As commish I screwed up the seeding -- did I make the right call? (1 Viewer)

The Moz

Footballguy
I mis seeded the WC round.

I pitted team Alpha against team Delta and team Chi against team Beta

team Delta beat team Alpha

team Chi beat team Beta

My screw up was I looked at point total for the seedings of the teams 7-6 instead of realizing team DElta beat team Chi twice during the season - givign him the first tie breaker.

the seedings should of been Team Chi - team Alpha and team Delta - team Beta

This results in team Beta and team Chi advancing instead of team Delta and team Chi.

As commish I felt the only fair thing was to make it as it should of been and advance team Beta and Team Chi -- resulting in Team Delta having false elation thinking he won when he really didn't. To try and compensate for my total screw up as commish I offered team Delta a free 100 dollar buy in for next season.

just wondering if the masses here think I did the right thing. I tried my best to make it as it should of been and to soften the blow to the team that was in then when adjusted was out.

You made a mistake, owned up to it, re-seeded (sucks, but I think it is fair) and then softened the blow. I always try to put myself in the shoes of the person who came out on the short end of the stick. Yeah I won, but there was a seeding error. I would be upset, but if the commish gave me a free buy-in for next year, I would take it as an olive branch and move on...not from the league, with my anger.

Out of curiousity, who caught the error in seeding?

I can't say but he is a regular poster here.

As long as the correction was made before the next round, I see nothing wrong with it.

If Team D set his lineup based on what his opponent was doing ( ), that's his problem.

While you made the initial error, its also on your league mates to...my commish seeded the playoffs wrong and I let him know about it, because I didnt want something like this to happen to me, where I think I won but didnt really. You did the right thing in the end, and again its not on just you, your league mats should have known how the seeding works and should have spoken up.

You're personally paying his $100 or you're depriving the other teams in your league of the $100 in potential prize money next year?

i don't speak greek so helping you is hard fo rme but i would say just make it go like it should have and no one can complain because the rules are clear and posted and you shouldn't have gone and given away the buy in next year because really you fixed what otherwise would have been an AFFL type problem where people lost faith in the league because if the playoffs don't get seeded like they are supposed to then what kind of faith can you have in the overall end result but it was still a nice thing of you to do with the hondo bucks and all so you clearly have sportsmanship points coming from everyone involved.

out of my pocket -- my #### up not the leagues fault
Again, you really couldn't have handled it better...

Why? He shouldn't get a $100 freebie out of this.Yes you screwed up, but it was caught before the next round. Stings a bit to be him, but if he doesn't understand ... F him.

I assume you also do not believe in commas?

It is a nice gesture on the Commish's behalf...why so angry?

You should continue the bracket as you had ( wrongly ) and also have a hypothetical bracket where it would have the teams seeded without your screw up.

Payout for both brackets.

In other words tell your children you can't get them any Christmas presents because you screwed up your fantasy football league.

As others have already said, I don't think you could have handled it any better. I don't think the offer to pony up $100 was necessary but it was certainly a stand up thing to do. I'm a commish as well and know it can be thankless. Kudos to you!

You handled it the best you could, fo-moz-cker. Now just read the following one more time as penance and sleep easily.

I'd like to know if the OP/Commish was the owner of any of the 4 teams that were mentioned. (?)

It's not like mis-seeding the teams initially had any affect on the outcome. It's not real football, there's no defenses. The only change was that one guy thought he'd won when he'd actually lost, so he got a little happier than he should have.

I actually made this same mistake a few years ago and put it back to the way it should have been just like you did. Everyone in my league took it in stride, and frankly I wouldn't really think any reasonable person would have a problem with it.

I play in this league.

I'm not one of the owners involved.

Been in the league for several yrs.

Moz is a great commish, but made an honest mistake.

Moz's unsolicited offer to remedy via paying dude's dues is evidence of that.

It went over just fine in the league too, good group of guys.

I commish 2 leagues this league is my favorite for the variety and coolness of everyone in it I just felt really bad for the guy who got mis lead ( my fault ) . This league isn't about the money for me - it is about having fun and rivalries which we have plenty of. been going good for 8 years now hope theres many more to come. 1 thing is sure I will not make that mistake again.

if the jilted guy has the true meaning ofChristmas sportsmanship in his heart he will forgive and forget and play stronger next year and win the league so that it will all work out in the end and a proverbial angle will get its wings so really you might have saved the league because leagues that cant get past something like this probably weren't meant to be.

:goodposting:Earlier someone asked who caught the error. Odd that they would catch it after they lost their game and not before (as in when qualifying for playoffs, scoreboard watching etc)I wonder if he would have spoken up if the shoe had been on the other foot... (ie he advanced but wouldnt have if seeded right)

It's a way unecc gesture. b/c moops is too nice for his own good. His screw up did nothing to this guys true chances. comissh's do so much #### (usually for free) an error in seeding should have equally been caught by the other 11 guys (or at least the other 3/4 guys) not moops. frankly he should have declined the offer.

you went above and beyond fixing the issue. :goodposting:
maybe i am missing something. if this is a league moops runs (like antsports, unlucky etc) then I could see a free entry. If this was a league moops happens to commish, then the paid entry is jsut a lil guilt on moops part, and the other dude should by all rights turn it down.

I think you resolved the situation admirably, however, I also don't think you needed to offer team delta a free ride next season for it to be ok. That was above and beyond the call, and will certainly smooth over any hard feelings the other owner could have possibly had. :blackdot:

:useless: If I was in this league, I'd be more pissed at the team actually taking you up on the offer of a free '11 buy-in than your original screwup. Assuming he's actually taking it.

Do yourself a favor and add a Co/Vice-Commish going forward. I am the Commish, however there is another individual that I use to bounce all issues off of to make sure my thinking is correct. Plus sometimes, your team is the center of the issue, so it is nice to have a backup individual to make the call if that is the case. I never seed teams without this individuals input and him signing off so to speak on the seedings. Mistakes like this just can't happen, so make sure to have a second pair of eyes on everything.
