Your 1st phrase is good. The 2nd is your opinion of conservatives=racist. IMOtimschochet said:Saints, to answer your questions: I hate this whole "conservatives are racist" charge. I've never believed it. It pisses me off to no end when #######s like Al Sharpton constantly imply it. Racists are racists. I disagree with modern day conservatives on a heck of a lot of issues but I will defend them to the death on this one.
But what I will say is that conservatives are overly sensitive to the CHARGE of being racist- so much so that they are consciously or subconsciously delighted by and attracted to black conservatives. Somehow the presence of these guys redeem the honor of the conservative movement, and thus they are willing to cut them an awful lot of slack. Ben Carson is IMO the most politically inept major candidate since Sarah Palin. It is not so much his crazy extremism but his lack of in depth knowledge which is the scariest thing about him. I believe that if he were white he wouldn't get the time of day from these voters.
I thought that was the subtext. Not arguing the point, just exploring it - isn't this saying that (some) conservatives are racists who are willing to support black candidates only so long as they deny racism, but advocating for policy on the basis of remedying racism is an (arguably) Democratic/liberal/progressive concept so the only way that a conservative could support a black man in a non-racist way is if that black candidate was actually a Democrat, liberal or progressive?Ramsay Hunt Experience said:Racists approvingly cite black guys all the time. Those black guys just have to deny the existence of racism. It's kept Jason Whitlock employed for years.
The above point by RHH is about how conservatives really can't legitimately support a black candidate because doing so is inherently racist in and of itself because any Republican candidate must deny policy based on racism to begin with, which itself is racist.timschochet said:Saints, to answer your questions: I hate this whole "conservatives are racist" charge. Your point appears to say, right, because conservatives have a problem with the black electorate their attempts to attract that electorate or proof of their success with that electorate (to the extent they gain major candidates from it) are inherently pathetic because it just demonstrates how desperate they are.
On both bases any attempt by conservatives/Republicans to run black candidates or gain black voters is in and of itself invalid.

Wrong: Old people have more experience. Racist as a group? Not from my days. Treat me good, I'll treat you good.Re: Conservatives are more racist.
Old people tend to be more conservative; old people tend to be more racist.
We're all just waiting for people to die before finally moving on. It's that simple.
Just FYI, this is a textbook logical fallacy. If the first bolded is true, that some conservatives are racist, then the only thing we could take from that from the remaining bolded statements is that those conservatives who are racist would only support black candidates who deny racism.I thought that was the subtext. Also, arguably, conservatives support white candidates on the very same basis, don't they?
Aren't you thus saying that Republicans/conservatives can't be non-racist unless they only support Democratic/liberal/progressive candidates?
Are you suggesting that racism is distributed evenly across all generations, across all locales (not just your neck of the woods)?Wrong: Old people have more experience. Racist as a group? Not from my days. Treat me good, I'll treat you good.Re: Conservatives are more racist.

Yes, It's that simple.
Huge generalization and serious accusation. Racism is not going to go away or even become less when people die off. Prejudices will always be a part of society as long as there are humans around. Saying conservative people are more racist is such a broad generalization that it's impossible to even discuss it rationally.Re: Conservatives are more racist.

Society itself being more outwardly racist 50 years ago doesn't mean more old people are racist. I just don't make that connection. Pretty much.
I don't think anyone said that either and I didn't. I think the assumption about "some" stands, and that's an assumption, not a fallacy. I'm also not the one making it. My point was that some Democrats have conservatives and black voters and candidates in a rhetorical box on that score.njherdfan said:Just FYI, this is a textbook logical fallacy. I don't think anyone in this thread said that a majority of conservatives were racist.
Yeah, there's no way a major candidate can overcome lying about unsavory corporate entanglements for a whole campaign. Pffshhh. His goose is cooked - he'll be caught explaining the Mannatech lie over and over again. It will extinguish all the oxygen out of the room for him to talk his folksy talk.
I'm not saying he's the only one - It's just that his story has mainly been his work on conjoined twins and being a doctor with a folksy attitude that has brought him to the top - because he is the "different outsider". Now he'll be needing to explain this story and that will possibly ruin his momentum.Yeah, there's no way a major candidate can overcome lying about unsavory corporate entanglements for a whole campaign. That was shorthand. - Hillary represented clients in Arkansas who were being regulated by Bill Clinton as Governor. Later, Bill via the Foundation and in his private consulting with Teneo represented clients and took money from donors with business before Hillary. (And Hillary herself took money from corporations who will have business before her as president). I agree the snake-oil issue does reflect poorly on Carson, and hurts his strength, but that is nickel and dime stuff comparatively.I thought she just made money from Wall St by giving speeches.
