Bettis = Hall Of Famer? (1 Viewer)

Was Bettis ever even the 5th best RB amy year he played?
He was 1st team All Pro twice and 2nd team All Pro once.

So, yes.
What do you think of Tiki Barber's chances of getting in? I think he has 3 1st team All Pro's on his resume (2002, 2004 and 2005)
Tiki Barber has 3 Pro Bowls, only one first-team All-Pro. His last three years were pretty impressive but that's not enough.

AP All Pro is an award that grants recipients some measure of clout and respect.

PFWA All Pro is that other kind of award.

tiki went over 1984 yards from scrimmage 4 times. thats super impressive. he had 3 other solid years too. he was easily a better rb than bettis and clearly one of the best of his era.

he wont get in bc he got caught diddling some other broad than his wife, but he deserves it more than bettis and plenty of other rbs.

55 rushing TDs, 12 receiving. #55 on the career list for rushing TDs, #100 for combined TDs. Not enough of a difference-maker. His not getting in has nothing to do with off-field stuff.

At last check, Bettis is still a go for the NFL Hall of Fame. Those who inducted him have not been influenced by piddling dissent in a footballguys.com forum. Groundhog saw his shadow. Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead. And, by sketchy but encouraging accounts, the mom of Trent Richardson lives on.

Further, Pete Carroll should have taken his cue from Mike Holmgren, a Seattle coaching predecessor, and blamed the refs for Sunday's SB loss to NE as a way of diverting attention away from a bad play-call. Holmgren must have been miffed about Bettis going into Canton. Had to have been some homer zebras in the tallying process. Has he been posting here? Mike, are you one of the posting dissenters on Bettis' credentials? If so, what moniker are you using? And, would you have run Shaun Alexander on second down at the 1 yard-line instead of trying to thread the needle with a throw?

Marcus Allen is a bona fide hall of famer. not a doubt in my mind. SB MVP counts for a lot, as does rookie of the year, MVP, and 2x comeback player of the year.

When you go to a players page on pro-football-reference, and you scroll down to the "Appearances on Leader Boards, Awards, and Honors" section, and you see the top left hand side box full of entries, that means that players carer was meaningful. That box being full is what I want to see when I cansider HoF worthiness. some entries are better than others - I'd rank them like this:

all-decade team (1st team better than 2nd team)

MVP

offensive/defensive player of the year

SB MVP

rookie of the year

comeback player of the year

Walter Payton Man of the Year

Bettis - he has a few entries there - rookie of the year, comeback player of the year, and Walter Payton Man of the Year. That's pretty good, far better than Steven Jackson. Still, it pales (in quantity and quality) to Marcus Allen.
I've never seen a good guy treated the way Davis did Allen.

Someone older than I can relay the story better, but this is very significant and not something you can see at a stat site.
