Baltimore at Pittsburgh (1 Viewer)

I think they probably had about the same chance of making the FG as picking up the 1st down. Difference being if you make the FG the game is over whereas if you get the 1st down you still have to score.
How many 50 yarders have been made in that stadiums history? How many into the wind?

WITH SCOBEE???????

No.....odds of hitting that FG were MUCH less than odds of converting a 4th and short

Looked pretty good at 52 yards there.

But you're right, Michael Vick's pinpoint accuracy was probably a high percentage bet.
Scobee is not Tucker, and he had JUST missed two straight kicks from closer than that.
He missed both combined by about an inch, and with PLENTY of distance.

He's a long time kicker that had missed a couple. How many times do you see stories of guys missing big kicks in games and then redeeming themselves with an even longer one later? Scobee didn't just forget how to kick. He's made several 50+ yard game winners in his career and all he had to do was adjust by about a foot.
Scobee is at 62% from 50+ in his career. What do you think the probability was of them converting a 4th and 1 (assuming you can call any play you want)?
Grass. Wind. Cut those odds in half at least.

Tucker's kick longest on that field in FIVE YEARS!
In half, at least :lmao:

Jacksonville plays on grass, fyi.

For the heck of it I decided to look at what the Bengals success rate since 2001 in 50+FG at home: 9/16.

Browns: 9/12

Packers: 13/27

And a dome team - Colts: 11/19

Heinz Field is a uniquely bad location for kickers.

With how the 4th quarter went down (and how bad Scobee has looked all year), nobody should blame Tomlin for going for it. Vick made an absolutely horrific throw. If Ben was playing, the Steelers win this game by 20.

Not that it matters but my steelers Homer buddy was screaming go for it there, don't kick it, what are you doing, thank you. Then went on about how are you going to have Vick throw across his body to the right. I agree there. To the left we'd be singing a different tune IMO.

I thought it was stranger how Nantz and Simms didn't consider the history of that field (and the fact of the wind) at all in their commentary considering that I'm sure they've done a ton of games from Pittsburgh over the years.

With Vick's struggles, wonder what the Steelers would give up for Chad Henne. Their previous trade with the Jags worked out so well.

You can have Scobee back for him.
Probably the first time in a long time that Jacksonville has had something to laugh about. They really did a job on the Steelers though :lmao:
This is not true. We have plenty of laughs each Sunday.
