Babysitting Pay (1 Viewer)

"They" = who?

when I was like 10... in the 70s... a neighbor paid me $2/hour for a couple hours to watch their sleeping baby while they went to a party at my parents house. Seemed low to me... as a 10 year old... in the 70s.
I enjoy (and trust) those making 70% under minimum wage with my kids

Does that include dinner and transportation for her too?
Not transportation - I'll ask if she wants anything to eat, but she typically declines.

She really does an amazing job with the cleaning too. I want the kids out cold when she gets there bc she goes hard at the cleaning. Worth every penny IMO.

That's awesome. Our NYU girls make more of a mess than clean up. But they all live in the hood so no cab needed. I leave 20$ for dinner, which they usually don't use. When we used Trinidad or Bangladeshi women when #1 son was a baby, the $20 for dinner was used, and it would be a $30-40 cab ride on top of that. Always felt it was $50 before we even hit the door.

They as in 16 year olds that live in Ohio, and want easy money.

That seems an awful rate even for Ohio. And they clean?  Look at it this way, how much is a maid service?  Way more then 3 an hour.  Heck id just stay home and get the house cleaned for 3 an hour.

I pay the college kid withbhwr own car (and a pair of jugs) $15-$20 an hour and I pay the high school kid that my wife has to give a ride home $12-$15 an hour.

sometimes we buy an extra desert if we are out to eat.   We also buy dinner (Pizza).

If we're out, I'll check in on it to see if the kids are sleeping. If they aren't, I can quickly see why not. Do you ever call your sitter to check in?

How old are your kids?
Kids are 3 and 5.

No, I never call to check in. She will call us if there is a problem.

See, we love and care deeply for our babysitter. She is a friend, and a kickass young lady. I wouldn't insult her by bombarding her with "check-in" calls and surveillance videos.

No they don't clean, they're just there to watch the kids, we usually have them in their PJs.  The babysitter watches them for usually an hour then puts them to bed.  Like I said never had babysitter complain and we even ask them what rate they charge,  before we use them.

So on a night you go out for 4 hours you hand her $12? I mean you actually giver her $1 bills? You don't round up at least.  I think your are joking because this is just to low.

Yeah, that's silly.

Our girls are 4 and 2 and we pay ~$15 an hour for the two.

We have a babysitting co-op in our neighborhood with 10 families in it. We all watch each other's kids, for free. You earn points by sitting for others that you can then use for sits for your kids.  Works very well, except for a Saturday night when a lot of people have plans.

Sure, it might not be the most economically efficient system (I make more than $15/hr, thankfully), but I know all those parents personally, and it fosters local community.  We all live within walking distance from each other.

No I give here 26.  We have 5 kids and give $2 for gas money.

My brothers live in Columbus and they're amazed at what we pay for babysitting.  We're appalled at what they pay.

No shtick at all.   In capable of that.
ah. I read that as "Im capable of that". would make more sense.

but hey. if you actually have a live person who will look after 5 (...  ... ) kids for what is essentially a slap in the face, payment-wise- congrats.

$15 per hour for 3 kids unless we're looking at more than 4 hours.  Our sitter was willing to drop her rate to $10 after the first $60.  I'll kick her some extra $ if we come later than anticipated.
