The 2001 Miami Hurricanes - WOW (1 Viewer)

Granted I'm young, but I can't recall when a college team had this much successful talent on its roster at once. Want these guys on your teams now?

RB - Willis McGahee, Clinton Portis, Frank Gore, Najeh Davenport

WR - Reggie Wayne, Andre Johnson

TE - Kellen Winslow, Jeremy Shockey

IDPs

DL - Vince Wilfork, Jerome McDougle

LB - Jonathan Vilma, DJ Williams

DB - Sean Taylor, Ed Reed, Mike Rumph, Phillip Buchanon

Just for good measure, Bryant McKinnie was also on this team. Fill in the holes with just average players and I swear this team would contend for at least the NFC Championship.

funny I was just thinking about that team as I watch the game. I also think that was the most talented college team I have even seen.

Pretty amazing. But Reggie Wayne wasn't on that team. He graduated in 2000 along with Santana Moss. Both just missed the 2001 team by 1 year.

Pretty amazing. But Reggie Wayne wasn't on that team. He graduated in 2000 along with Santana Moss. Both just missed the 2001 team by 1 year.
That team must have had Edge too. So what? Subtract Winslow and Gore for Edge and Wayne to get the 2000 team?

No, they didn't have Edge. And I'm simply pointing out that your original post is incorrect. The 2001 did NOT have Reggie Wayne.ETA---A lot more difference in that 2000 team than what you're trying to say.GoreMcGaheeSean TaylorWilforkWinslowRolleParrishThose guys were all freshman on the 2001 team and weren't on the 2000 team. Thus, the 2001 was more stacked than the 2000 team.

Gotcha. My bad. They could still beat my college team :lmao:

Besides QB and some holes in the O-line and the shortage of 1 starting-caliber OLB, this is a pretty solid NFL team.

Ed Reed was seriously still there in 2001?Either way, that has got to be the most stacked college team, looking back or not, Ive ever seen - Reg Wayne or notI guess it makes sense the U isnt on that level anymore, but how did they dropoff that fast?!?The U is an ACC afterthought right now,and needs big help since theyre not in the Big East anymore to regain their post

Im pretty sure thats the DJ Williams for DEN, no? you dont consider him a starting caliber LB?

This is kinda funny to me, only because Im sure Edge was a rookie in 99, and I consider Wayne to be a good bit younger than him somewhat, but apparently hes only 1 yr younger or soI totally remember seeing McGahee blow his knee out when I was in a hotel lobby after my first Phish show about 6 years ago (early 2002) is my estimate, yet theres only 1-2 yr difference between them.....crazy

I was referring to McIntosh. I guess he's a capable starter, he's just gotta prove himself. DJ Williams is a fine NFL LB.

To reiterate...Larry Coker. Dude won a national championship with somebody else's talent. Most alumn thought it was a mistake selecting him, most thought the mistake was clear come his 2nd year, most alumn wanted him gone well before he was fired...but have heart, based on the 1st 3 quarters of last night's game, and the freshman talent, and perhaps just as important Shannon...the U should be fine sometime within the next 2 years.

You want to check how long the U had top-quality talent, go bask to the late 1980s. Not only were they churning out LBs, WRs and RBs...but Jim Kelly, Bernie Kosar and Vinny Testaverde all came through within I believe a 4-year span

Some from the 1987 squad...

Brian Blades

Michael Irvin

Melvin Bratton

Daniel Stubbs

Randy Shannon.

Benny Blades

Bubba McDowell

Jeff Feagles

Randal Hill

Those were the starters...unless you are an old guy, many you probably do not recognize...Bratton might have been one of the most talented RBs to come through Miami...just to blow out his knee late his senior year. And in 1987, a blown knee was the kiss of death...
