Baseball Christmas Gifts (1 Viewer)

Hey guys & Finless,

Are you giving any baseball related Christmas gifts? I'm looking for a good baseball related gift in the $40 range for an adult. Preferably not clothing, and either baseball related in general or Cubs related. I saw a hardcover ballpark book last night at Borders and considered that, but am looking for a few better ideas. Thanks.

How "hardcore" baseball are they? Are they within driving range of Cooperstown?

A membership to the Baseball Hall of Fame is roughly $40 per year.

I'd say fairly hardcore. Very into multiple fantasy leagues, usually gets the baseball package on tv, etc. Thanks for the idea, I'll check that out. He's in Chicago though, so that could be a problem.

2009 Ron Shandler's Baseball Forecaster, 2009 Baseball Prospectus, 2009 Bill James Handbook are all around ~$20 each. They may not all be available by Dec 25th, but they would be worth the wait for someone that takes their roto baseball seriously.

Thanks guys, great ideas.

Oso, I think at some point I'm going to get the pennant set, that is pretty cool.

I ended up going with this

The Hardball Times Annual. A hardcore fantasy player might have already ordered Shandler, the Prospectus and Baseball America, but probably not THT.

Wow, I think I might try one of those simulations, they look pretty fun.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

TGOC, assume you mean Baseball Mogul. Big fan. Been playing it for several years.

Would only add that several folks believe that Out of the Park Baseball is even better. I tried a free demo of it, but went back to Mogul, mostly because i was used to it.
You play in any online leagues? Ive only played solo before? How do you play? Just simulation?

I actually enjoy the game play as a pitcher and usually pick the pitches and pitch location in the games - although I find it quite easy when I call the pitches myself.
not online. already skirting the line with the wife, and if i did an actual league, there could be real trouble. :-)i like Mogul for the GM aspects. Drafting rookies, trading, free agents, etc. Never do pitch-by-pitch, and sometimes only do game-by-game for the playoffs. But the game is too easy, even at Mogul level. You have to create your own "rules" to play by to make it more interesting - only trade for one guy drafted high, etc. My SOP when i start a session is to dump salary, pump $ into scouting and minor league development, and hope i don't go broke before i can turn it around.
