Cards fire coach accused of solicitation

Updated: Mar.13, 2007, 10:56 am

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- The Arizona Cardinals fired wide receivers coach Richie Anderson on Monday, four days after his arrest in a police prostitution sting operation.

Anderson, a fullback in the NFL for 13 seasons, was hired by new Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt in January.

Anderson, 35, was arrested Thursday night on an accusation of soliciting an undercover Phoenix police officer posing as a prostitute.

"I wanted a chance to review the details of the situation before making any decision," Whisenhunt said in a statement released by the team. "While it's disappointing, I've decided that this is clearly in the best interests of our team in this particular instance. Our focus is now on finding a replacement and I am confident we will be able to do that relatively soon."

Anderson played for the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys before retiring after the 2005 season. He was a 2000 Pro Bowl selection while with the Jets and holds the team record for receptions by a running back at 305.

He was assistant wide receivers and tight ends coach for the Jets last season.

Sad to see. I loved Richie when he was with the Jets - solid player and even better teammate (according to most).

Wish he exercised better judgement here...

I never understood paying a pro ho. Why can't he just go to a bar and pick up a amature ho like everybody else.

So the guy was willing to pay cash to skip all of the boring small talk and jump right into the real business. Basically, the guy has the honesty to be up-front with the woman about what he wanted, and Johnny Law is busting his chops. Who would have been hurt, the woman making more in a night than I make in a week?

Yeah, GB all those rich Phoenix ho's. :banned:

Dang it seemed he was moving up the coaching ladder in the NFL fairly quickly

Well, he really seemed to be a good guy when he was on the Jets. For his sake I hope he's earned the right to get a second chance and he'll coach elsewhere.

While it seems obvious that players get many second chances, I'm not sure how the NFL teams react to coaches mistakes.

How hard is it to get laid as an athlete?

5 minutes of small talk at the hotel bar?

Very poor judgement. You'd think a guy with a head that big would be smarter.

I never understood why prostitution was made illegal, to be honest. What gives the government the right to say "No, you CANNOT have sex with that person unless you get to know them well first!"

I agree it shouldn't be illegal if your 18 or older. My problem is ,are these johns that pathetic that they can't go out and get it free. I mean, if I felt anybody deserved money it would be me. If your paying your self- esteem must be sh it.
