Artose Pinner-RB- Vikings Sep. 3 - 5:04 pm et

Vikings claimed former Lions RB Artose Pinner off waivers.

Pinner knows the West Coast offense from his days in Detroit. He pushes rookie Wendall Mathis off the roster, but shouldn't compete for a big role right away. He'll be fourth on the depth chart.

Most people will say this is insignificant, but I truly believe that Pinner can be a player in this league. Despite all the pimping that JWVDCW (SP?) has done for him, he has proven to be very effective, and even outperformed Kevin Jones on several occasions last year. The way that Chester Taylor has struggled so far this preseason, I don't think it is out of the question that Pinner could work his way into a prominent role this with the Vikings.

plus he can probably offer some insight into the Lions strategy that the Vikes may find usefull when they play them

I don't disagree. He's got some talent, but his injury held him back in the draft and during his first year. If he's given the opportunity, which is not out of the question with only Taylor, Moore and Fason ahead of him, you never know.

I'm absolutely sure that a guy who oculdn't make the Lions is going to play over a guy brad Childress handpicked to be his lead horse back. Nail on the head.

There's a reason guys don't make teams. Dayne, Davenport, Pinner, they don't go from being out on the street to suddenly getting 15-20 carries.

IM sure someone here has a study on something like that... wonder how many times if any someone who has changed teams "x" times and picked up off waivers etc has made a significant impact....Chris

Pretty sure Gado did pretty well last year after being cut. Some of us play in larger leagues where starters are not readily available.

Taylor finished as the 43rd running back last year, Pinner finished as the 47th. Taylor had a better offensive line, and had 21 more touches. While Taylor will certainly get the first shot due to the salary differential, I don't think that their talent level is all that different.

The reason why Pinner was cut is because of the new coaching staff. Martz brought in his boy Arlen Harris, and drafted Calhoun because he fit the offense better. Obviously there was no room for Pinner after that. Shortsighted thinking is a bad thing for dynasty leagues, you could make the same argument that Mike Bell and Waly Lundy are no good as they weren't even drafted throughout 7 rounds of the draft. However, both are starting week 1.

I pretty much follow and agree with you other than the argument of Lundi and Bell and their not being drafted. They weren't cut from a team and picked up only days from week 1. Pinner has his work cut out for him if he is to make any significant impact. Now if you are looking for 2-3 years down the road and his impact... thats another story although he isnt high on my watch list.

So what you're saying is that once Taylor and Fason go down to injury, Pinner will be the man.Good to know.

I'm not trying to go JWV*** on you guys and say that Pinner is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I'm saying that his talent level is on par with the other running backs on the roster. Not to mention that Fason and Moore have both been nicked up this preseason, while Taylor has yet to impress. There are many threads about inferior players, and all I'm saying is that Pinner's ability is overlooked.

i watched the lions games this pre-season and pinner was one of the few guys that looked good to me . he was in late and so played against 3rd string defense but he ran well imo . he ran better inside than any other lion back in the pre-season i thought .

Interesting...

Steelers | Team put in a claim for Pinner

Mon, 4 Sep 2006 22:49:00 -0700

Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers put in a waiver claim for RB Artose Pinner when he was released over the weekend. However, Pinner was awarded to the Minnesota Vikings instead.

this is funny . i was thinking when the lions cut him he would be perfect for the bettis role in pittsburgh after watching him in detroit this pre-season .

Pinner's only problem in Detroit was that him and Kevin Jones have nearly identical games. The Lions were obviously not going to get rid of Jones so Pinner was the casualty. I think Pinner outperformed Jones last year, but both were working in a terrible offense by the end of the year. In Minnesota he will have to battle for playing time since I believe they have 4 good backs. Pinner has a little better all around game than Fason, but does not catch the ball quite as well as Moore, and I think he has very similar talent to Taylor, and I would not be surprised if he see significant time if Taylor struggles.

WB jwvd... where have you been?

I haven't seen you since you tried to resuscitate your two year old Mike Vick thread three weeks ago.

So, is the consensus here that Pinner will, eventually, pass Fason on the depth chart in Minnesota??

If anyone does not agree with that, I'd like to hear your opinion please...
