Asante Samuel requests trade (1 Viewer)

Wow.,... that was one tiny little aside and you are really taking it and running with it.OK man, the thread is yours.
:lmao: Step 1: say something wrong.Step 2: accuse people who disagree with you of being Patriot homer sheep.Step 3: when refuted, instead of sticking up for your viewpoint, attempt to make the disagreeing party appear to be going overboard and thus save face.If you want to come here with weak Patriots.com information, at least stick around when someone calls you out on it. Lame shtick dude.

LoL Redskins.#6 for Asante????? :(
Same trade as Briggs. Samuel and #28 for #6. You'd have to think about that. I think the Pats would target Laron Landry.
Is that really an upgrade? If they took the money it would take to sign Landry, that would be a good chunk of what they had to pay Samuel and they already know what they have in Samuel.
I dont disagree. I think for value it is something you would have to consider if you think you cant sign Samuel. Samuel is apparently looking for more than what the #6 pick would get. I dont know that the Pats will give him that. I was just speculating that if this trade went down, I think the Pats would look at Landry.

Pat - Your account of Samuel's career and his bio on the Patriots homepage are quite different. I attribute this to a common reaction of Patriot fans to talk up the players that are definitely on the team, and as soon as one of them falls out of line, or leaves the team they get disavowed. Why does this happen?
This is from the Patriots website:Career Transactions--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Asante Samuel was selected by the New England Patriots in the fourth round (120th overall) of the 2003 NFL draft … Signed by the Patriots (07/15/03). Career Statistics--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Regular Season Tackles Interceptions Miscellaneous Year Team G/S TT UT A S Yds No Yds Avg TD PD FF FR SpT 2003 Patriots 16/1 35 33 2 0.0 0.0 2 55 27.5 0 9 0 0 2 2005 Patriots 13/8 34 32 2 0.0 0.0 1 34 34 0 12 2 0 0 2005 Patriots 15/15 53 41 12 0.0 0.0 3 15 5 0 18 0 0 0 2006 Patriots 15/15 62 56 6 0.0 0.0 10 120 12 0 24 1 0 0 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Totals 59/39 184 162 20 0.0 0.0 16 224 14.0 0 63 3 0 2 I dont think my recollection of his career is that far off at all. He has been a 2 year starter with 1 year at an elite level. He was a nickel back his first year and missed 3 games but started half the games. He was a valuable member of the secondary and then he became a top cornerback last year.

How is Scrabble any different than Samuel in that Samuel has only done it one year?
Samuel has had more than one good season. Let's not pretend he just emerged in 2006. :)Boston - I understand Patriot fans will side with the BB side of things, however who is to say if some of those vets were re-signed in NE, that they'd be questing for their 4th straight right now and 5th in 6 seasons? You cannot deny their team would be better if they still had Ty Law and their old corps of WRs instead of a few extra draft picks and lots of extra cap space. Yes, this doesn't take into account how good they will be 4 years from now when signed guys become not useful, but it would have made the team better. In case you haven't noticed, the Patriots haven't won a Super Bowl in the past three seasons. So instead of constantly taking care of the future, perhaps it's not so horrible to try to keep as many good players to win as much as possible in the present.
If you're going to sign everyone who would you cut? This isn't baseball. There is a cap and you can't just sign guys without ramifications. So if you want to sign Branch to big money are you willing to lose Koppen? Would you rather have David Givens than Stephen Neal and Jarvis Green? Would you rather sign Givens and keep Willie and not have money for Adalius Thomas? The Pats have made some tough decisions. Yet, when you're a team that's loaded with talent that comes with the turf. You just can't sign everyone and not have it eventually bite you in the butt. You are going to lose good players because that's what happens in the modern day NFL. The Pats are committed to being good over the long haul and the fact they were a first down away from going to the Super Bowl last year and had enough cap space to do what they've done this offseason would indicate things are being run pretty intelligently. While I want (and expect) another championship or two I don't want to see the Pats bottom out for five years to accomplish it. Many forget but the Pats were a horrible organization for years...it hasn't always been this good...and I for one don't want to go back to that nonsense.
