When do we get to start the "At what point is it considered a stock market recovery?" thread?
Not after only 2 weeks and with all of the markets still in the red for the year. If stocks actually start showing gains for the year then maybe you could start a thread on that and how long this new bubble will last. All of this stimulus will still have to be paid for some time. The volume has been pretty strong however. Yesterday 99% of the S&P 500 companies had gains. The ones that didn't had largely been overbought prior to yesterday so those few losers were not very convincing about short term bearish sentiment.I think this rally will have some legs but I still consider it a bear market rally and previous low targets may yet still be on the horizion.
Wondering if others share the same opinion as Biabreakable? As someone who has put investments in a cash position, I am watching closely for the get-back-in point. The two weeks of positive activity, positive housing report, and some other things have me wondering if that time is sooner rather than later?

It wouldn't surprise me if we hit 10k by the end of the year. I'm not saying that it'll be 10k on 12/31/09, just that it wouldn't surprise me if we hit it at some point.

I think it's a good time to buy stocks (assuming you don't need the money for a few years).

I think the low is behind us, and even if it isn't, I don't think it's going below $6500 anytime soon. I actually wish I had some disposable cash to get in to the market...I thought about buying Citi back when it was at $1 and already regret not doing so.

There's so much crap that hasn't hit the fan yet. We've got a nice little rally here but it will be very short lived. There's no way we finish 2009 above 9000, let alone 10,000.

So as of late, we are seeing better than anticipated earnings reports from some banks and other companies. Yesterday, the Fed said the economic outlook has "improved modestly" and consumer spending has shown "signs of stabilizing". And the Dow has rebounded from 6,500 on March 9th to 8,000+.

Time to get back in the game?

:Time to get back in the game?
if we see a nice 2% gain today I'm selling some off, that would be 5% in 5 days, a little too much too soon, we are not going _straight_ up from here.
Thought you were on your way until the Chrysler news. That changed what was turning out to be a good day.Personally, I have been waiting until the auto stuff shakes out before getting back in (i.e. after the June 1st GM deadline).
