Bartman tonight. Where is he? What is he doing? (1 Viewer)

If and when Cubs ever win World Series will he be forgiven?

I think it would be good schtick if he started showing up for the Cubs World Series games at Wrigley.  Based on that ESPN 30 for 30 I thought he was a finance guy and still lived in Illinois.  I thought he didn't pay for stuff with credit cards so he wouldn't get hassled.

I will say he has done a great job of laying low over the years.  I am sure the media is going all out to find him and get him to talk.

If the Cubs win I am sure that he will be forgiven by the (reasonable) Cubs fans.

If anyone thinks he needs to be forgiven, they aren't reasonable.

People are silly. Bartman wasn't responsible for costing all 8 runs in that game nor is he responsible for the Cubs not winning game 7. Let the guy live.
The Bartman stuff is massively overrated imo.  I was living blocks from Wrigley at the time and still have tons of Cubs fan friends. I don't know a single person who holds a grudge against Bartman.

Bartman may always be hated by Cubs fans, but he should be treated like a hero. One of the most endearing stories in all of sports is the Cubs futile quest to finally end their 100+ year championship drought. It's like Charlie Brown trying to win a baseball game or kick the football. How many people are going to care about horse racing next year after someone finally won the triple crown for the first time in decades (other than gamblers and the .01% who can afford to participate)?

When it finally happens for the Cubs, we'll cheer and get excited for a day or 2, but then they'll become boring or even hated like the Red Sox after they ended their drought. Something special will be forever lost.
Speaking as a Red Sox fan there is a lot of truth to this post.

I dunno.  I worked at the same company as Bartman and remember there being boatloads of security at our company HQ for a long time after the game.  The poor guy had police escorts in and out of the building due to all the death threats.

No, No, Yes.

I feel so sorry for that dude.
It is the sole reason I hope the fans of the Cubs continue to suffer no WS title. The entire thing was shameful. How about they made 6 other mistakes and maybe....just maybe the 2003 Marlins were a team of destiny. They only went into the Bronx and won the WS in game six against a dynasty named the NY Yankees.

Screw the Cubs. That Bartman Karma is alive and well.

Shame too. I love Rizzo (local boy from my suburb named Parkland, FL) and Bryant is awesome. Great team, great players. And their fan base is loyal and up until that whole Bartman thing what I thought classy and respectful.

That whole thing turned me off so bad and gave me a bad perception of the fan base. Just a horrible thing to do to one of your own. He did what any normal fan does on a foul ball. And don't even get me started on Alou's reaction. What a doosh.

I think Bartman would disagree. He life was a living hell for a long time.

No doubt, but the Bartman issue is nonetheless still "massively overrated" as I said. The notion that he is "hated by Cubs fans" as the OP stated, is false. 99% of Cubs fans either hold no grudge or don't even know who he is. If you've sat in the bleachers on a weekday afternoon at Wrigley, you'd know that most of that crowd don't remember what happened last week, much less 10 years ago.

I've seen multiple references to Goat curses this past week, but outside of this thread and that dooshnozzle behind home plate last night, I've seen no references to Bartman amongst Chicagoans.
