Assani's Poker Thread (4 Viewers)

I think he plays better as Assani Fisher and posts better on here as Assani Fisher.

Not to sure about that jvwvwvwcdecbw character.
I don't know enough about his poker play to say which is better, but I certainly prefer Assani's posting over jwvvwddedasrbcw.
Haha...seems as if jwvdcw was either "love or hate."I kid you not- I actually have received PMs asking if I'm still going to be posting funny threads through jwvdcw because they miss them.
Did you get my text messages?

Man, that pot was just plain Icy!
Indeed! So far, I havn't used the icy pots shtick at Party since changing my name to AssaniFisher about 4 months ago. Maybe I should bring it back. I experimented a bit with it in this thread over at 2+2(look at late in the 2nd page or in the 3rd page for my posts).

There were some sick hands in that most recent session! Glad you came out on the good side of most of them  You said you learned a lesson from this hand, but how would you play it differently? Just call the gross overbet? Fold your trips??

Crazy suckout here. Feel very lucky. Ok, I'll be the first to admit that it is a weakness of mine when someone makes a ridiculous overbet of the pot...I simply can't logically make a read there. For example, here I put him on a big pair that thought he was good and was trying to protect against the flush. I guess I have to realize that if he puts me on a queen, then that actually is a great bet, and I have to guard against that more often. Luckily I won the hand- its always nicer to learn you're lessons while winning.***** Hand History for Game 3553968727 *****$2000 NL Texas Hold'em - Tuesday, February 14, 18:39:02 EDT 2006Table Table 66082 (No DP) (Real Money)Seat 8 is the buttonTotal number of players : 10 Seat 2: SiHuynh ( $2046.80 )Seat 3: prrll ( $1465.10 )Seat 6: hsinpei ( $3192.20 )Seat 7: crapface82 ( $2411 )Seat 8: hotmark777 ( $2176.40 )Seat 4: AssaniFisher ( $2797.70 )Seat 10: athorn10 ( $1700 )Seat 1: ILUVTOLOSE ( $2000 )Seat 9: Ganyard16 ( $397 )Seat 5: Margit35 ( $2007 )Ganyard16 posts small blind [$10].ILUVTOLOSE posts big blind [$20].** Dealing down cards **Dealt to AssaniFisher [ Ts Qs ]SiHuynh folds.prrll calls [$20].AssaniFisher calls [$20].Margit35 folds.hsinpei folds.crapface82 folds.hotmark777 folds.Ganyard16 calls [$10].>You have options at Table 66919 (No DP) Table!.ILUVTOLOSE checks.** Dealing Flop ** [ Qc, Qh, 4c ]Ganyard16 checks.ILUVTOLOSE checks.>You have options at Table 64794 Table!.prrll bets [$20].AssaniFisher calls [$20].Ganyard16 folds.ILUVTOLOSE folds.** Dealing Turn ** [ 6s ]prrll bets [$475].>You have options at Table 64794 Table!.>You have options at Table 64778 (No DP) Table!.AssaniFisher raises [$1600].>You have options at Table 65190 (No DP) Table!.prrll is all-In [$950.10]** Dealing River ** [ Td ]AssaniFisher shows [ Ts, Qs ] a full house, Queens full of tens.prrll doesn't show [ 4d, 4h ] a full house, Fours full of queens.AssaniFisher wins $174.90 from side pot #1 with a full house, Queens full of tens.AssaniFisher wins $2967.20 from the main pot with a full house, Queens full of tens.

Its definitely a tough laydown. But you have to ask what exactly he is representing. I think a set is clearly what he is representing with that huge overbet, as hes hoping that I have a Q and can't lay it down(many people can't including me on this hand I guess). It really is a tough spot. Calling is an interesting option, as you can't really fear the flush draw when hes pushing so many chips in. But then if he goes all in on the river, can I get away from it? I think so. I think calling the turn is the right move. And then call the river if he makes a decent bet; fold to a huge bet. Either that or just foldings on the turn. In fact, maybe folding on the turn is best. I really don't know.

I realize that is very passive, but its pretty clear what hes representing imo(although I guess its easy to say that now...at the time I thought he might have had a big pocket pair).

Maybe I'll post this at 2+2 to get some thoughts.

Yikes. Either way this is a rough situation. If anything, don't you also have to be concerned about being out-kicked? I took down a pot of about $5k 2 days ago on a hand where two jacks flopped and I had AJ. We both end up all-in on the river and my opponent flips KJ, and I had him outkicked.

It may just be that I am not an advanced enough poker player, but I don't think there is anything you can do in these situations but takes these licks. There is no way I could ever get away from this hand (or, for example, the KJ my opponent held in the example above). This is where it's just luck of the draw IMO.

Yeah, in the absence of a great read/notes on the player that tells you he NEVER risks a lot of money without a moster, I can't see getting away from this hand either.

There were some sick hands in that most recent session! Glad you came out on the good side of most of them

You said you learned a lesson from this hand, but how would you play it differently? Just call the gross overbet? Fold your trips??

Crazy suckout here. Feel very lucky. Ok, I'll be the first to admit that it is a weakness of mine when someone makes a ridiculous overbet of the pot...I simply can't logically make a read there. For example, here I put him on a big pair that thought he was good and was trying to protect against the flush. I guess I have to realize that if he puts me on a queen, then that actually is a great bet, and I have to guard against that more often. Luckily I won the hand- its always nicer to learn you're lessons while winning.

Maybe I'll post this at 2+2 to get some thoughts.

amen to that

FWIW nearly everyone on 2+2 is saying that is should've been a very easy fold with Q-10 there. Not one person has said that they'd call or raise.

 Seriously?

Wow. I guess it comes down to what we've talked about previously, about "choosing your battles" wisely. If someone is betting big here and you know it's a hand you can lose (due to a better kicker, a boat, etc.), perhaps you choose not to fight this battle.

This is something you always talk about, and I think it's such an important point, particularly at high-stakes poker where an all-in loss really hurts, but I never imagined that it would apply to hands where you have such a monster.

Really interesting that that is the consensus over at 2+2. I guess it's something for me to consider more carefully. I think the truth is that it's human nature to become so excited when you have a hand like that Q-10, and to just be salivating at the possibility of doubling up. The flipside is, I guess, that if you are going to put $2k on the line, why not wait until the time when you know for sure that you've got the nuts. It happens sometimes, and eventually there will be someone on the other side of the equation with the 2nd nuts who will not be able to get away from it.

Really interesting. Particularly in view of the fact that I can play several hours of sound poker, good reads, small and moderate steals to make $2k only to see that same $2k vanish into thin air because I had the 2nd best hand at the table once and couldn't walk away from it.

Maybe this the most important point and most largest divide separating the truly consistent and profitable players from the rest of us -- the ability to lay down the monster and fight that fight another day. Having lost a $5k pot the other day with the 2nd nuts on a stupid all-in move when I got overanxious, this definitely hits home. Had I decided not to play that hand I'm a few thousand dollars bigger in the bankroll (and probably also more profitable for the hours following that beat during that session, since I would just be in a better state of mind without that loss).

This thread is really making me think about things and see them in a new light.

Patience really is a virtue. Why risk your whole stack with your smaller full house when you know the other guy could be holding a bigger full house when you know that eventually, some day, you will have the bigger full house and someone with the smaller full house will put all his money out there.

I guess the only flaw with this thinking comes into play with super aggressive players. If you laid down every hand that bet into you'd never make a dime at a table with them (perhaps then the idea is to avoid those tables then).

At the lower limits where I play, I've found that overbets like these are usually bluffs, but I can see how it would be different at higher limits. A maniac who is always betting huge into pots wouldn't last long at a higher stakes table.

Day 12(continued)

2/14/06

After my flop bet, he typed "easy champ" into the chat...was very fortunate to have him fold here. And of course, I showed...I think I'm going to start showing bluffs more and more.

What was this? I've played with him a lot before, and usually hes pretty solid. When he called, I thought I was beat for sure....Ok, just checked poker tracker: This guy is up $17K when I've been at the tables with him!! Thats crazy that he'd make a call like that then. But also I remember that this is the guy I got into it with a while ago(he was berating me, and I was just laughing at him and joking around)...maybe that had something to do with it. I dunno.

Stole 2 sets of blinds this round with 10-K and 88. At 23K now but blinds about to be on me. Kinda wishing I had played that 10-J hand, as I bet he would've checked it down with me and I would've won a nice pot, but whatever.

This is big for me here.

Next hand went all in with K8(only about 9.5K left). Was scared that it looked like a tilt play and was more likely to get called, but I had to do it with my shortstack.

Disappointed in the tourney, but had a great day overall. I won $6620 on the day.

Day 12(continued)

After my flop bet, he typed "easy champ" into the chat...was very fortunate to have him fold here. And of course, I showed...I think I'm going to start showing bluffs more and more.

Just wanted to chime in and wish you luck for the next week for so.

I won't be able to post or check this thread very much. Had to go to Florida to see my dad in the hospital.

I'll have tons of reading later though..

What was COFEE thinking calling the all-in?

Looks like the smallish raises that M_A_P makes are a sign of weakness.
 Thanks...help always appriciated.
Can I not search for you or something? I'm getting frustrated trying to find ya.
Go to tournaments. Go to special. Make sure you don't have 'show registering' checked. Sort them by time. Go to the one that started at 21:00 today. Its called Super Tuesday.

Hope my laptop battery holds up...*turns down screen brightness*.
Power cord down?
In bed, and nowhere to plug in nearby. (some people read, I post on FBG  ) And, I don't want to get up and force the other party to wake up as well.

Makes sense...except for the part about people reading.
A lot of people read every night in bed before they go to sleep. I tap on a laptop instead. Just a comparison. It relaxes me enough so I can sleep (I'm a wound up type of guy).
