I've watched a lot of that show, and it just awful most of the time. I thought Def Poetry Jam had more to offer.Don't think I saw a single mention of Def Comedy Jam?!?!?!?

and a side of Real SexI remember those shows. I remember them being pretty bad. They belong in a poll for the best HBO series in the same way that According to Jim belongs in a poll for the best television sitcom.Props to anyone who remembers shows that weren't made this decade like the poll options.
Dream On was excellent as were First and Ten, The Hitch-Hiker, Arli$$ and my personal favorite: Tales from the Crypt.
Loved Real Sex, talk about eye opening shows (especially when you were a kid and didn't know much yet.) How many volumes did they get up to? Had to be in the 30's.
G-String Diva's was a great guilty pleasure which had some of the greatest music ever (as most strip clubs do.) Why isn't it available on dvd?
Don't think I saw a single mention of Def Comedy Jam?!?!?!?
And Showtime has Weeds.Yep, canceled my HBO sub to get Showtime, HBO only has Entourage now while Showtime has Dexter,Californication and Penn and Teller. The more I see of True Blood, the less I like. Damn does HBO blow right now.
Great showRome not getting near enough love.
Generation Kill was certainly better than some of the shows you listed. So many great shows were made by HBO, which really influenced many of the shows we now have on TV.
my top three are all Dramas:
1) The Wire
2) OZ
3) The Sopranos
Curb comes a close 4th
PS i was going to add Generation Kill, but there were no spots and i thought it was just a meh show
Agreed. My vote:Rome not getting near enough love.
1) Band of Brothers
2) Rome
3) Soprano's
I initially loved this series, but for whatever reason, I lost my appetite for it midway through season 2. It's great, but I got bogged down in the details and at times, was completely lost. But I'm not very bright, so I'm sure it's me and not Deadwood. Still, I'm looking forward to picking it back up soon.My GF had never seen episode one of Six Feet Under, so we started watching it together in October. She was immediately hooked and we went through every single episode before Xmas. Once I realized she loved this series as much as I did, I knew for certain she was the one and asked her to marry me.Okay, that's not entirely accurate....well, maybe it did play a part.I just finished season one of Deadwood, and have to move it up into the #2 slot behind The Wire.

How can Sopranos dominate this thread, yet the Wire was killing in a thread earlier today?Almost HONDA'd this thread. Sooo many HBO favorites. I missed The Wire when it was on, but I'm so glad I took the time to go back and watch this. It might be the best show ever. Many a trusted friend recommended this to me, so it was only a matter of time.. The WireOZSopranosWe might have to update this with a new poll now that True Blood is in the mix. Still early, but Season 1 was great.Carnivale deserved a listing. Not the best, but it was dark, intriguing and I definitely looked forward to every new episode. It could've been so much more. How about best HBO show character? Early dibs on Omar Little, Simon Adebisi and Ari Gold.

what would that have to do with a poll from September 2008?Obviously, the more intelligent people are online today. How can Sopranos dominate this thread, yet the Wire was killing in a thread earlier today?

I can;t give this a goodposting because I looked forward to other HBO shows quite a bit, but I LOVED carnivale.Maybe not best ever, but Carnivale was the only HBO show that I consistently looked forward to the next episode.

Thats a good Poll question, should be a thread, start it up.Almost HONDA'd this thread. Sooo many HBO favorites.

I wish I could convert more people to Six Feet Under...So woefully underappreciated.Six Feet Under ... and it is possibly the best show ever written.

Boardwalk Empire is heading for top 5 status.Unless you're 15 years old, please don't ever compare EB&D to Curb.Wonder where Boardwalk Empire fairs vs the other top HBO shows.PS Eastbound and Down is probably nearing Curb as my favorite HBO Comedy series ever
I love Eastbound and Down. But it needs three or four more outstanding season to equal the Curb greatness.By the way, anyone judging "Best HBO Comedy Ever" needs to see the entire Larry Sanders series. Outstanding, hilarious show.Boardwalk Empire is heading for top 5 status.Unless you're 15 years old, please don't ever compare EB&D to Curb.Wonder where Boardwalk Empire fairs vs the other top HBO shows.PS Eastbound and Down is probably nearing Curb as my favorite HBO Comedy series ever
I don't know. I enjoyed the first season of EB&D, but I didn't think it was over-the-top hilarious like Curb is.I've never seen the Larry Sanders series, but have been meaning to forever. Would it come across as dated now?I love Eastbound and Down. There certainly are elements that are dated - clothes, for example. But it's written by former Letterman writers, and it's a timeless, acerbic satire that still seems fresh. If you give it a shot, try a few episodes. The characters really grow on you.Adebisi said:I don't know. Six Feet Under was one of the best series ever, let alone just on HBO
