"Baseball" hypothetical question:

If there are two strikes on you, and the pitch is a "back door slider", do you "protect" the plate or do you "swing for the fences"? Also, you've never hit against this pitcher before. While swinging for the fences could possibly result in a HR, it's always possible that you'll strike out badly and end up with odd lesions and weight loss in a few years. Protecting the plate may not result in a HR, but less chance of dying striking out. What is your play?

Protecting could result in:

1. Foul ball, restarting the process

2. Out, either by ground or air

3. Strikeout (off-chance if you're worth a damn)

4. Base hit

Going for the fences could result in:

1. Out, either by ground or air

2. Strikeout

3. Home Run

4. Foul ball

Now, assuming you're a talented player, I'd say go for the fences. Backdoor sliders right down the gully are pitches you wait months for sometimes and if you're confident in your homer abilities, by all means hack away.

Otherwise, you have to protect yourself because you may not recognize the pitch coming across the plate until too late.

What's the game situation? Score? Inning? Baserunners?
 Need to know this first.. Assuming this is really about baseball.

If it's about Otis, swing away.. we are all dying every day anyhow..
It's not about Otis, but I'm not clever enough to extend the analogy any further.
But it's an Otis-esque type situation.. Swing away dammit! You only live once.
Gets it.
