his rental apartment in Minneapolis, but why go get that car? And then why go back near his house and abandon that car?

2. Someone else was actively involved from the start, knew what he was doing and is still helping him.

3. He reached out to someone after the shootings and convinced them to come pick him up and get him out of area and to his other car. But then why has he abandoned car?

4. Someone else drove his other vehicle to where it was abandoned (along with the infamous cowboy hat) to throw the police off his trail.

I would be stunned at this point if it doesn't turn out that someone else is involved.

I really wonder how they found this vehicle too. It's in the middle of nowhere on some side road blocked by a bunch of trees on one side. There would be virtually no traffic there. Maybe they had deputies driving around looking since it was somewhat close to his house. But it's still a huge area. No idea, and so far I haven't heard any reporting on how they were alerted to it.

One nugget now on this. The police apparently knew he was using this Buick at some point yesterday and had issued a BOLO for the vehicle. A neighbor says the car wasn't there at 2 am last night when someone in his house came home, but then they saw it there at 7 am when they got up this morning.

Now getting more details. He went to his rental house in Minneapolis at 6 am, a few hours after the shootings. He changed clothes and left right away in the Buick. The surveillance photo is him at a bank withdrawing cash from a cash machine.

Update: I'm wrong on this. Local news saying he could have walked to his house in Minneapolis. It was closer than I thought, and that's the prevailing theory now. That he walked, and it took him about three hours to do so.

My guess is that he’s been dead not long after the shooting. He just hasn’t been found yet. He never planned to be taken alive for this IMO.

Let's please keep this mostly to the facts and links to stories. That works great in the other threads. People have been murdered. I know nobody is doing that here, but this isn't a fun murder mystery. Let's please keep it to mostly facts and links.

Forget politics I seriously have no clue why anyone would ever be so invested in anything to have a manifesto and murder list. Religion, politics, sports, sexuality - anything. What the **** is wrong with people when they can’t let other people live their lives?

Well usually mental illness

The guy is 57. Any reports about it in his past?

Nothing of too much significance from the press conference. Don't know where he is. Don't know how he's getting around. No indication he's receiving assistance from anyone else.

The family members that were pulled over and interviewed cooperated and were not detained or arrested.

And it's not a manifesto. It's mostly just a list of people and places he was targeting and "some other thoughts."

Didn't say. Social media is a cesspool.

news reports have focused on his apparent work as a security professional. But NPR's review of Boelter's online records and employment history found many of those claims about his professional life appear untrue. In social media posts and websites, Boelter said he had extensive experience as a security professional with "training by both private security firms and by people in the U.S. Military." NPR found little evidence to support Boelter's account. He appears to have worked most of his career in the food service industry and one long-time friend described parts of Boelter's narrative about his life as "fantasy."

Another potential hit list: Police found what they believe is another possible hit list with more than a dozen potential targets following a Saturday search of a home associated with the suspect, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation. The suspect had left behind an initial apparent hit list of approximately 70 people in his car after exchanging fire with police outside the home of one victim and fleeing the scene early Saturday morning.

This was about the first list of targets that they found.

A list of about 70 names was found in writings recovered from the fake police vehicle that was left at the crime scene, the officials said. The writings and list of names included prominent state and federal lawmakers and community leaders, along with abortion rights advocates and information about healthcare facilities, according to the officials.

Journalist Liz Collin was one of the first reporters to break the news, doing so in a post on X. In a follow-up, she added more detail, writing that, “Multiple sources say he was spotted near a residence in Green Isle and began running down a driveway into the woods, wearing all black with a backpack.” “At one point he was tucked in the fetal position and then began to army crawl until he eventually stood up to surrender,” she reported from those sources.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said during a separate press conference Monday morning that her office intends to pursue first-degree murder charges against Boelter. The sentence, if he is convicted, is life without parole.

The second-degree murder charges — the highest level that can be filed via complaint — were brought forward late Saturday in order to obtain a nationwide arrest warrant, Moriarty said.

"I want to assure our community and all those who are grieving that we will seek justice and accountability for the victims of these heinous crimes," Moriarty said.
