Best Present at Practice? (1 Viewer)

Per rotoworld...

Jahvid Best (concussion) returned to Lions practice on Wednesday.

We've seen Best dropped in quite a few fantasy leagues; pick him back up. While there are no guarantees that Best will play against the Panthers in Week 11, his return to practice suggests he's been medically cleared after his latest concussion. We'll have at least one more update before Wednesday night.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhh yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

effing right he'll play. Lions need wins

PARTYYYY. Seriously, fantastic news as I've been holding Best for the past two weeks. Having him back for the playoffs over Jackie Battle could be just the thing I need to have a solid shot at a championship. The thought Foster, Sproles and Best for the playoffs makes feel like a kid in a candy store and all the candy is free.

Hang on

"Jahvid Best (concussion) was in attendance at Lions practice Wednesday.

The Lions announced that Best was "at" Wednesday's practice on Twitter, but have failed to specify whether he participated. We'll have an update shortly."

Hopefully we'll know more of his participation.

Still waiting to see what "back at practice" means.

Could be anything from standing on the sidelines to light running on the side to more strenuous drills. Earlier reports specifically said he wasn't around...

still showing signs of concussion how can he participate
That was the report as of yesterday. I know they also said he had been around seeing specialists earlier I the week. Maybe he is cleared now. I don't believe he has complained about concussion symptoms publically in some time.

This smells of misdirection to me. "Hey Carolina, Best was at practice today! Better prepare for him." I have no idea if this is true but it just seems like it. If they were truly going to start him I think that they would be publicly saying, "He's trying a few things and we are uncertain what will happen"

Looks like Rotoword jumped the gun again, they pulled their original statement for a more vague one. "At" practice is a little different.

Yes, because of all teams that you need to cleverly misdirect for a win it'd be the terrifying 2-7 Carolina Panthers and their menacing 28th ranked rushing defense. Not likely... it's more likely they were giving a legit report that he was at practice. Likely later today we will understand to what extent. Like Jene stated above he could be in sweatpants and a hoodie watching them practice. He could be doing some light jogs to see if he feels any symptoms. Or he could be completely cleared by doctors to return to full padded practice and play. Either way we won't know until the report comes later in the day about what he was doing there. I doubt he plays this week though.

I think that's what happened as well. I would guess any sign of Best at practice is a step in the right direction....unless he was there to be placed on IR.

As long as he is playing in weeks 14-16, I am happy. Rest....get those legs fresh and that head right....I don't care...just be there when it counts, mmkay? Finish the season with a great burst so I can win a title and trade you ..lol.

Picked up Smith on waivers this morning and have Smith. Best is as good of a lottery shot as anyone else. Def worth an add.

Per rotoworld:

Updating a previous item, Jahvid Best (concussion) did not participate in Lions practice Wednesday.

The Lions' Twitter account deceptively announced that Best was "at" practice on Wednesday, but it appears he only attended and still hasn't been medically cleared. Look for Maurice Morris to start Sunday against the Panthers.

UM..... I think we need a subtitle change to the thread..........

Detriot Lions twitter also tweeted a link to this article:

Best's presence at Wednesday's practice a good sign

Running back Jahvid Best didn't practice on Wednesday, but he was present on the field for the first time since suffering a concussion Week 6 against San Francisco.

While that sets nothing in stone as far as a return date, it is a good sign that Best is feeling better.

Head Coach Jim Schwartz has mentioned that players who suffer from concussions are held back from team functions due to the sensitivity from light, sound, etc., which is why Best hasn't been at practices and why he didn't make the trip to Chicago with the team last weekend.

DETROIT—Lions coach Jim Schwartz has defended his team’s lack of a running game at times this year by saying they use the short pass as an extension of the run. But in the three games Jahvid Best has missed with a concussion, even that’s dried up.

At the time of his injury, Best ranked third on the team with 27 catches for 287 yards. Without Best in the lineup, the Lions have completed just seven passes to running backs for 41 yards—less production receiving than Best had in four games by himself this year.

“I don’t want to say (Best being out has) hurt our offense,” Schwartz said Wednesday. “I mean, we have a lot of other playmakers and those guys can make plays. Maybe the focus is a little bit different, but there’s plenty of plays. Our run efficiency has gone up also and those guys have all carried the ball well and got productive yards in the run game.”

Fill-in running back Maurice Morris is averaging 4.8 yards a carry as starter, slightly more than Best’s 4.6 average, but the Lions showed their lack of faith in him in last Sunday’s loss to the Bears when they attempted 28 passes in the first half despite extremely windy conditions and a quarterback playing with a fractured right index finger.

With little production from their backfield, the rest of the Lions' offense has bogged down. Matthew Stafford’s favorite outlet, tight end Brandon Pettigrew, has just 77 yards receiving in the last three games, and with little threat of a running game defenses are getting ample pressure on Stafford.

Best still doesn’t have a timetable for his return. He didn’t practice Wednesday and hasn’t been cleared to resume physical activity, but did watch the team’s workout for the first time since suffering his second concussion of the year Oct. 16 against the 49ers.

Stafford said X-rays showed his finger is healing properly, but he still plans to wear gloves again Sunday and most likely in next week’s Thanksgiving game against the Packers to help him better grip the ball.

Notes: The Lions are dealing with an assortment of injuries on their defensive line. Kyle Vanden Bosch took his usual maintenance day off Wednesday, and backup defensive ends Willie Young (ankle) and Lawrence Jackson (thigh) did not practice. Both Young and Jackson said they should be fine for Sunday’s game against the Panthers and Cam Newton, who’s been sacked three or more times in five of nine games this year. ... The Lions released Robert Malone and signed Ben Graham to handle punting duties in case Ryan Donahue can’t go Sunday. Donahue is still dealing with a strained quad in his kicking leg.

Aww come on. You have 2 weeks to get healthy Best. Then I need you. Otherwise I'm starting Lance Ball for the playoffs. Get that head right man.

Don't know if he was standing on the sidelines, but he's still not practicing:

Lions | Jahvid Best not practicing Thu, 17 Nov 2011 08:31:00 -0800 Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (concussion) is not taking part in practice Thursday, Nov. 17.

I need him most 14-16 like the rest of you. Having a RB corps of Foster, Murray, and Best would be huge for me!

Throw in a sprinkle of Brady, Welker, and Graham and I can smell a trophy.

Reading the title, I thought someone received a gift at practice.
Ditto... Well, actually, I thought multiple gifts were handed out at practice and the poster was going to ask us which gift we thought was the best.

But seriously, I totally need Best back so I can add him to Foster, McCoy & AP, and then of course to top it off Rodgers, Cam, & Brady (start 3 QB's), and Calvin, Welker, Fitz, Jennings, plus Gronk & Graham (start 2 TE's). I'll be way set for a championship run when I get Best back.

Coach Jim Schwartz confirmed Thursday that Jahvid Best is finally "improving" in his return from a concussion.

"He's back in the building and those kind of things, on a limited basis," said Schwartz. "I think that's obviously a good sign, but we still don't have clearance for him to do physical activity yet." Realistically, Best won't be in shape to take a workload of 12+ touches until Week 13 at the earliest even if he gains clearance late this week or early next.
