Betts (1 Viewer)

With the addition of Duckett, is Betts worth a roster spot? I'm considering droping him and grabbing lundy. Thoughts?

In a deep league, yes.

He's the 3rd down back now. Assuming Portis and Duckett remain fully healthy throughout the year, I'd pick him for 50 carries but for 30+ receptions. If one of those guys goes down, he could get a lot more action.

I'd liken him at this point to Shawn Bryson in Detroit who gets work in the same sort of role but who seems best able to step in if KJ goes down to injury as the starter.

Betts will still be the main guy until Portis is back and then will still be the backup. Duckett will do nothing but spell whoever is starting. I think Betts is still worth a roster spot.

Why would you automatically assume Betts is the 3rd down back now? Because Duckett is there? Please, Duckett will be the 3rd down back, if anything. Betts will still be the main guy until Portis is back and then will still be the backup. Duckett will do nothing but spell whoever is starting.
Probably because Duckett has never caught more than 11 passes in a season (and only double digits once) and Betts, as I've said in the Portis threads, is the best receiving RB on that team. FYI - I don't equate 3rd down with "short yardage"; Betts will fill the former role on passing downs, Duckett the latter in short yardage rushing situations.

I got that Redman. That's why I edited my post. Didn't like how it came out.

 No problem. I try not to post opinions without having thought them through and forming some sort of basis for them, so I don't mind explaing why I've formed an opinion on something . . . not to say my opinions are always right. ;)

I have Portis, Duckett, and Betts on my roster in a Dynasty league. I have one roster spot for either Betts or Duckett. Sounds like Betts is the player to keep?

I'd keep Duckett. I think he'd get the bulk of the carries if Portis were to go down. Also, Duckett has a better chance than Betts of being a starter in 2007 because Duckett is a FA after this season.ETA: But your question is more of an Asst. Coach question.

So is Betts.

Forgot about that. Even so, I think Duckett has a better shot of landing a starting role out of FA than Betts.

Sorry, I tried the Asst. Coach forum and only received one reply.
