BenJarvus Green-Ellis to Bengals (1 Viewer)

Prediction: Cedric Peerman will be the starting Bengals RB by season's end.
If he's ever given the opportunity. Don't know why he hasn't been yet. With Law Firm and a likely top draft pick on the roster this coming year the opportunity given him may be slight.

I don't know why people are convinced that the Bengals will spend a high draft pick on a RB.They have so many holes to fill, they just filled a hole by signing BJGE. He's a solid RB and has filled theneed for a starting RB in CIN. They will NOT spend a high pick on a RB.

yikes, this is a downgrade from Benson IMO
why? He never fumbles and is younger and does the same thing as benson and without the baggage
:goodposting: Not only that but the offense in Cincy goes through Dalton and Green, with a nice steady back like BJGE to take the pressure off it could be a nice upgrade.
With respect, the offense in Cincinnati goes through the running game and short passes, with a nice steady WR like AJ to take the pressure off.

Benny is a decent guy (I wish him well), but he really is jag imho and once Ridley and Vereen were drafted the writing was on the wall. We will probably see another veteran or rookie come in, but imho it seems likely Ridley will get the first crack at starting and Vereen will get worked in as the 3rd down back. Hardly a lock or etched in stone, just going by what I "guess" to be the most likely scenario.

just curious....why..?does he need his previous NFL career...+...ota's..+..camp...+4 preseason games....+ maybe half a season.....+15 games into a season?....etc...+ injury...to prove himself....if cincy thought he was the dude why is it later instead of now....what is he going to do between right now and "season's end" to prove that he should be the starter...tia

I think this signing allows them to address RB in the 3rd or 4th round rather than round 1. I think we go CB with 1 of the first round picks, but they might have someone else targeted for the other one at guard,LB,or somewhere else.

Ced Benson to the Packers on a one year deal?
Character issues all but end his chance of landing in Green Bay.
benjarvus doesnt have nfl talent.we are about to see reason #3791 that belichick is the goat coach when this guy is proven incapable in cinci.
Maybe the second part will be proven correct but the first part is ridiculous.

Why? Because I'm a lifelong Patriots fan who had BJGE on my fantasy team for all of the last 3 seasons and I know he isn't an answer at the position, he is only a role player. They did not fill that hole. BJGE has always lacked burst and is not a receiving option out of the backfield. He is a goalline back who is also extremely reliable, but he is also extremely limited with what he can do. He averaged only 3.7 yards a carry last season behind an above average offensive line, and had a long of only 18 yards. Unless the Bengals brass believe that he can carry the runninggame despite those glaringly obvious limitations, they will most certainly take a runningback with one of their top picks. Not necessarily in the first round, but certainly no later than the third.

I completely agree. Either they draft one or they are not done in free agency. All this BJGE is the starter talk is hilarious.

I have a few thoughts as a Bengals fan on this one:

1. I think BJGE will be an upgrade over Cedric, who was pretty bad last season. He has really slowed down. And he was in another fight down in Austin last week. I think Benson is toast.

2. I do think the Bengals will still address RB in the 2nd or 3rd round and disagree that the team has a ton of other holes. The team has quietly addressed many of their major needs and will likely make a few more signings in the next week. The needs at DB are overstated in my opinion. I keep going back to something Gruden said in an interview almost a month back where he mentioned that the D is pretty well taken care of and they can use some early picks on the offense. I think that's how it plays out. One D pick early, but I think of the 4 early picks (two 1sts, one 2nd and 3rd rounder) 3 will be offense (RG, WR, RB).

3. Gruden has mentioned RBBC multiple times this offseason. I think the team would jump at the chance to take Miller, Martin or Wilson in the 2nd to add a speedier, big play element to the offense (B. Scott has failed in this role and could be cut). There has been some buzz also that the team is intrigued by Lamichael James and Marvin Lewis personally attended the Oregon pro day.

4. The best case scenario for the Bengals running game to develop into is probably 2010 Chiefs. I think BJGE is going to be the "starter" and get a lot of carries like Thomas Jones did. But the Bengals are likely to attempt to find a Jamaal Charles type big play "backup" in the first half of this draft.

I'm guessing they offered Ellis and Bush the same contract and waited to see who signed first. Good move imho. They'll add another back in the draft, but I'd guess it's a day 2 guy. LaMichael James makes almost too much sense.
