Benson in 2008 (1 Viewer)

Apparently, the O line likes Peterson better.
Yeah, the 3.5 or so ypc that Peterson's getting really shows how much better he is.
Never mind the 71yds receiving he has. :lmao:
The offensive line has so much to do with those passes he catches way down the sideline for 30 yards. The only thing the line is helping with there is pass protection for Grossman. He's a better receiver than Benson but I don't see any evidence yet that he's a better runner.

Whether he's a better runner than Benson or not doesn't interest me that much. The fact that he has more total yards in 2 1/2 quarters than Benson had in any game the entire season is what I care about. In his 1st start, he's showing he's a better all around player than Benson, which is a good feeling as a Bears fan. If Peterson could produce behind this offense, then why couldn't Benson? Just another excuse Benson or his few remaining supporters can no longer use

Does anyone know the cap hit the Bears would take if they got rid of him? According the the PA, he is signed through 2009, so they have already taken 3 of the 5 years of cap hits on him. Isn't the rule that if they cut him after June 1st they can amortize the bonus over the next 2 years, which are the only 2 years remaining on his contract anyway?
It's been mentioned a few times that the cap hit the Bears would have to take is huge, but I don't see any mention of the actual amount. Does anyone know the actual cap hit they would take?

I have to think they'll bring in someone to compete. Maybe a horse like Michael Turner. Maybe a mediocre guy like Chris Brown or Musa Smith. Maybe a draft pick. But I definitely think they'll have another option competing against Benson. Guys who perform as poorly as he has generally don't keep their starting jobs for more than a year or two without significant improvement.

There's an easy answer to this and I'm surprised you're overlooking it. The offensive line is as terrible as ever. Benson isn't as good of a receiver as Peterson, thus Peterson will function better behind a worse line; he'll see more dump off passes. Benson, not being a receiving threat, is more dependent on an offensive line to produce. But given a decent line, he would probably run better than Peterson would (given the same line). At this point, I don't really care though. If the Bears end up dumping a good player (if that is what he turns out to be) because of fan overreaction it's not really my concern. Not like they haven't already done this either (see Thomas Jones).

I think Peterson finally understand how Benson has felt all year. This o-line is an absolute embarassment.

And I love how hard AP runs, but how many times in one game can you get tripped up by what looked like a pinkie?

Peterson and Benson are really the same player, with a few small differences:

1) Peterson runs hard

2) Peterson can pass block

3) Peterson can catch

4) Peterson plays with "heart"

Besides that, they're almost identical. (Danny DeVito in Twins: "it's like I'm looking at myself in a mirror")

everyone must have forgotten that Benson looked great when he was in the RBBC with Thomas Jones in the super bowl run and many were balloting for Benson to get more touches than Jones. he has played poorly but not as poorly-or dopped off as much as the bears Oline. that is the bears biggest issue
He exceeded 100 yards once last season... in week 17 when things get a little freakish in the NFL.In the playoffs, he ran for 45 (3.8 average), 60 (2.5 average) and -1 yards, when it really mattered in the SB. Some question his heart for leaving such an important game. What exactly did we forget?
oh i forgot RBBC members routinely go over 100yards don' they. were thomas jones numbers as the 'lead RB' so much better? and how awesome has he done this year? and for the super bowl-he tore his damn MCL. AP can't play thru a PCL-where is his heart?lolanyone that actually watched the bears game last year could see benson was running with aggression and showing some real 'pop', to his disadvantage he does have to build up steam as he doesn't have the great acceleration. the bears Oline played over there heads with aging vets and journeyman lineman. now there line is in flux and he can't build up the steam he needs. he's not a make u miss type in the backfield-so he will/was suffering greatly. ask any bears fan on how many times he has been hit 3yards deep. the 'other' AP is a good runner but he is usually saved by running draw plays on 3rd and long/passing downs. for everyone thats been clamoring for him-what will u say when he averages under 3.5YPC just like benson?
Maybe I should have noted he didn't even hit 65 yards in any other game last season. You're right, that's just way too much for a back splitting carries. Wait, look Chester Taylor exceeded that today playing second fiddle to AD.

Benson lacks the proper wortk ethic & attitude to succeed in the NFL.
How long have you been his personal trainer?
His own players said last year they didn't like him as the full time back.
BTW, please provide a link to support this statement.Let me guess.... you can't find one?
There's lots of negative pub on Benson. If I recall, Thomas Jones was much more popular with the club. Benson has an injury history as well as a history of some really weird commentary.http://bears.stubhub.com/blog/2006/09/28/c...-butting-heads/

I can sum up my thoughts on Benson by telling you that I cut him for a back-up kicker in a keeper league.
:goodposting: I also waived Benson in a keeper league for a backup-kicker. This guy is dead to me. I think Benson's ADP before the season started was around RB#23 and he finished around RB#24 before getting hurt. So from that perspective, I guess we got what we signed up for. But Benson owners expected a lot more and it was clear after 12 games that this was his ceiling. There are a lot of excuses and some of them are valid. But the bottom line is that this guy is a below average talent. He reminds me of Anthony Thomas without the heart. At least A-Train won ROY. Benson will never win anything.

Best I can tell, Benson signed a 5 year 35 million deal with a 17 mil in guarenteed money over the first 3 years. Not sure how the guarenteed money is broken down between roster bonuses and signing bonuses, but even if its all signing bonus, the total cap hit can't be more than 6.8 million. Significant, but not prohibative, especially if they can prorate over 2 years. (I think there is a new rule in place where one or two players can be released before June 1 and still be prorated)

I agree with all of that, believe me. I have been posting daily in threads about Benson for the past three years. My point is, if that guy thinks one of his teammates actually came out in public and said "I don't like Benson as our full time back," he's full of ####.Oddly enough, I'm still waiting on the link.

everyone that was waiting for the 'other' adrian peterson to take over for benson what did u get?amazing he can catch the ball really well(like all 3rd down RB). what was his running stats? something like 22carries for 65yards, amazing his high YPC carry as a breather didn't holdup as the workhorse and his actual YPC looks alot like benson's. must not be the Oline
