yeah, I would definitely agree w/you on baltimore, but I think weeks 15 and 16 you will see them run the ball plenty against miami and the jets.
if maroney can stay healthy a couple more weeks.....
I think you have to be careful when you extrapolate out from a very small sample size and try to qualitatively assess what's going on, because the situations in football games are always fluid.
my observation from watching a lot of pats games, and maybe yudkin or some others can back me up, is that belichick likes to run the ball about half the time, depending on opponent, of course.
what I love about that team is that they try not to get too predictable w/their offense, and like to establish the run so that the other team never knows what to expect on any given down, and the play action stuff will remain effective.
now, you've already made the observation that the pats ran the ball plenty when morris was available, so you know their intent -- the question being if maroney can also fill that role.
week 7 - maroney just coming back off injury, maybe not 100% getting few carries.
week 8 - pats run the ball 28x
week 9 - pats run the ball on half their plays in first half of game vs indy, then probably get away from it in second half throwing to moss
week 11 - maroney supposedly injures foot early in 2nd quarter and sits out rest of game -- evans and eckel carry the ball 20x in second half.
week 12 - belichick decides to come out in first half running no huddle shotgun
so, that's basically a lot of excuses, but clearly belichick usually likes to run the ball half the time, while not being tied down to it, and I think w/injury and a couple situational things the stars just haven't aligned for that to happen recently.
I certainly wouldn't say they "don't run the ball", or "have no interest in running".
unless you expect the no huddle shotgun all year, we should see them running the ball if maroney can stay healthy.
although, maybe not so much against baltimore.......
