Ashley Madison hacked - Start hiding everything (1 Viewer)

I haven't read this whole thing yet and am kind of busy but...

Who hacked this site and what do they want out of it?

What is a "Dark Web"?

I'll hang up and listen, thanks.

Question: would it be ethical to jump on as many unclaimed email addresses for famous people as you can find (yeah, ricksantorum@gmail.com is probably gone, but rick.santorum? rick_santorum?) and sign up for a bunch of embarrassing sites in anticipation of the next big hack?

Follow-up question: I may have already done this.
ricksantorum@gmail.com will go to the same email box as rick.santorum@gmail.com as will r.i.c.k.s.a.n.t.o.r.u.m@gmail.com
Although if these sites aren't even going to verify the address, I guess I can just use their real ones. Welcome to Grindr, tedcruz@senate.gov.
The fact that AM wasn't verifying email addresses is outrageous, especially considering the sensitive nature of their business. But it's a big public thing now, and lots of people will be hurt. I expect a lot of websites will change their policies and require verified email addresses.

Think I got my first question:

The Impact Team had demanded that the site's owner, Avid Life Media, take the site down. When it didn't, it posted the 10-gigabyte file containing databases that include 28 million unique email addresses.

And your second question. For dark web it was easy to google. ?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Web

Exec director of Louisiana GOP swears it was for opposition research. pretty good shtick.
It is actually not that hard to believe.

People who aren't in the political world have no idea how sneaky/crafty political hacks can be. Of course, he really could have just been trying to get laid though.

I think there is a little more to it than that.

My understanding, though I may be wrong, was that AM charged customers $19 under the guise that they would totally/permanently delete the information of said customer. These guys found out that AM was collecting the money, but not actually deleting these people from their records.

And then it escalated from there. Again, as I understand it.

I would really like to be a fly on the wall and see what is going on internally with the site in terms of usage/signups/traffic, etc.

Come on 'Merica!! We can do better than a Duggar. This isn't even the worst thing this family has done all year.

Page 6 and all we've gotten are men revealed? I want to know which of my neighbor ladies are looking for a little action on the side :towelwave:

Not a good year for him or his family. I wonder if TLC needs a new giant family to focus on....one that doesn't pretend at all to have morals or religion...one that centers around a man and his former nanny?
I don't think they can afford the Clintons.

Anyone know where we can find the names? Some real douchebags at my wife's workplace and she is dying to know if they're AM subscribers.

I read the hackers said it was like 90% to 95% guys on there and that a lot of the females were fake profiles. Too funny.
How would they know this?
I would imagine Jennifer Smith's profile has a backend email of FEMBOT341@ashleymadison.com or something similar. With a group of dudes and old ladies working the profiles.
It wouldn't surprise me to have a group of people dedicated to having fake women's profiles online to keep guys on the hook for the membership fees. I've read and know a couple people who have had online accounts for something similar who became very suspicious of the website after a few months. Basically you periodically get a few emails back and forth from a random catfish who doesn't want to meet in person. You create a few long generic emails that you can easily send out to the masses and keep them hooked.

I saw a list that had about 3000 names of from people in Mississippi. It was taken down this morning.

I did a quick scan thru about the first 1000. Found one guy I know pretty well...after seeing that I kind of felt like I didn't want to see the rest of the list. I don't know the guy or his wife well enough to call him out, nor would I want too anyway. But now that I know it will just be awkward.

I couldn't imagine being someone that signed up and is having to sweat this out.

I was at a fantasy draft in Southaven and we knew about 10 guys! We were more into that list than making picks.

I've never visited the stupid site in my life, but one of my email addresses showed up on the supposed hacked database. I told my wife it's bs and she believes me, but I'm still pissed my address showed up at all. I'm not stupid enough to use a web site to pick up some trim. I go to the supermarket, supercuts or the park.

Thank god I stopped paying for porn a decade ago! Oof.

Also thank god I'm married to a fun gal - Ashley Madison certainly wouldn't fly (without permission which I am not interested in), but any other certain activities.

I hated the marketing of that site from the moment I saw it. Something about openly promoting infidelity, not that I'm easily offended. Just feels icky. Good for them for tapping into a market I guess, but on the other hand I'm not at all surprised to find out it's 80% men on the site, and success rate is really low.

I don't feel sorry for anyone who's been exposed. My approach when doing anything "wrong": expect to get caught, and be prepared to deal with the consequences. And I believe most cheaters do eventually get found out, one way or another. IMO if you get the urge that badly, go see a pro and wrap it up.

So here's the thing I was in my mid 20's had been dating my wife for a little while (we were not engaged) however I was curious to see what the site was about (stupid kid). I hardly remember much about why I signed up or even what I saw but I do know that it was for more laughs than anything and I didn't give my credit card information or message anyone.

I never deleted my account - fast forward 10 years later and I have to explain to the now wife why at that time in my life I was on this site.

Stupid thing for me was I used a legit email that I use for everything personal.

Luckily she believes me (somewhat - probably be better if she could see my history on there) thinks I'm stupid but now questions if we should have ever been together in the first place. She says we will be fine but I am one of those poor schlubs who did the minimum and now are left with some hefty explaining.

Not fun I can tell you that.

Plenty of guys like you out there...Feel sorry for yall really.

If they're gonna release the names of everyone thats used the site, they should at least get some date stamps out there.

I never even went on the site, yet my address showed up on some list of members from AM "or" Adult Friend Finder. No idea what site my wife checked but I've read that the data that's out there isn't 100% reliable. I went on both sites and neither of them recognized my email address.

In my locale, Excel spreadsheet has been released with name, dates, email addresses, mailing address and city for paid users. I know A LOT of people on the spreadsheet.

Let's just suppose you had a friend whose name appeared multiple times on the list (name appears for every transaction...some as many as 50+ times) - do you give them a friendly heads up or just stay the hell away?

stay far away.

Yeah, F that. I don't talk to the guy until all the dominoes drop.

You in DC? That's where I'm from originally, so I checked the list that everyone has seen by now.

Found one name of a not-close relative's spouse and instantly felt just kind of sick at heart and regretted even looking. So I would suggest you stay far away. If you found someone else's name on there, guess what? He's already found it too and there's a decent chance his wife did, too, or one of her "helpful" friends who couldn't wait to share the news with her did.

If you tip him to the list, he's never going to be able to look you in the eye again. So just do him a solid and never allude to having seen it -- even when he's depressed and out drinking after his wife has left him.

Confederacy of douchebags.

1. Men using site

2. Hackers releasing data

3. Company running site / taking money to delete data and not doing it

4. People going out of way to expose data

5. People being nosy about data

6. Media perpetuating it all

Miss anyone? Whole thing is a commentary on our age.

hard to disagree with you

So where are some of the actual name lists? I've only found sites where you can plug in emails individually.

Looking for names as well. Not email addresses. Anyone have the site with the info?

The lawsuits are starting.
Not surprising...but who do you sue? The hackers? AM? Whomever you got the list from?

Considering there have been several reported suicides due to this leak, and people are starting to find colleagues and neighbors on the lists, it's just going to get worse.

Just so I understand this correctly - The DC radio station I listen to was saying that there was a list sorted by town...I think that was just for like 3 counties in Northern Virginia. There isn't a national database sortable in this way, right?

Where are you guys seeing these list of names? Did someone make another searchable database yet?
