Baby Boomers: Worst generation ever! (1 Viewer)

Pretty sure they were, man. Not all of course. But baby boomers clearly went Trump. Gotta imagine more than a few are reformed hippies.
Yea they reformed into the modern Democratic Party along with the anti war movement.

My parents (Boomers) laid out a game plan for me for my early years.  While perfect in their intentions, It wont end up right for our generation. Boomers stay in jobs too long and millennials have more paper degrees. Gen X is ####ed

Gen X is definitely stuck in the middle.  We're the smallest (except in the pants amirite?), we are the bridge generation from rotary phones to apps to find ballcream, and we had a lot of influence from the greatest generation (our grandparents).  We are the most cynical but I also think there is a lot of built-in common sense with us, and we understand both the boomers and millennials even though we don't always think much of them.  To me Gen X is by far the most interesting generation, it hasn't always been easy but it's pretty much always been interesting.  I can't imagine not understanding the beauty of four channels via rabbit ears, cars that break down after 30k miles, stories at the DAV of WWII, and fist fighting.

I think the early Baby Boomers are ok, the ones closer to Gen X too, but the ones born in the 50s mailed it in IMO.  Trying not to generalize but I saw a lot of that generation just putting it on cruise control because they thought they had it made, and then we had to clean up that mess of disco and de-industrialization.

   In a way I think a degree in personnel management is going to be the sweet spot in several years.

This is totally on point.

These generalizations kill me. Born in 59 so I guess I am one of the ones that mailed it in.

Paid my own way through 4 years of college, have been working continuously since 1976, married to the same women for 34+ years, raised 3 kids, helped them through college, and they all have decent jobs.  If I am lucky I'll work another 10 years so will have paid into SS for 50 years without taking a dime.  Most of my friends around my age are in similar situations.

Not sure what we should have done differently that would please the Gen Xers and Millennials but I do apologize.

At least Baby Boomers produced the best music...

How about not running up pensions so extreme that companies and governments almost go bankrupt, not polluting the planet so badly that coastal cities will shortly disappear, demonizing weed to the point where its still not legal, and worst of all, thanks a lot for giving women the right to vote.  Real genius move that one.

Millennials are dumb.  The boomers made sure of it by cutting/mucking with education.  We can hold them off.  I figure I have to support my kids to at least some small degree until they're into their 30's though, and that's OK.

Who knows what the damage is going to be in a few years though, we're probably equally screwed, and we'll have to work together.

I truly feel lucky to have been born in a time that directly straddled such different ways of life.  We took typing class in high school yet now computers are second nature.  We hid in the closet to get some privacy while talking to our girlfriends on our corded phones but now smart phones are a breeze for us.  We had to watch scrambled tv porn as a teen and now, well we don't.  We are the straddle generation.

You my ifriend, are what we call an "outlier"

Boomers decided that healthcare and education isn't something you do because it's right, you do it because you can make a #### ton of money doing it and in the process protect your own self by limiting access.  That's really how they will be remembered.

Boomers really took capitalism to the next level.  It does make life pretty simple when everything around you can be explained by someone else's bottom line.

I thought companies offered these pensions?  How can you blame the employees when the head of companies and elected officials had no foresight? No employee/person after working 25-30 or however many years is going to say "That pension that was agreed on is a little too high IMO...lets cut it in half so the 22 year old starting out will have some in 30 years"  Don`t hate the player..hate the game.

Also "The Silent Generation" was the one who screwed up and allowed women to vote. If not for them they would still be barefoot in the kitchen...but then I would never get a chunk of my wife`s big pension.

Don't try to confuse the issue with facts my friend.

Baby boomers are leeches on society but i still cant get past the millennial's entitled attitude. I'm "lucky" enough to manage 50-60 people at a time through a diverse range of ages. I've never seen anything like the 20 somethings. Getting them to do anything is like pulling teeth. They truly believe you are lucky to have them. Im painting with a broad brush, obviously not all. A few are fabulous people and workers. But as a whole, my god. The generation of coddling, political correctness and your feelings matter above all else and it shows.

Explain to me how a person that has paid into SS their entire working lives and not gotten a dime in return are leeches.

I'm at the back end of the Gen X (sometimes called "Carter kids" born 76-80).

This transition started during our college years.  I went from knowing the Dewey Decimal system and using encyclopedias my senior year in HS to doing all of my research for my 400 level courses online in college.

By the time I entered the work force, we had cell phones and I was the only one in the office that knew how to do online searches and work with Excel documents.

Medicare wasn't designed to keep people alive as long as scientifically possible regardless of cost.  Social Security wasn't designed as an early retirement program.

Unfortunately, the country will continue to rack up ridiculous amounts of debt though because these programs can't be fixed until the Baby Boomers die off.  Good ####### riddance.  What was paid in was never enough to offset costs like this.

As a Millenial myself (just barely), you may want to blame those late Baby Boomers, early Gen-Xers for that.

Baby Boomers didn't create these programs.  Most of the people that have benefited the most from Medicare and SS were born in the 20s, 30s and early 40s.   Baby Boomers have been paying into these programs their entire working life and now you want to pull the plug on them when they enter into them.  Cool.

Tell you what:  pay me back all of the money I've put into SS + interest and you can get rid of it.    I have no problem at all with that but I have a feeling not having SS will hurt the Gen Xers and Millenials a lot more than it will me.

Actually most of these folks had the decency to die before they hit 70.  It's your selfish generation that clings on to life for 80+ years and is draining the system.

Even though I'm early 75, I spent about eight years in college so I feel you.  When I got to college in 94 we were using word processors, pay phones, and film.  By the time I left in 02, we had Windows 98, Cellies and digital cameras.

The worst part of college in the 90's was the girls baggie clothes and flannels.  By the time I left they were just starting to dress like Whores.  ?

These are great programs. Unfortunately they will be long gone by the time we are of age thanks to the Wall Street generation.

Yep, I went to URI from '89-94 and there were tons of hot chicks but they were wearing flannels and overalls.  Horrible time to be in college.
