Bar Resuce-John Taffer (1 Viewer)

Patrick Bateman

Anyone else watch this show? This Taffer guy has some horrible ideas when it comes to reinventing failing bars. I watched an episode recently, where he turned a sports bar into a "Bacon Bar". Bacon themed bar serving all things bacon. I like bacon and all, but what a horrible idea.

I somehow came across a marathon of this while on vacation and it sucked me in like a tractor beam. It was so strange, yet I couldn't turn the channel. During a commercial, I saw they have a show with the same premise, but for gyms. That looked even worse. Might have to give it a watch.

Dude is your stereotypical New York Jackass... obnoxious as hell. Agreed his themes are pretty terrible... and quick searches on the spots he 'fixes" usually finds them either out of business or having switched back before too long.

That said... it can be mildly entertaining for brainless entertainment. Downside is in a marathon setting you start to realize how formulaic it is..

I was wondering what % of his bars failed. It is formulaic, and sponsors are taking the show over. Always pimping some premium liquor for "signature" cocktails.

I think all shows are formulaic. I mean, Kitchen Nightmares is the same show every week (except for the Amy's Bakery one), but it's still fun to watch. Has anyone seen the gym one? I'd be interested to see what changes they make to gyms. Or if the failing gyms are themed like the bars.

Oh I hear ya and don't hate it for that. I've got it on my DVR as a guilty pleasure show that the GF loves. Its just after 2-3 episodes you can start pretty much calling what he's doing to do before he does it. :)

It's annoying but I find myself watching sometimes. Kind of like Restaurant Impossible, though I enjoy RI much more.

For some reason I like watching those stupid shows late at night after the wife is in bed and I'm drinking a bourbon.

I saw the bacon one in Vegas. seemed like the switch worked. place was a disaster before.

but the guy seems kind of annoying so I didn't have any interest in watching a 2nd episode.

"I went to my friends over at [insert sponsor name] and got these lovely..."

"we have all new hardware from my friends over at..."

"these touch screen POS systems were put in by my friends at..."

suck it, Taffer.

Great show .... a bar near my house was on it....Canyon Inn.....Taffer changed name to Canyon Inn Steakhouse....and owner changed it back....but had to pay a fine I believe....
I saw that one. The owner seemed like a real #######. How's the place doing?

My ex owned a bar with her now ex husband called Marleys on the Beach (shes pretty hot)...taffer tried to save the marriage more than the bar...she said he was a #### head and only spoke to anyone in the bar when the cameras were on.

He did a bar I worked at in New Orleans a long time ago. They told him they would change the name, etc., he left town and they popped the old sign up and kept using all the new stuff he bought them.

Our favorite bar when we were in college was on this show. It had been through several ownership changes since we were in college so wasn't near the same place but was interesting watching them try to revitalize the place. The current owner appeared to be a total idiot who shouldn't own a bar and, IIRC, the place has since closed again. What they should do is go back to the formula the place had when we were in college and it was packed almost every night. LOL. But other than that episode don't really watch the show. His attitude kind of puts me off. Acts like a doosh who has to use "tough love" on the people. Typical over the top reality show drama.

Name of gym show? Feel like that's a :tfp: I'd not be able to turn away from.

Ha! Had no idea that fat slob was in my neck of the woods. I could jump in my car and I'd be there in less than 5 minutes. But.... OOPS!

Marley's Beach Club, which was featured on season 3 of Bar Rescue has closed as of November 17th. The bar was originally called Marley's On The Beach, and Bar Rescue changed the name to St. Michelle's Beach Club. The owners did not like the name, so compromised and went with a combination of the names by calling their bar Marley's Beach Club.Marley's posted the following message on their Facebook page on November 12th:

"Marleys is officially closed for good. We will still be doing our already planned events thru winter but we will not reopen next Spring. "

While some beach bars/restaurants close for the offseason, Marley's will be closing for good. The Marley's episode first aired in September of 2013, so the decision to close comes just 2 months after the episode aired on Spike TV. This is the 2nd bar from season 3 of Bar Rescue that has closed and the Bar Rescue Update Page has been updated to show this.

ya her now ex husband was cheating on her with her friend / next door neighbor...pretty much put the nail in the coffin for the bar

this I don't get... you just got a national platform for your gooney bar and you go back to a brand that is probably in distress?

SHUT IT THE HELL DOWN

Love bar rescue, but whoever said the marathon viewing is bad for the crazy formula was exactly right. How many mortgages can be on the line in these ####ty bars anyway.

Also hate "the stress test" because when is there ever a line outside of a bar to get in, and yes if you are going to serve 75-100 people at once, no one is going to pass that stress test. Set up to fail.

That said, I think he brings a lot of interesting concepts in design and also how to target demos but that has appeared to be lessened with the success of subsequent seasons and product placement.

The new show with the restaurants was a bridge too far. Shut that the hell down.

Also think he wears a girdle.

Also sometimes he looks like a fish.

My local tavern is a finalist to be on the next season. It's a corner bar on the south side of Milwaukee. You're not going to rake money in this area. He's just doing it for the publicity.

Another local restaurant was on one of those restaurant saving shows. They told him to get rid of his fish fry. :lmao: If you don't have a fish fry in Wisconsin, you don't have a Friday night crowd. He put the fish fry on a month later and hey, free construction and publicity

Which one? Not Boots, I hope.Dudes a doosh. Can watch many on the YouTube. Kitchen nightmares, US and UK, versions are on the YouTube too.
Packy's
Why does Packy's need his help? The Bowler's Pro Shop (my kind of place since I was 5) surely brings the customers in. Tippycanoe Library closes just in time for happy hour. The bars closer to the airport taking its business? No hotels near Packy's.

This bar did that exact thing...went right back to all the old ways ...same name ...drinks ...menu ...good episode tho...has L.B as a partner ...hes the tough guy who played for the Bruins years ago...i know the waitress Stephanie ...she said even tho Taffer had good ideas the owner is to stubborn to change.

My dad used to teach at nearby Burdick School
Pretty sure my sister student taught there for a year about 15 years ago.
