Ballard vs. Celek going forward (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
as an owner of a TE with a week 11 bye, i'm looking to grab my fill in now to secure a decent option. my waiver has ballard and celek as my top choices. i have manningham, and it just so happens nyg plays phi week 11. out of these two guys, which do you like and does having manningham effect your choice?

I think you should go with Antonio Gates. I'm not sure what kind of league LittlePhaty plays in, but there should be plenty of options better than Celek.

You should consider Tony Gonzalez as well.

Woah, Dennis pitta is available? I change my mind, he's the obvious pickup. Are you in a 2 team league or something? There is no reason that Pitta should be on any waiver wire.

Ballard over Celek and it's not close.
I agree. Celek is just not an option in that offense, aside from last week. Eli historically seems to look for his TEs in the passing game quite a bit as well. Shockey and Boss were fairly successful in NY.

and the game before last week.... upward trend?
Maybe. I guess I just dont see there being enough consistent touches/targets for him to be anything more than a bye week filler. With Vick, mccoy, djax, maclin and avant getting a lot of looks/opportunities every week, whats left for celek? Just my opinion though.

you guys got me curious so I looked into it.Past two games Celek has lead the team in targets with 9 each game.

He's also tied in highest red zone targets for anyone not named McCoy with 2.

Seems like something might be finally clicking for Celek and Vick, I'd keep an eye on this if you don't want to stash him just yet.

The Eagles have been going to 3 step drops and get the ball out quick due to the sack fest of Vick in the first half of the year. Makes sense the TE is going to get some looks.

I grabbed Celek as my #1 WW priority this week. (already own Ringer). 9 targets on the past 2 games plus more emphasis on the run. I live in PHL area, and believe Reed has gone to more of a ball control offense as we saw on Monday night. He has made changes on both sides of the ball to deal with his issues early in the season

Uncharacteristic for Reed, however given the number of mistakes that Vick was making early,, it makes a lot of sense. I believe we will continue to see this during second half of the season... If so, Celek could be a TE1 down the stretch.. Potentially even a Mid-high end TE1

With Gresham being a question mark for this weekend (and our lineups being locked after the first kickoff), I decided to drop him for Celek. Probably not a smart move long term, but my weekly starter is typically Greg Olsen anyway.

I don't think Celek keeps putting up games like last week, but he has had 9 targets in his last two games, which is pretty nice for a TE. I do like Ballard quite a bit going forward, and probably would have grabbed him over Celek if he was available in my league.

For a week 11 bye replacement, I think you have to go with Ballard. They are playing Philly who have terrible linebackers and an elite secondary. If they want to pass, the TEs will be involved.

Bump. These guys are still both playing at a high level. How do we feel about them now. I'm curious about the week 11 match-up as well. A lot of Jimmy Graham owners will be.

Anyone think that when Phi plays NYG that Celek will return to his role as a blocker? he played well against Dallas and Chi, both good defenses but the Giants have given Vick fits the past 2 years.
