Yeah, you're probably right. I just didn't know how to qualify it. "Close Your Eyes (and Count to ####)" with ZdlR is in my heavy rotation currently. Not sure if it technically qualifies as hip-hop, although there's some guest artists... but the Flying Lotus album from this year is also pretty great. Not sure how big of a hip hop contingent there is here but Run The Jewels 2 by Run The Jewels is![]()
I have the tune with Kendrick Lamar on mine. The instrumental stuff is pretty cool- but I have to be in the right mood for it more than the vocal tracks.Yeah, you're probably right. I feel like I have to take a deep breath right before I listen to Flying Lotus. It's great but there's stuff going on all over the place. I need to give it a couple more listens.
It's very cool.probably too main stream for many of you folks but...
The Basement Tapes, Lost on the River
Cool concept, perfect execution. Lots of cool songs.
Yes.Hookworms - The Hum
It feels like it's been awhile since we've had something new that was really really good. This is the kick-### album I've been waiting for. They remind me of Thee Oh Sees with a little more pop and a little more punk. But not overtly so in either direction. Simply put, it ####### rocks.

So much yes. It's really been the only thing I've been listening to the past few days. Easy top 5 of the year for me.really yes.Yes.Hookworms - The Hum

Yeah I thought it was pretty terrible.. liked S.A. a lot..Is Content Nausea another new full length album by Parquet Courts?
Sounds like you're waiting for the next Awolnation album like I am.So act like I haven't payed attention to music in the past year(because I haven't) and some of my favorite artists are Outkast, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Daft Punk, Cage the Elephant, the New Pornographers, and Twenty One Pilots. Although I do have guilty pleasure for songs that are terrible and fall into the fun/party mixes, I am open to just about anything besides probably metal, mainly because I normally have issues listening to lyrics in music anyway.
What would be some songs or albums that have come out in the past 6 months that may interest me? I'll travel back through this thread to but I'm just looking for some starting points. Thanks fbg's, you guys always give solid music advice.
Big KRIT will fill your Outkast void. I also recommend Alt J.So act like I haven't payed attention to music in the past year(because I haven't) and some of my favorite artists are Outkast, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Daft Punk, Cage the Elephant, the New Pornographers, and Twenty One Pilots. listened trhough it once... felt a lot like out-takes, or "wth, we've got the studio- let's throw it all down". I couldn't even pull one song out of it for my on-going giant mix-tape of things I like.Yeah I thought it was pretty terrible.. liked S.A. a lot..Is Content Nausea another new full length album by Parquet Courts?
I actually like it better than Sunbathing Animal. "The Map" reminds me of VU's "The Gift" in delivery. Content Nausea is definitely noisy and abrasive, but I dig it. Lyrics are great too. Not to different than their other stuff, but I like the embracing of the rough, gritty sound of NYC. Some of this sounds like Television to me too. Pretty Machines and the Slide Machine cover are both groovy little pop tunes that stray from abrasive punk of the rest of the album. The closer, "Uncast Shadow of a Southern Myth" is also brilliant, one of the best they've done IMO.listened trhough it once... felt a lot like out-takes, or "wth, we've got the studio- let's throw it all down". Well, Parkay Quarts... But yes.Is Content Nausea another new full length album by Parquet Courts?
is this a full-time change, or just for this album?Well, Parkay Quarts... But yes.Is Content Nausea another new full length album by Parquet Courts?
Just for this "album" (although I view it as more of a b-side record than an LP) from what I understand.El Floppo said:is this a full-time change, or just for this album?Fly said:Well, Parkay Quarts... But yes.Is Content Nausea another new full length album by Parquet Courts?
No schtick... 1989 is a really good album beginning to end. It would fit into your 'guily pleasure' category. Not a guilty pleasure for me... I no longer feel guilty for any music I like, but if you are open to it I would definitely check it out.So act like I haven't payed attention to music in the past year(because I haven't) and some of my favorite artists are Outkast, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Daft Punk, Cage the Elephant, the New Pornographers, and Twenty One Pilots. Most people probably only know the signle 'Shake It Off' and maybe the 2nd single 'Blank Space'. Both of those songs are good, but the rest of the songs on the album are just as strong. It's pretty amazing to me how well she captured the era of the 80's. Shre pretty much nails it throughout the album. Not every song is a catchy pop song. From a pure sonic standpoint alone, the album is strong. If you do like 80's music at all, the odds of you liking 1989 are pretty high.
I did get the deluxe version and I agree with you. That is a great song. Good call on the Pet Shop Boys sound. I knew it sounded familiar but couldn't put my finger on it.1989 ####### rules.ETA - get the deluxe version, New Romantics is better than half the songs on the album proper, sounds like it should be on a 90s Pet Shop Boys album. MassiveAwolnation time scale:
As for that new record, AWOLNATION fans, keep your eyes and ears peeled for December: The record is in the mixing process at the moment, but Bruno reveals that they're looking to drop the full-length follow-up to 2011's Megalithic Symphony in mid-March. - See more at: http://www.fuse.tv/videos/2014/11/voodoo-2014-awolnation-interview#sthash.ZxhhTjvh.dpuf
here. This is all I've listened to the last few weeks. Pairs perfectly with driving through the mountains. Thx buddy.anybody? this keeps popping up- and it has the same singer/songwriterSo you guys into this stuff also into the new Hiss Golden Messenger? Just curious... seems similar.hadn't heard of him before you guys started talking about him in here.ya it isI just realized he did a voivod inspired album in memory of piggy, orionnew ryan adams is terrific
not sure how I missed it
then I noticed KCRW's music mine on Spotify has had him pretty religiously up and down the DJ lineups. I find it pretty *meh*. Does not turn my crank at all... but I'm much less into the singer/song-writer lyric or melody driven type of stuff like this. I tend to like rhythm/hook driven songs- barely listen to the lyrics until much later.vibe as Ryan Adams. I think you will like it. "you"= the people who like more thoughtfully written and sung music vs the more basic garagey stuff I like.eta: has a Father John Misty vibe, IMO...

Pretty good on initial listen. Has the post-2000 sound, but not as annoying as the past few albums.New Smashing Pumpkins
