Best NFL owner? (1 Viewer)

Just as a contrast to the topic of worst NFL owner, who is currently the best NFL owner? Dan Rooney? Bob Kraft? Jerry Jones? Paul Allen? Mara/Tisch? Blank? Just some names to throw out their, not really sure what the consensus on who is a good owner/who isn't is. Do fans prefer owners like Jerry Jones or Dan Snyder or more of the Kraft/Rooney mold?

My vote is biased but I would have to go with Bob Kraft. Before the bought the Patriots, they were an NFL wasteland with one of/if not the worst stadium in the league. Since entering the league he has helped lead the Pats to be one of the most successful franchises in history, built a state of the art stadium with his own money and has been a leading influence in the league.

Isn't the answer always Kraft, Rooney, Jones, and whatever other owner who has a team that happens to be hot at the moment?

Depends on criteria, but Paul Allen has to be taken into consideration. He is a life long Seahawks fan, saved a team that was literally in the middle of packing up and moving to LA, ponied up a huge chunk of change for one of the best stadiums in the NFL, and has made reasonably sound football decisions (basically knows enough to stay away and let others handle it). He is a pretty low key guy, but has gone as far as jamming with/for the players on his guitar (largest Hendrix memorabilia owner), and raising the 12th man flag before the NFCCG. His teams have been pretty successful in terms of W's, but the biggest success was bring the Seahawks back into center stage for the PNW after the Behring years.

Honorable mention to Chiefs owner Clark Hunt for cutting ties with the prima donna Carl Petersen two years ago, something his father, out of a misplaced sense of loyalty, would never do. Petersen's ego and insistince on hard nosed negotiations with players and agents was running off key talent (Jared Allen to the Vikings) and scaring free agents away from even considering the Chiefs.

Hunt's decision to clean house and bring in Scott Pioli from the Patriots was the best front office personnel decision in this organization in a decade.

I think Paul Allen and Steve Bisciotti are two great calls. Even more so when you factor in that they're billionaires. Who knows where the league is going with the CBA, but neither of these guys are leveraged to the max like some other owners with less deep pockets. As a result, they're not forced to nickel-and-dime the fans over every last thing to wring out the maximum possible revenue to service debt (hello, Dan Snyder). Also, they'll be able to compete for free agents regardless of what happens with the cap.

Bisciotti is the third-youngest owner in the NFL. The first big thing he did was to build the Ravens' state-of-the-art facility, which is the envy of every team in the league. The second big thing he did was fire Billick the year after giving him a hugely expensive extension. But he ate all that money, and then went out and found John Harbaugh (kind of out of nowhere) to become coach. Harbaugh is now three-for-three in making the playoffs.

The fact that he's so behind-the-scenes that only Ravens fans would think to add him to this list is one of the things that makes him such a good owner. And believe me, with Peter Angelos in town, we know the difference between good and bad owners.

The Rooney family far outweighs anyone else.

Of course I'm swayed remembering them and Ralph Wilson as the only ones to vote against moving the Browns.

First thing in my mind before even opening the thread: Kraft, Rooney. No particular order.

Now if Mark Cuban could just get a hold of a a team wow. That would be fun.

can't say its the mccaskey's. but next season they are putting in a new brother to run the team, word is he actually held jobs before, and was successful in running operations, so there is hope for the future.

Actually they're publicly owned by stockholders. Many of them live in Green Bay, but by no means all of themhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Bay_Packers

But :goodposting: on they being the best owners
I think there are both pros and cons associated with public ownership of a sports franchise. I think the structure in Green Bay works well for that team, but I wouldn't say it makes them the best NFL owner.

Jerry Jones, the owner, is amazing. The guy is the face of the franchise, and is about as accessable to the media more than anyone this side of Cuban. His passion for the Cowboys and winning is unrivaled.

Jerry Jones, the General Manager and Football Overlord, makes me want to give up on this team all together.

:goodposting: It's unfortunate that most members of the Shark Pool are unable to tell the difference.

Jerry Jones, the Owner, picked Jerry Jones, football overlord, to be general manager. From a financial standpoint, he is a great owner. From a football standpoint, due to his poor choice of general manager, he is average at best.

Yea we North Texans appreciate his $70.00 parking and well over $100 for nose bleed tickets, nice TV screen though

I think the NFL is littered with good owners, which is why the league has reached new heights of financial success and popularity. These guys, for the most part, make sound decisions in the interest of themselves and their league counterparts. To me it's a lot easier to see the owners who AREN'T good than to cherry pick between those who are good.

It's only $30 to park right next door at the Ballpark at Arlington. Which is about the same as Mavs area parking (20-40, location variant) so as long as you have legs it's not too bad.I agree that Jerry is an above average owner, but somebody else needs to "buy the groceries."I would say that the Oakland owner has to be the best one...if only I could remember his name :lmao:

Rooney's and Kraft as mentioned before, and the Mara's. With the Rooney and Mara families linked by marriage, that's one powerful family in the NFL world.

Edward DeBatolo Jr. was one of the best, it'd be nice if they let him comeback to the 49ers.
