Best Mid-Round WRs...? PPR league (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
I've seen alot of talk about Mid-Round RBs, but not much about Mid-Round WRs. I am not sure what kind of upside these guys have.

In 10-Team, PPR, here's the rounds and WR going there (as of about 1 week ago).

Who do you like and why? Who are you avoiding?

3rd: Desean, Colston, Sidney Rice, SSmith NYG

4th: Boldin, SSmith CAR

5th: Ochocinco, Crabtree, Welker (altho, he seems to be moving up)

6th: Nicks, Bowe, MSW, Ward, Percy

7th: Maclin, M.Wallace, VJax (moving down?), Garcon

8th: Santana, Driver, Housh, Dez

9th: Meachem, Floyd, Knox, TO (moving up?)

10th: Breatson, Hester, Mason

11th: Brayton, Britt, Santonio

12th and beyond...Aromashodu, Royal, Lee Evans, Gaffney, Cotchery, Avery, Burleson, Collie...

I lean towards the bolded guys in mocks:

3rd: Desean, Colston, Sidney Rice, SSmith NYG

4th: Boldin, SSmith CAR

5th: Ochocinco, Crabtree, Welker (altho, he seems to be moving up)

6th: Nicks, Bowe, MSW, Ward, Percy

7th: Maclin, M.Wallace, VJax (moving down?), Garcon

8th: Santana, Driver, Housh, Dez

9th: Meachem, Floyd, Knox, TO (moving up?)

10th: Breatson, Hester, Mason

11th: Brayton, Britt, Santonio

12th and beyond...Aromashodu, Royal, Lee Evans, Gaffney, Cotchery, Avery, Burleson, Collie...

Not sure Desean will be a great pick in PPR. He's a big play guy and doesn't really go over the middle to haul in passes. I would pass on him in PPR most likely.

Problem with these guys is I think it's crapshoot in the mid rounds.

We talk about the mid round RBs being gold, but I think the main reason a lot of people will be piling up the mid round RBs this year is because gem Wrs are harder to pick out in the draft. Better to grab the studs in the 1st 2 rounds and more then likely another solid starting WR can be had on the WW after the draft.

Bolded are my preferred picks in a PPR league.

That's a great point and normally my plan, but in my keeper league, looks like I am keeping two RBs and probably will end up with Gore at the third pick. It requires me to turn my plan upside down, doing mid-round WR instead of mid-round RBs.

As I thought about it, I wondered how much more risky are some of the WR people like from my list above vs. the RBs in the mid-rounds. Here are the RBs there, and I don't know if they are any more 'safe' than those WRs. ie, all you need is 1-2 to break, and you are good to go.

3rd: J.Charles, R.Mathews (he's going earlier), R. Grant, Sh. Greene

4th: PThomas, Beanie, Knowshown (dropping?), McCoy, Cedric, J.Stew

5th: Addai, Best

6th: RoBrown, Felix, Forte, Re Bush

7th: Jacobs, MBIII, Forsett

8th: Spiller, Bradshaw, Ricky

9th: J. Harrison, Fred Jackson, Cadillac

10th and later: Mi Bush (going up), McFadden, Portis, Do.Brown, Sproles, Hardesty, Hightower, Maroney

So, what group do you like better, or which has more risk?

WR midrounders: Welker, Ward, Garcon, Knox (to go with say, Gore and DeAngelo)

RB midrounders: R. Grant, Beanie, Addai, Forsett (to go with say, Fitzgerald and Jennings?)

No mention of Nicks yet?? Id take him over 85% of these guys:

3rd: Desean, Colston, Sidney Rice, SSmith NYG(drop to 5th)

4th: Boldin, SSmith CAR

5th: Ochocinco, Crabtree, Welker (altho, he seems to be moving up)

6th: Nicks(bump to 5th), Bowe, MSW(4th), Ward, Percy

7th: Maclin, M.Wallace, VJax (moving down?), Garcon

8th: Santana, Driver(bump to 7th), Housh(drop), Dez

9th: Meachem, Floyd, Knox, TO (moving up?)

10th: Breatson, Hester, Mason

11th: Braylon, Britt, Santonio(bump to 7th-8th*steal when he plays even in a run happy Offense; stash and wait)

12th and beyond...Aromashodu, Royal, Lee Evans, Gaffney, Cotchery, Avery, Burleson, Collie...

**Im staying away from SSmith CAR due to his ADP and where I think he'll finish; Boldin for same reason as I think S.Holmes may finish better even with 4 game suspension; Ocho never makes my roster as he is way too inconsistant weekly. -can be the difference in a win but more times he's why you lost; Welker is GOLD if healthy, too many 8-10 catch games and 100 yds to avoid..I like Desean alot even though he will not catch a ton of passes he can score on any given play and usually does for huge TD's. Crabtree may be able to fit in that 4th category this year as I believe he'll improve and take some of V.Davis's 09 production. Rice is a beast but he's dinged and if Brett doesnt play he's not going to return what you paid-still may be a "good" WR but not a stud. Id roll with the better RB's and pull guys from round 4-6 to build your WR corps and be very happy

 this is what I would do: Welker, Ward, Nicks, and keep an eye on VJax and Holmes as they are going way too late in some drafts given their shorter seasons.. when they do get back they'll be worth the stash!
