I did ~25 best balls last year, mostly dollar contests on FanDuel but a few 25 and 50 dollar contests. I will start doing them after the NFL draft but probably only a couple per month until mid-late June.

I will probably peak in mid July/early August, but will still do 1 a week from there to beginning of season.

??? Gotta plead ignorance here. Best ball is a fantasy football format. In which you don't set a lineup, but receive your best lineup's score guaranteed, right? What does this have to do with the offseason months?

Given who made the thread, the assumption would be "when should FBG start doing content for this"

But to answer Joe's question, it's not a format I currently play, but might look into for this season, I would probably not be looking into anything pre-draft at this stage, and would lean volume towards nearer towards the start of the season but before I start my standard redraft leagues so as to not mix research/thought processes

It's a popular format for people drafting in the offseason because you can enjoy a draft in February and not have the obligation of filing in lineups during the season.

For me I think it's fun to have something now but the real sweet spots are right after the superbowl, the NFL combine, the draft and rookie camps.

I suspect FFPC and mfl can give you better numbers about when these are most popular if you're interested

i did a ton in Feb, March and April. was fun to combat the dull of the end of the NFL season, and so many unknowns can make it fun. After the draft picked up again, and took a break late June and July, to-engage through August.

was a ton of fun, and made 1 team to the Best Ball finals on Underdog. played quite a bit once my teams were out in seasonal fantasy as well

Every month for me, 1st FPC never too early is already in process. Will slack off in May due to rookie dynasty drafts and then again after mid to late August for more redraft std tourneys.

Last year was my first year getting the itch to draft right after the Super Bowl and drafted every month up to the season. All my early drafts were complete junk and not competitive. Too much stuff changes in the off season to do that unless you just hope to get lucky IMO. Like I had Gronk on like 70% of those early teams. Just dumb stuff like that helped torpedo most of my early best ball teams. I'll probably wait until closer to the season this year to do any drafts unless just a practice draft or two late spring early summer.

FBG could do ten cheapie drafts, download the data, and be the only site to have sincere ADP data in March or April.

I think this is burnout time and leads to a lot of mistakes during August and in-season. FF people need a break too.

Messing around drafting is fine, fun, whatever but if you're breaking down 32 teams before they each add and subtract twenty players you're actually doing more difficult work than any other point in the season. Further, you can't possibly correctly predict the movement of 500-1000 players.
It's a total trap I've fallen into before. Buffalo has a great team so let's project similar for their offense. Wait Diggs is truly unhappy? They replaced Diggs with Kirk? Seriously? OK so Davis will get more opportunity then, what he hurt his hamstring playing in the yard with his kids? Ugh ok so now I'm downgrading Allen but projecting more rushing yards. Hey maybe they'll actually commit to the run for a change. So I'm gonna bump the RB stats, what's on the news? They traded up to get that WR in the draft? Ok ok blank slate, starting over with projections. It goes on and on and I didn't even mention the line or schedule or 31 other teams or...ya gotta let some things settle and enjoy some time off.

I start getting interested right when draftkings and underdog release their big best ball contests and will start entering a few contests right when that happens. I can't remember exactly when that was last year, I think sometime in May or maybe June. I don't do the majority of my best ball drafts until later in the summer (late July-August) as information becomes more clear, however.

Come on back home @bostonfred https://forums.footballguys.com/threads/2023-wsl-sign-up-thread.807762/

For anyone interested we run a FBG league out of the Mock Draft Forum a week or two after the Super Bowl. Often you will see a Staff member or two involved. I always assumed this is where everyone got their data to publish their first rankings. Regardless, it''s fun to be involved in a draft where there's very little ADP data to use.
