Who has better stats this season? R Grant Or J Charles

PPR or non ppr

Is R Grant the every down back this year in GB? or will a healthy bjackson steal carries? I noticed that Grant was pulled in the preseason (before the 4th and meaningless game) for jackson when the starters were still playing. Jackson looked pretty decent and healthy.

T Jones doesn't seem like he'll impact Charles too much. Doesn't seem to have much left. Haley and his head games with Charles do bother me though.

Thoughts?

They both have their risks but there's no denying the scoring opportunities Grant will get in that offense.

I rather have JCharles without a doubt. Jamaal Charles is just a far superior talent to Ryan Grant.

I see Grant as one of the safer RB selections in fantasy football.

As for Charles, I think his upside is probably a little higher than Grant's, but his downside is lower as well. IMO, T Jones will have a definite role for KC, but Charles will be the better producer in KC (by a good margin).

In non ppr, I'd rather go with Grant... if it's PPR, then it's close to a toss up. If I am happy with my RB1, I might gamble on Charles' upside... if one of Charles or Grant is my RB1, I'm taking Grant since I see him as less risky.

Look at it like this. Grant put up nearly identical yardage the last two years: 1200/115 in '08 and 1250/200 in '09.

The guy is the new Rudi Johnson in terms of consistency. He should be a lock for 1300-1500 yards.

Now look at his TD's: 4 rushing/1 receiving in '08, 11 rushing/0 rec in '09. That is an increase of more than 200% in TD's. The opportunities to score that this team gives him will ensure that his TD's should again be double digit. So say he does his thing and gets 1500 total yards. Take another look at his TD number last year. 11 TD's. no reason to think that he'll get much less or more than that. Except that he had a major TD vulture last year in Aaron Rodgers, who totaled 5 rushing TDs. I think its possible that they will want Rodgers to stay upright all year and not risk him running it in from the 3 as much this year. That means an uptick in TDs for Grant. Even if you only give him 2 more TDs you are looking at an end of year stat line of

1,250 rush/30 rec's for 200/14 TD's. In my league that would be 244 FF points, or RB #06 behind Gore, Rice, ADP, MJD and CJ. And that is hardly an uptick from last year.

Jamaal Charles is lightning in a bottle. I believe that with T Jones in there stealing (IMO a good percentage of) carries and possibly McCluster doing so to aq much lesser degree, combined with the fact that KC's offense ain't scaring anyone like Green Bay's is, Charles will not live up to the hype and will not sniff the numbers I just laid out for Grant. With my early picks I want the guy I can plug in and not worry about. That used to be Rudi, now its Grant.

That reasoning won't get you very far in fantasy football.
exactly. Talent is one part of a much larger puzzle. To overlook competition for touches/offensive strategy/red zone opportunity etc, is doing yourself an injustice.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you are.If my RB1 = CJ, ADP, MJD, Rice, Gore or Turner... I'll take a flyer on CharlesIf my RB1 = Someone Else... I'd rather have Grant

I play in solely in dynasty leagues, so perhaps that clouds my judgement. In dynasty leagues I prefer the more talented player 9 times out of 10 at least. Though I think people who play primarily in redraft leagues would be better off by increasing their attention to player talent rather than spending so much of their attention on situation. You read posts for why people think a player will put up good fantasy stats and they make absolutely no mention about the player's actual ability, all they talk about is the player's situation; that's setting yourself up for failure imo.

If you are playing to win, you take Charles.

Grant is what he is...he will help you get to the playoffs probably. Jamal, however, is a rare talent playing on a team that has a pretty weak schedule this year. Roll the dice.
