A's bring back DH Frank Thomas (1 Viewer)

Stupid stupid signing. They would have been much better off with Bonds.

Take away his 3-consecutive-game-HR-binge, he is hitting .128 with 0 HR and 3 RBI.

It's been said before, but the Big Hurt, in his old age, has started a season like this in the past, and found a way to bounce back each time. I'm not sure how signing a guy like the Hurt for $500,000 is a bad deal...it really has no downside, and the upside is huge...

not sure what bonds' price tag is (i'm assuming it drops by the day as the league colludes to keep him out of the league), but bonds will hit for the same power numbers as thomas, plus he'll get on base like crazy, not have huge slumps, and sell a ton of tickets.

but for $500,000 in a winnable division, nothing wrong with the signing i guess.

You're right. He'll probably never hit another homer. Ever.

Bonds would've commanded at least a few million. A's are only paying the minimum for Hurt.Guy always starts slow and then cranks it up later. He was .190/.264/.405 in April when he was with the A's the first time around.Always fun to see a different lineup out there every night.

How could anyone think this is dumb? They're paying the league minimum for a power hitter prone to cold starts on a team that's dead last in HR's.

is there something going on where bonds' people are pissed about collusion or something. im sure the signing of thomas isnt gonna help...

I know it is only 4 games into his 2nd stint with the A's, but:

.154 (2-13), 0 HR, 1 RBI

He hit .167 (10-60), 3 HR, 11 RBI with the Blue Jays.

There is certainly a chance that the 39 year old Hurt has reached the end of the line...but you've got to give him 250PA just to make sure...for his fans...see him while you can, this is probably the last go-around...

- F. Thomas tripled to right, D. Barton scored

Someone explain to me how this happened? Did the Hurt hit the ball so hard that it knocked out the LF?
