TEXAS LONGHORNS

QB - Vince Young, Chris Simms, Chance Mock

RB - Priest Holmes, Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, Vince Young ;)

FB - Will Matthews, Ahmard Hall

WR - Roy Williams, Sloan Thomas

TE - David Thomas, Bo Scaife

OL - Mike Williams, Leonard Davis, Dan Neil, Derrick Dockery, Jonathan Scott

PK - Phil Dawson

DL - Casey Hampton, Shaun Rogers, Rod Wright, Cedric Woodard, Marcus Tubbs

LB - Derrick Johnson, D.D. Lewis, Marcus Wilkins

DB - Nathan Vasher, Quentin Jammer, Michael Huff, Cedric Griffin

Depth at QB & WR are sketchy, largely due to Texas' history of emphasis away from the passing game. But VY & Roy are solid.
Cory Redding would definitely get some snaps at DE for this team.

Dude that said Larry Johnson...are you kidding me? C'mon dude, PSU can play with most of these schools. See Below...

QB - Kerry Collins, Micheal Robinson (although he's a WR/RB now I guess)

RB - LJ, Kenny Watson, and Kijana Carter is likey going be be rostered some time this year for depth.

FB - Omar Easy, Richie Anderson almost makes the list...But if Vinny...then Richie.

WR - Bobby Engram, Joe Jurevicius, Eddie Drummond (KR as well), Bryant Johnson, Ethan Kilmer

TE - Kyle Brady, John Gilmore, Matt Kranchick, Isaac Smolko, Tony Stewart

OL - Jeff Hartings, Tyler Lenda, Kareem McKenzie, Tyler Reed

K - Robbie Gould, John Hall

DL - Anthony Adams, Courtney Brown, Tamba Hali, Michael Haynes, Tyoka Jackson, Jimmy Kennedy, Brandon Noble, Scott Paxson, Matt Rice

LB - Lavar Arrington, Brandon Short, (Oh, wait till the NFL get's a load of Poz next year!)

Secondary - Rich Gardner, Chris Harrell, Kim Herring, Bhawoh Jue, Calvin Lowry, Dave Macklin, Anwar Phillips, Brian Scott, Alan Zemaitis

Might not have the names that the U, and some other schools have. But we'd compete!

WE ARE PENN STATE!
And apparently you are also the University of Wisconsin.

Not bad and agree with most of what you said. I think you are being too kind to Fla LBs and TEs however. TEs, I think you kind of admit. LBs however I guess maybe you just don't see them as good as I think most do (or me). I think Vilma nad Williams are studs.
Yeah, I was pretty kind to Florida TEs, mostly because I ignored Winslow. With Winslow out of the mix, it's Shockey > Troupe > Kinney > Franks, and I really think that Troupe has a chance to catch Shockey. Kid's going to be a stud. When you add Winslow, though, that definitely tips the balance in Miami's favor. At linebacker, though... I'd definitely take Mike Peterson over Ray Lewis at this point in time. Lewis is a first-ballot HoFer, but at this point, he's done. He can't fight through any blockers at all, he's slower in coverage. He's still a solid MLB, but he's a lot closer to average. I still have lasting memories of that game against KC where he was "miked up", and they showed him constantly complaining on the sidelines yelling "They're double-teaming me, man!", yelling at his teammates for allowing the Chiefs to double-team the Great And Mighty Ray Lewis, but then they showed film from the actual game and KC never got more than a single guard on him. If I were on the Ravens, I'd slap Lewis and tell him to pay attention to reality rather than chastising your teammates for your flights of fantasy.I also have to admit, while I'm impressed by Vilma's numbers, I don't think he's a stud. I think he's the only good player on an otherwise horrible defense, and as a result he puts up ridiculous numbers. I think Pat Tillman was the same way- I don't think he was ever perceived as one of the best safeties in the league, but he got over 200 tackles one year because he was the only good player (i.e. he got a disproportionate tackle share), and because the Cardinals defense was bad (i.e. faced a lot of plays, couldn't get the other team off the field). Also, Arizona's offense was bad (just like the NYJ offense), which means other teams spent a lot of time killing clock (plays ended in-bounds and resulted in tackles) instead of saving clock (plays ending out-of-bounds and not resulting in tackles). I think he's a very good defender who just happens to look great because of the perfect situation (bad teammates, bad defense, bad offense). Like I said, I call Peterson + Davis vs. Lewis + Vilma a wash.Regarding D.J. Williams... I definitely think he's a stud, too. I think he could be one of the best weakside LBs in the league, and I think he's a man among boys. At the same time, I'm in a unique position, because I'm a Denver fan who lives in Florida (and whose friends are all Dolphin fans), so I saw pretty much every snap of Crowder and Williams' rookie seasons- and I have to say, they looked pretty darn similar. Both guys are incredible disruptive forces. Both guys blow up a ton of plays behind the line of scrimmage. Williams tends to be a bit better in run support, but Crowder's a bit better in coverage. Williams is a better athlete, but Crowder has better instincts. Williams is more disciplined, but Crowder is more disruptive. I hate to make silly comparisons at this stage of his career, but Crowder at times looked downright Seau-like out there. I'd love to have either of them on my team. We'll have to wait to see if last year was a fluke for Crowder, but like I said, their rookie seasons looked remarkably similar.

Oh, by the way, I used Chris Smith's awesome OL rankings and borrowed the grades, then picked the top 5 OLs from each school so we can finally compare that position. Chris Smith is awesome.

Florida-

T Max Starks: B (16 career starts, 16 starts last year, 4 false starts, 0 holds, 8.5 sacks allowed)

G Cooper Carlisle: B (22 career starts, 16 starts last year, 3 false starts, 1 hold, 1.5 sacks allowed)

C (no starting NFL centers- we'd use rookie Mike Digory)

G Zach Pillar: B (55 career starts, 16 starts last year, 2 false starts, 2 holds, 4 sacks allowed)

T Kenyatta Walker: B (70 career starts, 16 starts last year, 6 false starts, 3 holds, 5.5 sacks allowed)

Key Backup: Tackle Mike Pearson

Miami-

T Bryant McKinnie: A (55 career starts, 16 starts last year, 2 false starts, 0 holds, 5 sacks allowed)

G (no starting NFL guards)

C (no starting NFL centers)

G (no starting NFL guards)

T Vernon Carey: B (16 career starts, 14 starts last year, 2 false starts, 1 hold, 3 sacks allowed)

Key Backup: Tackle Eric Winston (rookie).

None of the other linemen you listed even made Chris Smith's list, so I'm not even going to count them- they're either out of football, or buried behind at least 4 backups on the depth chart.

Miami definitely has a better pair of bookend tackles, but the fact that they don't have a single Guard or Center- even buried somewhere on a depth chart- is a huge problem. Florida can fill out 4 of the 5 offensive line positions with players who are not only NFL starters, but SOLID NFL starters, even if they don't have a star on the line. This looks like a clear

Huge Edge: Florida

And with that, I'm confident in saying that the All-NFL Florida squad would not only beat the All-NFL Miami squad (a battle that would be won in the trenches- can you imagine Warren/Kearse/Brown/Carter against that OL?), I'd actually go so far as to say that the All-NFL Florida squad could win the NFC North. They'd have one of the best defenses in the league, and their offense would actually look a lot like Chicago's, only with better WRs and TEs and worse RBs (and a pretty comparable O-Line, as long as Digory can keep up).

Edit: This is a great thread. I love these sort of games that are like "Fantasy Football" with real NFL-type teams. :)

Edit2: Miami would kill Florida in the "best fantasy football team" category, though.

Kerry Collins most certainly wasn't a bust. He wasn't a top-10 QB, but he was above-average, solid, and made it to the superbowl. Also, I'd say it's a bit too early to declare Courtney Brown a bust, too. He didn't look spectacular, but he definitely looked very solid last year in Denver. Let's remember that last year was his first moderately healthy season in a long time (although, in all fairness, he's injured again so far in camps, so it's really becoming epidemic here).
