This seemed sort of weird.

Jim McMahon quarterbacked the Bears to their first Super Bowl win 21 years ago. He won't be watching them try for a second title.

"I don't care," McMahon said Tuesday in Chicago, where he attended an event promoting a program called "Valentines For Vets And Soldiers," where elementary school students send homemade cards and letters to soldiers and veterans. "I haven't watched the game in 10 years."
 J

Yeah I heard him on Dan Patrick last week. The guy could care less about sports as a whole. He is very pro military and has been to Afghanistan many times, most recently for New Years

Many athletes never grow up and move on with their lives.

Although I find a bit odd he is not interested in his old team it seems McMahon is one of the few that does not hold on to the "jock" heritage. For some that is all they will ever have.

That's correct. Being a Chicagoan, I've heard many interviews/reports/etc. about Jimmy Mac - and generally he doesn't follow sports much. Also correct on the visitations to the troops. As a Bear fan, his lack of interest doesn't bother me. I appreciate what he did in 1985 and him being indifferent now doesn't change any of that - nor does it tarnish his accomplishments in any way in my mind.

I say good for him for having a political view and a strong opinion. I'm all for him standing up and supporting our military and doing something constructive other than transporting drugs, smoking crack, robbing businesses, beating women and killing. Way to go Jim!!!!

Agreed. Seems like he has different priorities. I can't bash him for supporting our troops and not caring a whole lot about what at the end of the day is a pretty meaningless game.

Still my all-time favorite player and one of the biggest reasons I became a Bears fan. I was only 7 or 8 then but I remember thinking McMahon was one of the coolest guys ever at that time. I loved how he always wore the headbands with logos on them and got in trouble. I'll never forget when he wore a headband with Rosell written on it. I think it was the NFC championship game. What a player and a leader.

As far as Jim not pulling for the Bears or even being interested, I'd be lying if I said it didn't bother me a little. I mean this guy is one of the main reasons I started liking the Bears and now he doesn't even care they're in the Super Bowl. So yes, I'm a little let down after hearing that. But it has more to do with me than him.

That being said, I don't see anything wrong about him not caring. As a rabid Bears fan, I could never imagine not caring but Jim's always been a little different than the rest of us. And that's fine. If that's how he wants to live his life, who am I to say there's anything wrong with it? However, It sure would be cool if I knew he was pulling for them. I love McMahon. Always have and always will. :loco:

100% correct.Mac doesn't care about sports - at all. He's seen Rex play about 1/2 a quarter. When asked about him, he said no clue, I've seen him take 5 snaps. You can tell by the way he talks in interviews, the guy has things he cares about far more then sports/football. Which is cool. He's a unique guy, it's funny as hell, I don't really care if he follows the Bears. Easily one of my all time favorite guys. He's just a character pure and simple.

If he doesn't care, why does it seem like he's being interviewed ABOUT sports and the Bears all the time? :loco: :goodposting:
Is it his fault if he is interviewed about the Bears or football in general? He will promote his support of the troops and he will support his business ventures, which is smart. The guy has no clue about the game. If you ask him to name 5 players on this current team he would have no idea. He will attend charity golf events hosted by Mike Ditka and they always ask him the same question about his lack of keeping up with the game. He has said that he lost interest in the game ad nausea....

I heard this interview on Dan Patrick. He didn't even know the name of the Bears QB. It was funny. But yeah, just sounds like he's moved on, and he doesn't care bout the NFL anymore.

McMahon has 2 Super Bowl rings, and if he is OK with leaving the game and moving on towards other things in his life, then good for him.

I didn't know that he was traveling and supporting the troops like that. Very cool. I'm sure it has meant a lot to some of them he has met.

Heard on Mike and Mike this morning that McMahon will be live on their show tomorrow. :hey: Should be interesting.J

Free air time during Super Bowl week to spred his message about the troops maybe? Not a bad idea. I sometimes miss the show but I'll listen tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up.
