That's not valid? The Packers had more needs than a RB, yet saw it as a need.I have yet you post anything of substance.
What great needs did they have? They have Jackson who is a free agent.Grant coming off of injury and almost 30 and on the last year of his contract.RB was a need coming into this draft when thinking into the future. Nearly everyone agreed with that.
RB is a need. The point is that if James Starks was starting material, why would they draft a RB in the 3rd round that doesn't offer a different skill set?Other needs:5 technique DE- I feel that Mike Neal was a reach and they don't have great talent at the position as Ryan Pickett only plays 15-20 snaps a game as he is getting old.CB- Sam Shields played out of his rear and i'm not sure they should expect that production to continue. Also Woodson is old and a 3rd CB either way is a need, as seen in the Super Bowl when he went down.OLB- Mathews has the one side....but they need more pressure opposite him.
Again, they they draft an RB is because they only have Starks on the Roster locked up past this season. Jackson is likely gone, Grant has one year left and is hitting that magic age.DE...glad you feel Neal was a reach, prior to his injury he was coming on strong and playing well. They can also still go after keeping Cullen Jenkins.CB...it will happen eventually, that you consider Shields just played out of his rear is hilarious. I think I will trust their DB coaches who are pretty darn good at what they do over the biased Bears fan who is not an NFL talent scout. Woodson is getting older for sure. But they have several CBs on the roster they have been working with. I would have liked to have seen another brought in...but don't see it as any more pressing a need than RB was.OLB...Zombo, Walden...I think they feel ok there for now with what they have and the other picks they were adding. And in the 3rd there was nobody that just jumped out. They are a BPA drafting team and with their youth and depth, they can afford to do so still.

So what you are saying is you think that article, or the writer of it knows what he is talking about?

5. Running Back—With Ryan Grant coming off of injury, he may be too pricey for the Packers to keep around this season. James Starks played incredible in the postseason but has not proven he can handle the rigor of a full NFL schedule. The Packers could look to add a running back to their stable in the early to middle rounds of the draft.

Posting the wikipedia of football talk as a source now?I think those needs were about equal to a point where the team could afford to keep going with their BPA strategy.

POW!!!

Hate to bust up the fascinating back and forth over Starks, but what we haven't examined yet is what team will be inserting itself into the top ten. Are there reasons to think that the nine teams that have stayed consistently in the top ten over the past three years(saints, packers, patriots, giants, eagles, colts, texans, cowboys and chargers) might not show this year?

My top candidates are the Cowboys and the Giants for dropping out. My top candidates to bust in are the Steelers (full season with Ben), the Rams (maturation of Bradford, wideouts), and I can't come up with the third. Not anyone from NFC central or West, and I don't see any AFC teams that would be capable of breaking out. Probably the Cowboys stay due to a falling tide of offense throughout the league.

I think Atlanta is a team that most will expect to perform higher on offense than they normally would. I am not a believe in Matty Ice and think his inconsistent play will hold them back. 250 1-1 is not enough for top ten.
