There was an issue that occurred during our auction the other night and I'd like the feedback from the Shark Pool before I make a decision. Here's what happened near the end of the auction:

Team A is prompted to nominate a player.

Team A: "Sam Bradford @"

Team B: "2"

Team A: "2"

Commissioner: "Going Once"

Team A: "The @ was a 2"

Commissioner: "Going Twice"

Commissioner: "Sold"

Sam Bradford was awarded to Team B for $2 and later removed and put in the FA pool after a complaint was made during the auction. Note: If there is no bid included with a nominated player, the bid is $1.

I realize that Team A was attempting to bid $2 but a symbol has never been accepted as a legit bid in previous auctions especially after another team places a higher bid before a retraction is made. Team A could have bid $3 but assumed his @ bid counted for $2. Team B's max bid was $2 and couldn't bid $3.

Do you think Bradford should go to Team A, Team B, or remain in the FA pool?

Team A, unless you want to be a dweeb. It's pretty clear he intended to bid $2. Next time use an auction room.

Well it is pretty sad the auctioneer closed the bids before sorting this out. I think if anybody gets him at 2 it is player A. I also think that the second bidder should have realized what was going on as well. Typos happen all the time and unless this is some cuthroat league on a strict time table the auctioneer is at fault here.

Team B was bidding $2 no matter who the player was. As soon as the nomination was made, the bid appeared. He had no idea Team A was bidding @.The auction is on a strict time table, ending at midnight and then going to a standard draft IAW the rules. There was only five minutes left. I don't see how player B can bid $2 if player A has already bid $2 ( which it clearly looks like he did after he corrected his typo). I am not sure how you can have an auction on a strict time table given you do not know how many 1 bid players you will have and how many multiple bid players you will have . I'm not sure what IAW the rules means. I understand wanting to move things on and being on schedule but sometimes getting things right is more important than sticking to a very strict time table. p.s. Don't mean to come off as an ###. I gather that after a set number of auction roster spots you fill out the rest of the roster with a serpentine draft (correct me if i am wrong). If that is the case I don;t see how you CAN move the draft along without deciding this first.

Yes, in hindsight the auction should have been stopped and the matter resolved. Thanks for your opinion. You didn't come off as an ###. That was directed towards the poster before you, sorry. The finishing before midnight would not have been an issue but unfortunately one owner was 30 minutes late entering the room.Bradford was put on Team A's roster. Fair play and common sense win out. Also, symbols will now be accepted as bids in future auctions.Matter closed.

Good to see that common sense prevailed. That said, you should really change your system to prevent this type of lunacy in the future. "Accepting symbols" makes no sense. Nor does a "fastest to reply has an advantage" system make a lot of sense either.

Well the person nominating gets first bid in any auction I have seen but how do you do it except for fastest reply after that? I can see how fastest connection would have an advantage but unless you have some order to go by( which would probably be a nightmare to administer) I don't see how else you do it when you are not live. Maybe there is software that keeps track of a bid order (like a draft order instead of for bids) That would even things out a bit. Say the nominator puts up a player and 3 people bid a dollar more. Instead of fastest typer/connection getting that player, the system could recognize player B as next in line so his bid takes prescident.

Yes, you need an auction bid order to eliminate this type of issue. Just go around the horn and once a person doesn't bid then they are out for good.

How can a player be awarded when NO ONE knows where the bidding stand? The only acceptable response is to IMMEDIATELY have Team A renominate a player.
