BattleBots! It's back. (1 Viewer)

Watched this with the kids, they thought it was "epic".

I'm not sure I understand the rules.  Why during the one match was the one team allowed to have a separate drone in there?
Drone was so bad it was awesome. I loved the announcers, they had some funny comments like the drone just took itself out. Too funny, also that one bot that mutilated the other one and sent shrapnel right at them. They showed the gouge in the plexi-glass right in front of them.

It was a good episode.

Like Greg said, total weight of your bots has to be under 250lb.  To win you have to incapacitate half of the other teams weight.  Most of the little bots or drones are just there to try and get in the way but most just get demolished (or they are driven by a kid to be there for fun).   The best are a spinner against a team of little crappy annoyance bots to see how far they can go.   In the preseason episode there was a team that had two bots of equal weight so you had to take out both to win.   Bronco launching the hammer head to the roof of the arena was cool.

watched last night's episode with my boy again. he has a knack for picking the winners in the matches. it was fun to see a bunch of 'bots go at it. really loved the Lockjaw-Yeti match and was surprised how it was judged.

The bot with the gold vertical spinner looks like a beast...I think it's one of the guys from the MIT group from last year...he split off to make his own bot.  The one that shot the "guns"

Was he actually shooting anything?

I think one of the hosts said it was only a distraction.

Yeah, I don't think it was....there's no way they'd let that happen right?  They didn't let a bot deploy a net last year...can't imagine they'd let shooting bullets go.

I don't see how anyone beats Minotaur. Like, I don't see how it's even theoretically possible. It's a box of armor with instant death on one side.

I have a couple rounds of golf riding on this.  I hope you're right.  It didn't seem like a tough decision to pick Minotaur at all....no brainer.  The driver is :moneybag:

Yep, that driver is so intense. He looks like Gabriel Gonzaga.
I'd like to see Tombstone vs. Minotaur. Horizontal spinner vs. vertical drum. A head to head collision may implode the battlebox. If either driver can flank the other, then it's goodnight.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this show with my 2 boys. My 6 year old is starting to built mini battlebots with Lego. Adorable.

I was depressed when minotaur went out :kicksrock:   I thought they were winning this thing for sure.  The best driver in the competition by far....not even close.

Other thread just reminded me... PLEASE replace whoever was giving Samantha Ponder those horrific hairdos for the show.

Instead of a tournament format, this year they are doing a season of head to head matchups and then the best records get into a playoff.

Just watched Ice Wave with about as complete of a dismantling of another bot as I can recall seeing.

Really would love to see some people tear apart Tombstone this year.

Tombstone is still a beast, but some of the other bots are pretty exciting.

I haven't caught an episode yet. How are they determining the head to head matchups?

Looks like it's the producers that decide them. They produce rankings after each round of fights and then from them the producers come up with next set of match ups.  Though so far it's just been one-on-one fights, it looks like they can use other formats as well (royal rumble, etc).

Seems like they are trying to include at least one heavyweight match-up of fan favorites each episode.

There was one 3-way battle so far. Each team is expected to get four matches.

Awesome show. My son and I record them and watch together. Faruq is on top of his game. “It’s robot fightin’ time!”

Watched this with the wife and 2 sons and we still love it.

The only thing that bugs me is the stupid, contrived  "villain" storyline they’re trying to force on the Tombstone owner. He’s obviously a nice, sweet old dude, but the producers are feeding him direction to act like a tough guy with bravado. At least that’s my 2 cents.

Besides that, this show is great family fun!

He seems to delight in that, especially in the fight moment. When he asks if they want more after he has beaten their bot senseless, that absolutely plays right into what they are portraying him as the villain.

Was disappointed with how little damage was done by that bot that had the saw on top he could lower on another bot.  Had someone else clamped down and all he could do was make sparks on the guy's armor.

New bot with a 5 pound projectile-built by lawyers-needs better driving and defense.
BiteForce OWNED HyperShock. The Four Horseman were lucky. I thought they should
have lost that match.  This show is hitting it's stride with a balance of drama, shtick,
and some good fights. Faruq is trying too hard but is still good.

:goodposting:

They started the battle royal by informing us that if 60% of the bots were disabled, then the multibot team would be DQ'd.  Guess they were saved by the bell somehow?

Cutting through plate takes time. Now if he had gotten into a joint or other weak point...

Another new episode.  This one had a saw bot that actually did some damage with his saw.  Managed to cut partway through the clamper of his opponent.

A bigger deal with him though, was he had a really long scoop that helped keep the opponent from getting to him.  I wonder if someone will try something like that for dealing with Tombstone.  Get in underneath his spinner and then push him around and let his own kinetic energy damage him.

Yeah, Four Horseman lost power in two bots 4-5 seconds before the other bot with about 15-20 seconds left in the match.
The refs diddn't have a count out for either team.

It could be that the wedge bot is heavier than the other two. Didn't look it but who knows.

And the first bot sporting a cannon was a big dud...

Wonder if the rules didn't let them shape the payload to have a point, or if they just weren't very smart about it.

Just poor design all around, IMO.  That projectile isn't going to do anything to the armor on most of the bots and it is one shot and done.

It's a gimmick, and I don't think they really intend to win with it...but it could lead to future innovations in long range attacks that could be interesting.

On the replay they showed the projectile ricocheting right back as soon as it hit the front of the other bot. It was worthless.

I would have preferred that they hit one of the minibots with it instead and scored a destructive blast on them.  They went after the big strong one with it and as you say, was quite useless with it.

Great great show.  Daughter and I love it.

I don't think I've ever seen a bot so completely destroyed so quickly as Lockjaw was in that last fight. :lmao:
