Best team in the NFL after week 12 (2 Viewers)

Who's the best team in the NFL right now?

  • Total voters
    47
  • Poll closed .
Dan Campbell is 41-35-1 (.539)

Technically true (the best kind of being right) but lacks context.
  • 5-7 with Miami 13 years ago
  • 4-19-1 (0-11-1 on the road) through Y2 Week 8 of a complete rebuild
  • 32-9 since Halloween 2022; 16-4 at home, 16-5 on the road
Totally. I’m a huge fan. Nick had a stretch of 24-4 (with 2 of those losses being when Hurts was out and Minshew was QB). I’m not knocking Campbell at all. I’m just saying that there’s a legit argument that he is better than Nick and another legit argument that Nick is better. No one is miles better than anyone in this convo.

x - offense
y - defense

upper right hand teams
  1. Detroit
  2. Buffalo
  3. Philadelphia
Seems like the right order for now

Reductive, but that's also the order of points differential per game on the season.

Love the fact there are people who still doubt the Lions. It's awesome.

IDK - it's pretty close

Philadelphia grades/ranks will look better with the Rams game included.

DVOA, Detroit is ahead of everyone, but after yesterday's lackluster game, it will be closer than after Week 11.
You forgot one thing.....coaching.

Detroit coaching is miles ahead of Philly.
Is it? Nick Sirriani is 44-22 (.667) since taking the HC job, Dan Campbell is 41-35-1 (.539) so three more wins in eleven less games. He has made the playoffs every year he's been HC. The team he took over was a 4-11-1 disaster and the next year they were a playoff team.

Offensively, They are damn near the same. Lions total yards is 4,337 and the birds are 4,280. Lions have 500 more yards passing, Eagles have 500 yards more rushing. Lions have scored 360 points and the Birds have scored 296, so slight edge there.

Defensively, I don't think there is a question the Eagles are as good or better-especially since the bye week in week 4. They're allowing a league-low 274 ypg, compared to Detroit at 322, they allow 50 ypg less on the ground and almost exactly the same through the air. The Lions have allowed 183 total point compared to the Eagles having allowed 199-so 16 total point difference.

You may be right that the coaching is better, but I don't see an argument that its miles ahead of Philly. At all.
Personally, I would base my "Campbell is a better coach than Sirianni" argument on the fact that I have eyes and have watched football.

That said, the Eagles are a damned good team that is running on all cylinders at the moment. I'm very wary of having to face them in the playoffs

Out of the top 4, I still trust Andy Reid and Mahomes over Campbell, McDermott, and crazy Sirianni. But it really could be Saqoun vs. Henry. I want to see Detroit in the Super Bowl, but I think Cambpell and Sirianni can be reckless and that's a toss up for the NFCCG. Hell, GEQBUS and MEGASOTA can sneak their way into the NFCCG.

Since 2021, the Lions lead the league in expected points added (EPA) from fourth-down decisions (34.1). I guess the old meathead TE just gets lucky eh.

I also have eyes, and I’ve seen football! And I’ve seen Nick make the playoffs every year he’s been a head coach, I’ve seen him win more games than Dan Campbell, in one less season, I’ve seen him make a Super Bowl and come one BS pass interference call from winning it.

I get that people don’t like Sirianni’s persona. But the idea that he’s not one of the best coaches in the league is ****ing ludicrous.

The Lions are clearly, and I mean CLEARLY, the best team in the NFL right now. That being said if I had to pick a team to win the Super Bowl, it would be the Chiefs. The Chiefs just get it done in the post-season.

I think the Lions are #1, but I think Philly is right there at #2 and does a lot of things better than Detroit.

The Ravens are the team I wanna keep an eye on. I think their best beats anyone else's best. They just lack consistency, especially on defense, but I think they can drop 30+ on anybody, and the defense (while not good) is capable of playing well, especially at stopping the run.

They have been in this spot before and always choke. While they have Henry, their D has taken a step back.

While they are not the bast, maybe not in the top 10 - TB knows how to beat Detroit.

Im hoping they dont make it in the playoffs

I don't think Philly needs to worry about TB at all. That game had Chris Godwin and didn't have AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith, and was also before the Eagles defense got going in Fangio's system. That may as well have been a preseason game.

Lions are the top dogs right now, but I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if they get knocked out. They blowout lower level teams (like they should) and win close games against good teams. 5 one score wins. I get it, a win is a win, but they aren’t as dominant as people suggest.

Tomorrow’s game is going to tell us a lot about the Eagles and about the Ravens. If the Eagles can win in Baltimore then they remain right behind Detroit in the #2 spot. If they win decisively then I think you can start to have the convo that they are #1. Lose and they probably fall into the 3-5 zone.

Tampa feels like a team that could make some noise in the playoffs that most are not talking about. I wish Godwin was playing

As of now, Eagles /Bills 1a and 1b. I would put Detroit right up there with them but they have too many injuries on D. KC is not the best team by any means but they could make a run because they’ve got the most clutch QB on the planet. The rest of the teams don’t have much of a shot IMO.

I posted this in the Post Week 9 thread:

Total homer viewpoint here but the Eagles are a Saquon dropped dump pass (a pass that he catches 99/100 times) from being 7-1. That 1 came with missing AJ Brown, Davonte Smith and Lane Johnson.

They’ve been slowly putting together better games. Seems like their soft practice schedule in TC might have slowed their adapting to two new coordinators, but they appear to be getting it now.

Defense hasn’t given up more than 17 points since week 4.

Hurts quietly has cleaned up the turnovers-hasn’t had one since the TB debacle in week 4. The eagles, when AJ Brown is on the field and Hurts doesn’t have a turnover basically never lose.

After an anemic stretch of scoring 21, 12, 16 points before the bye they are averaging over 28 ppg over the last 4 weeks.

Back to back short-week NFCE games in Dallas and against Washington. If they can win these next two they have to be in the convo.

Since that time they are 4-0 giving up an average of 15.75 ppg and scoring 30.25 ppg. They crushed Dallas and Washington, beat LA in LA and just handled Baltimore in Baltimore, giving up only 80 yards rushing to Henry and 12 points plus a garbage timer. There's a real scenario where they run the table facing Carolina, Pittsburgh and the rest of the NFCE for the remaining five games. Everything feels to be heading for a collision course with Detroit. Exciting times.

This is true, but to be fair that Philly team was missing AJ Brown and Davonta Smith on offense and the defense was missing Cooper Dejean. Just a different team.

I'd say Hurts is the one QB Bowles has figured out pretty well.

I don't like their chances much at Philly in January. Playing in a dome is much more appealing.

I wouldn't have liked their chances against them last year either after week 13, but then they beat the crap out of them. Things can change the next few weeks.

Eagles last year couldn't beat the Giants at the end. They were broken.

I do not know. Hope we get to see it though. 👍

The Eagles collapse last year was hard to figure out. Does any of that carry over if the team runs into any adversity this year?

You could attribute it to the Super Bowl loser’s jinx. Weird things happen look at S Frisco this year.

Philly fixed their main issue with a great draft to fix their secondary.

They look like the team to beat in the NFC with Detroit’s injury concerns on defense. Lions are likely to struggle the remainder of the season with their injuries and schedule. They came perilously close to losing to the Bears.
But the Lions teams under Campbell are not quitters.

Truer words have never been spoken. Bowles simply owns Hurts. I still think that if they had a full offense that game would have been different.

For sure. That one spiraled quickly, and once they were down they felt the ridiculous heat. Pretty impressive that they haven't lost since.

Anyway, hoping you get another shot at us.

I think it goes the other way. They went through hell behind the scenes last year. That collapse was epically brutal. This year started out very, very shaky with a .500 start going into their early bye week. Since then they've morphed into the best team in the league. I think getting through that disaster last year has galvanized this group to be able to hit adversity and charge right through it.

I know how that story ends. Ask Ronde Barber about that narrative.

I’d actually love to beat the pants off TBB in the playoffs, just for redemption and for Jalen to shake the monkey off his back.

:ptts:

That's Ronde pointing at the back of his jersey as he's dodging batteries heading into the end zone for a game clinching pick six in the NFCCG.
My therapist says it’s good for me to be exposed to taunts like this.

Seriously, that game still pisses me off more than any other in Eagles history.

Could work out that way from the outside looking in you don’t know what happened. From what I recall Eagles players could not figure it out and Hurts seemed lost as they looked for leadership.

That team for the first 11 weeks was winning in spite of itself. The offensive coordinator was a joke, Sean Desai was a disaster as a DC only to be replaced by an even bigger disaster in Matt Patricia. They had to learn a new language on defense on the fly and you had pencil boy drawing up plays in the dirt and dropping your best edge rusher into coverage multiple times per game. They were lost. Again, I use that as a testament to how ****ing awesome of a coach Nick is. Most coaches, if they weren't zipped, would not be able to get their team to completely buy into the message the next year and do what he/they are doing this season.
