Benching your stud in the playoffs... (1 Viewer)

I have Willie Parker this week as my Flex(Normal PPR League), but hes against the Jags. Its the semis of the playoffs. With my backups as Fred Jackson, Kolby Smith, Jesse Chatman, Mark Clayton, and David Patten, I am strongly considering benching Parker.

He's never done well against the Jags, and the Jags are just as good against the run this year as in past years. I dont want to just start Parker because hes Willie Parker. I think benching him is the best option. What do you think?

You know even though Willie is immune to the endzone, he is still leading the league in rushing. Admittedly, that may be because ADP got hurt, but it is still the case.

I can't bench him, put it that way. The one week that I do will be the week he goes for 3 scores.

tough decision. i had a first round bye last week but all my studs did horrible in favorable matches.

Palmer- 3

Owens -5

Winslow- 7

McGahee- 7

Play your studs, you just got to.

I am a Parker owner and am not comfortable either, this week. What is the status of Marcus Stroud? That could be a key factor in my decision....although my other options are more of a risk than Parker. At least with Parker you know he will get the carries. My other options are a crap shoot in that they are so up and down with opportunities. Plus, the Steelers seem to play much better at home. I am hoping he will get me 85+ yards, but am not banking on a td.

I don't forsee any of these guys (Fred Jackson, Kolby Smith, Jesse Chatman, Mark Clayton, and David Patten) doing better than FWP this week.

Agreed. You just can't bench him. I'd love too, but he's been steady and at anytime he could go for 150 and 2 TDs.

Cardinal rule #1: Don't bench your studs. I really would hate to see any of you fall victim to the "overthink" that I did last week and have seen others do.

I benched Favre, Gore and Edge and went with Campbell, Fargas and Kolby Smith based on matchups. Yep, I lost a close one and am out of the playoffs despite having the highest scoring team in the league (ADP didn't help).

DON'T BENCH YOUR STUDS!!!!

I don't really classify Willie Parker as a stud RB this year.

In hindsight I should have benched Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson for Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall last week. Any call can be the right call if it plays out right. If you have a reason behind your decision, go ahead and make it regardless of the names involved.

I think the "never bench your studs" theory plays out better during the regular season than the playoffs because you can ride the waves of good games and bad games. In the playoffs, a bad game can cost the championship.

There are no Stud RB's this year. You have waiver wire guys like Ryan Grant and E. Graham who are performing much better than most RB's that were drafted in RD1.

The only RB's I wouldnt bench are LT, westy and AD. Thats about it.

And this guy almost cost me an early playoff exit.

Me too, but Im still gonna roll with him over my other options.

Survived my AJ benching by leaping thru the screen and tackling Roddy White at the 1 yard line...didn't you see that ghostly figure help wrap him up inches from a score? I need a new TV. On to round 2 of the playoffs.

I have FWP in a league I am in the playoffs. I am starting him like I have done without hesitation every week this year. If he sucks, he sucks.

Don't overthink the room.

its a PPR league and got me 18.7 points last week.he is the #13 RB in our league. not a lot of better options than him honestly to gamble with him and come off the bench.

Yes, but my instinct (Which has gotten me here) and the stats say hes going to have an 11 carry, 45 yard games. And he never gets thrown to.

What I meant by the original post is that the name Willie Parker isnt going to get me anymore points. I'd rather have a healthy Kolby Smith or WR like David Patten in there because I am almost certain they will do better than Parker this week

Willie Parker is no longer a stud. The yards are great, but the FWP has been reduced to a matchup play for Fantasy, and the Jags are not a matchup you want to start him in.

Check out FWP's stats in the Jags game last year if you need proof, and that was when Pitt's line was playing well. 11 carries for 20 yards.

I wouldn't bench Parker for any of those players, but I do think you've got to evaluate your matchups (vs always playing your studs)Stud can be a relative term. With Brock Berlin at QB, I'm benching SJax for Brandon Marshall.

Addai situation on MNF has no correlation to FWP. It was stupid for anyone to bench Addai, as he could score on the ground, through air, etc. He's the 3rd down and goal line back, not true of FWP.

FWP has struggled against great rushing D's. If Stroud was playing then I think 100% with no reservation Willie is on my bench (Selvin Young or others instead). With Stroud out, I may have to rethink. But, I think this will be a low scoring dogfight, 17-13 type game. Only hope is if Willie breaks a long one. I think he will get pounded behind the line of scrimmage all day with that line.

The thread title was "Benching your studs in the playoffs." That's the question I was referring too.

Willie Parker = non-stud in a TD heavy leage. In a yardage league he's a solid #2. You have to ask yourself this: Am I in the playoffs because of Willie Parker or in spite of him?

Depends on the league, but Parker is absolutely not a "no-brainer" start any longer.

I know that he hasn't helped me make the playoffs. the guys who helped are Chad Johnson, Holt, Owens and Whitten. For now, I am going to go with Stecker, Edge James and Parker as my 2 RBs and flex. As much as I want to start Kolby Smith, Fred Jackson, or David Patten, I just cant do it.

It's fairly simple. What's the chances of Willie getting 100 yards vs. the Jax D. With him scoring 2 TD's all year, what's the chances of him scoring in a probable low scoring dogfight vs. Jax? Will he even be on the field in a position to score, or must it be 1st or 2nd down from the 20 on out? I don't like those odds. I'll play him against weak run D's because of yardage only. Won't play him vs. tough run D's. That simple.
