Bears offense (1 Viewer)

First half of the year produced great stats for Grossman and Berrian with solid stats from TJ. What is the consensus on the Bears O as the year goes on. Anyone think they can keep up the pace? The schedule looks very good even though the weather will play a factor soon.

My predictions:

Grossman - finishes strong - medicore starter/very good backup - top 12-14 QB

TJ - picks up the pace and finishes very strong - another decent #1 but very good #2 - top 12-15 RB

Berrian - Keeps up the pace and cements himself as a very good #2 WR - top 12-15 WR

Mushy - does just enough to be a solid #3 WR top 30-35 WR

Gould - finishes as a top 5 kicker.

Thoughts out there?

Grossman crashes back to earth. TJ as you said. Berrian slowed slightly, with Mushy becoming more of the focus as they reign Grossman in. Gould still solid.

What makes you say Grossman crashes? Besides the Arizona game he looked all world - and that schedule is not exactly daunting.

This is a pretty popular misconception around here, but if you go back and look at the Week 3 game against Minnesota you'll see that Grossman had a very poor outing. After the game Darren Sharper commented that the Minny D should have had 5 picks, and he was right. He should have known- he dropped a sure int for a touchdown deep in Chicago territory. A few quarters later Grossman made up for Sharper's mistake by throwing one to Antoine Winfield at the Chicago 7. This was not the first sign of his poor decision making skills either. Week 1 against Green Bay he was picked once, should have been picked off a few more times, and is to date the only QB not to throw at least two TD's against the leagues worst pass D. The Arizona game would make three games where Grossman has been less than adequate, from a real football perspective, and a couple of those games he was downright putrid. That translates to him batting .500. I think his decision making ability is questionable and this is magnified greatly when he is pressured. Fortunately for him, a majority of the time he has all day to throw as the Chicago O line is quite good and they haven't played many great pass rushing teams. This will change weeks 9-13 and it would not surprise me in the least to see Griese get the call at some point this season. For all the arguments that Grossman has not had many poor games in his career due to being injured, the inverse is true: he hasn't had that many good ones either.

I think the BEars passing game caught a lt of people by surprise by throwing the ball rather than committing to the run. That hasn't been their MO in the past and it always takes defensive Coordinators time to react to that.

That doesn't mean that Rexy and the offense are going to fold, but I do think it is foolish to expect them to keep up the pace they have set thusfar. I am tempering my enthusiasm.

I'm a Grossman owner in a 32 team dynasty and I'm not willing to throw in the towel on him just yet. Even in previous years you could see that the kid had what it takes to be a leader and a strong arm. His teammates love him and would follow him off a cliff. I think part of his problem recently is his confidence. He's had so much success up until that Arizona game that he's played a little more loose than usual. He's been very successful throwing the deep bowl to Berrian and the underneath stuff to Moose and Clark that he probably feels like superman at times. I think this was obvious in the Arizona game because instead of taking the underneath stuff that 'Zona was giving him, he was trying to hard to make a big play 30 or 40 yards down the field. Not to mention his O-line didn't help him out a whole lot since he was under pressure all day.Do I think he will come back down to Earth? Yes. But here's why, I think the Arizona game gave Grossman a taste of reality and I'm sure the coaches will stress to him to take what the defense gives you. I also think the cold weather will bring his stats down to a more average level as well. Not a whole lot of passing when the wind is howling and it's -20 degrees outside. Plus, I think the coaching staff might tighten the reigns on him if they clinch early to keep him fresh for playoffs.I like the kids leadership abilities and his playmaking abilities. I look forward to watching him add a new dimension to the offensive game plan for the bears. It's no longer run, run, run.

Pretty bold statement - guy was a top 5 QB in my league until Az and the bye. Its one thing to say he will slow down the pace - its another to say he could be benched! He has SF at home this week - I can see a return to his excellent numbers giving the passing game some confidence. I think he is ranked far too low this week - I look for a big Grossman/Berrian game.

Bump for post week review:

Grossman - looked fantastic and had huge numbers this week - cemented in the top 8 in both of my leagues. Guess Griese stays on the bench!

TJ - 100 yds and a score - very nice week

Benson - I actually started him in one league with bye issues - not great yds but had a TD

Mushy - TD and yds

D Clark - monster game

Berrian - overlooked - bad game but not too many deep balls playing that far ahead

Gould - over 10 pts again

Nice rebound from Az debacle - another good matchup with Miami at home. Should keep up the pace for at least another week!

I guess these threads will be here until week 14 or so...

Someone might want to tell some people the Bears O is for real.
