Bell vs. Dayne (1 Viewer)

I was watching the NFL Network on Thursday and there seemed to be no question in Bronco John Lynch's mind that Dayne was the starter. He said something to the effect that Dayne fit in well in their system. He added that Bell was the type of back that could score from anywhere on the field.

This whole Dayne/Bell debate brings back flashbacks from the 2005 Anderson/Bell debate.
I just saw that part this morning. Lynch was very clear in saying that Dayne fits the system and that he spent last year quietly learning and is now ready. I'm not going to overlook those few statements out of him. He should know better than most what the Broncos want to do on offense and it sounded like its Dayne's to lose.

Then it's settled. Ladies and gentlemen, the starting RB for the 2006 Denver Broncos is none other than......Ron Dayne. :bowtie:

Of course everyone knows about "Denver RB1", but I am very afraid of taking this guy. I saw him up front and close with the Giants and he is just horrible. He is tenatative, has happy feet and can't hit the hole - even in Denver you still have to be able to do that. I know Denver can turn just about anyone into a monster but something tells me their perfect record of churning out great RB's will end with Dayne.

After seeing the FBG value plays, I have thought twice about my feelings on Dayne but I just can't convince myself he will get it done. It's one thing to be great in college, another in the NFL. Can someone please tell me I'm wrong and that this guy is worth drafting in his current ADP? I need something other than "He's Denver's primary RB" to convince me. Beleive me, I'd love to grab this guy where he is going right now. :banned:

All I can say is that what I saw of him last season was pretty impressive. Looked like he was really slamming it in there. No happy feet at all.

Read the big Bell vs. Dayne thread. That has all of my thoughts on the matter. I'll just post saying that I grabbed Dayne at 3.06 in a league with a bunch of other FBGers, because I didn't know how much longer they'd let him last (since it was abundantly clear how high I was on him). Haven't regretted it for a moment.

Just curious, where did Bell go? And did you get him, and do you feel the need to have him to handcuff Dayne?

http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=248933There's a recap of the draft. Tatum Bell went at 5.09. I saw absolutely no reason to grab Bell as a handcuff to Dayne. I did handcuff Dayne, though... sort of. I grabbed T.J. Duckett at 11.06, since this was early in the offseason, and I felt that, while I REALLY didn't think Denver was going to trade for an RB, if they traded for anyone, I figured it'd be Duckett. That was me hedging my bet- if Denver traded for Duckett, I was guaranteed to get Denver's starting RB. If they didn't, then I still had Denver's starting RB, and I also had a quality backup/GL-back in Atlanta.

I've yet to chime in on the subject, but I'll try to be brief. Dayne thrives in a system built for a feature RB to be successful. Wisconsin, year after year turns out top 10 college rushers because of the dominant system Alvarez built (big OL, zone blocking, off-tackle playcalls, getting the RB in a rythym, etc). This is VERY similar to the way Denver uses running backs and couldn't be further from how the giants use running backs. In NY, Dayne was trotted on the field for 3rd and 4th down short yardage situations, where he didn't perform very well. In the instances he carried the ball on 1st or 2nd down, it was always straight up the middle -- nothing else.

It is no coincidence or crazy string of luck that Dayne, last year in Denver, finally looked like the back he was at Wisconsin. Both offenses are built the same way.

My opinion is that Dayne will continue where he left off last year breaking off nice 10-20 yard runs in between a bunch of 2-6 yard runs (with the occasional long run). The Denver system couldn't be more perfect for him. He's got no excuses if he doesn't rush for 1000 yards and 9 tds this year.

Bell still seems to be going before Dayne, because I guess a lot of people didn't get the memo.Honestly, I'd handcuff Cobbs to Dayne before I tried to grab Bell/Dayne both.

edit: anyone know why the Patriots released him? I really thought he'd be the future after Dillon.

SSOG, I couldn't resist. But hell the pick could still work out in the end. Dayne just has to beat out Lundy/Morency now.

LMAO...he won't be able to do it in Houston either. It's a MUCH worse offensive line, and he's still heavy, slow, and has an amazing lack of power for a guy his size.

I just wish I had the courage to stick to my guns on TBell after MBell emerged.

Even after Dayne "had" the starting job, I had TBell as a top-10 fantasy RB.

When Shannie then gave the job to MBell, I lost my faith and dropped him quite a bit.
