Bears name RB Jones starter week 1 (1 Viewer)

As a Jones owner in every league, I\'d just like to say that I\'m looking for a huge season from TJ, and I think it\'s obvious to everyone that Benson is a talentless hack who won\'t see the field this year.
:lmao:

Just got back from my draft. Get this...

I walk in and they ask who is keeping which players, yadda yadda. I state that I am going to throw Benson back. With the 41st pick that I could have kept Benson with, I grab DeShaun Foster. The 4th round comes and goes, and nobody selects Benson. I feel vindicated, as if I made the right move.

The 5th round comes and goes, and nobody selects Benson.

The 6th round comes and goes, and nobody selects Benson.

In the 7th round, I just had to do it. I had to.

I was losing sleep for the past two weeks wondering whether I should keep him for the FOURTH round price...... there was no way I was going to pass him up in the 7th. And now I can still make him one of my keepers for the next few years if he ever shows his vast potential.

Some of you may have noticed that I took criticism of Benson a little harshly in the past.

Well, it was because I really needed him last year... I was looking for a huge rookie season out of him, and he let me down in a big way. Due to injuries and having excellent QBs & WRs, by the end of last season I was counting on the likes of Frank Gore and Mewelde Moore because Benson had been so disappointing. :X

Coming into this year, I really wanted to believe that my patience with him would pay off. But then he gets hurt, and acts like a child again. But here are the reasons that I'm going to be more mellow about the situation this year. First, I got him at a price I can live with, even if he fails to meet expectations again. Secondly, I made sure that I am deep at RB so that I don't need his production. Instead, it would be icing on the cake. Along with Benson and Foster, I grabbed Edge, Rhodes, T. Bell, C. Brown, Cobbs and Morency. Between all those guys, I should be able to piece together two nice starters every week, plus we get to play a flex spot.

Also nabbed Holt & R. Moss in the 2nd & 3rd. I won't mention the QBs I ended up with. :bag:

So I am back on board the Benson train, albeit with more reasonable expectations this time.

Oh, and T.J. went six picks after I took Benson. I had no opportunity for the handcuff. Keep in mind that this is a dynasty league. Even the hardcore Jones supporters would probably have to admit that Benson carries much more long-term value, based on his potential and the five year age difference.
6-team league?

Bears RB Benson still not 100 percent

LAKE FOREST, Ill. ? Although the job belonged to him just over a month ago, Cedric Benson insists that he isn't upset about Thomas Jones starting Sunday's season opener in Green Bay.

"I accept it," said Benson, who is expected to be in uniform and ready to play against the Packers after missing all four preseason games with a shoulder injury sustained Aug. 4 in practice.

"I'm sure time will work itself out. I don't know how it's going to turn out. But I'm not mad about anything or upset about anything. I'm just really happy my shoulder feels a lot better and I can get back to playing."

Lovie Smith has been as elusive as he hopes his running backs will be on the field when asked how he intends to divide playing time at the position. The Bears coach is simply thrilled to have options after Benson and Jones missed significant portions of training camp with injuries.

"We're as strong as we've been is how I'm going to (look at it)," Smith said. "I feel real good about it. Thomas is our starter and we're going to go from there. Cedric hasn't played in a while ? we'll just see how that plays out. We would like that position to be as strong as possible."

Benson isn't sure how much he'll play Sunday, only that he will see some action. "I don't know what they've got planned or how it's going to go," he said. "But I expect to get out there."

Benson also missed the entire preseason last year as a rookie due to a contract impasse that didn't end until Aug. 28 when he finally agreed to a five-year deal.

"It would definitely have helped if I did get some carries in the preseason," he said. "But I thought about this last year when I was coming in and the season was already going. I was just getting thrown into the game and I thought it was a pretty neat challenge."

Benson reported that his shoulder "feels real good" but conceded that it may not be 100 percent by Sunday. But battling through pain won't be anything new for the fourth overall pick in the 2005 draft, who played with cracked ribs, turf toe and a pinched nerve in his neck at Texas.

so after the first week against GB how comfortable do people feel about Jones keeping the starting gig all season?

Jones 21 for 63 for 3 ypc, 1 catch 0 yds, 0 TDs

Benson playing cleanup at the end of the game averaged about the same ypc.

3 YPC is not going to be good enough to keep Benson on the bench. I think we'll need to see what happens week 2.

I think that it was pretty obvious that when the game meant something, Jones was carrying the rock. When the game was no longer in doubt, Benson was in there to get some work...and more importantly, save the wear and tear on Jones.I believe that as long as the Bears are winning, Jones will get the lion's share of the carries, and all of the important ones. IE: the goal line carries.

Pretty clear: Jones's job until he's hurt or doesn't perform or somehow the team takes downward spiral and they just decide to go to Benson.

Benson barely got any playing time. Im a Benson owner but lets be serious here this game did nothing to give Benson extra time.

Another 3 ypc (under actually) performance for Jones. The good news is that in a tight game, Benson didn't get 1 carry. Jones seems very well entrenched as the starter, but is he going to be any good this year fantasy wise?

He's horrible so far -- you can only use the excuse that people are stacking the line against the run for so long - he's got better QB play than last year and he was much more effective then. He's not starter material at this point in fantasy leagues, will that turn around or are we looking at a guy who's gonna grind out 50-75 yds every game?

I have the bum as well as Benson. Jones wasn't starter material in AZ nor TB, only one year in Chicago but I bought into the hype! Shame on me! Bad thing is I had to play him today for fear that A.Green wouldn't be playing or at leat not near 100%.

Obviously it doesn't matter..

This thread is nothing more than a pissing match between Jones and Benson owners.

The Bears are 3-0. THAT is all I give a rat's rooty tooty about.

Benson didn't even see the field today. That should speak volumes about what the coaching staff thinks about him picking up blitzes.
